I wish Mozilla had been really clear about their intentions and end goals with this acquisition. On the face of it, it looks terrible. Especially when you look at their jettisoning of Servo.

What the hell are they up to if making a browser engine isn’t a core competency, but buying an ad company is considered a wise move?

AnomalousBit ,

Well that’s cool if they want to become an ad company, but last I checked they are known for making a browser. I’m sure they’ll do so much better than Oracle in the ad business. /s

Microsoft Edge nags users with a 3D banner to change Windows 11's default browser (www.windowslatest.com)

Would you use Edge as your default browser on Windows 11 if Microsoft nags you with a 3D banner? Microsoft thinks you would. In a new experiment, which appears to be rolling out to Edge stable on Windows 11, Microsoft has turned on a banner that uses 3D graphics to promote the browser....

AnomalousBit ,

We got click-baited into reading about Microsoft doing shady shit with their browser default settings (again, no less!), but that part wasn’t even mentioned in the article.

AnomalousBit ,

Microsoft has more holes than my dad’s underwear lately

AnomalousBit ,

The dude gets new underwear every Christmas, you try to get him to stop rolling around in the briar patch

Debian Linux installation ISO is only 336 MB, FFS. And that’s a whole operating system with user land!

AnomalousBit ,

Um, no? The 336 megabyte usb installation media contains everything you need to install base Debian. Most people will want a desktop environment and other packages, they can connect to the network to download those additional packages.

Even the how-to says the network is optional.

AnomalousBit ,

Yeah, we know, we see their shitty politically charged propaganda every day

AnomalousBit ,

You guys aren’t shooting confetti every time you ejaculate? Dang that must suck

AnomalousBit ,

It’s time to unionize when the shitheads at the top keep firing everyone after they complete a blockbuster game or a merger/acquisition for the sole purpose of padding their bank account.

AnomalousBit ,

Dude always looks like they poisoned him 10 years ago and give him the antidote everyday as long as he shows up to play Command and Conquer: Red Alert. (Hint: he’s always getting his ass kicked)

AnomalousBit ,

Dude looks like he could double tap your nuts clean off before he’s even had his morning coffee

AnomalousBit ,

Jeez people, next you’re going to tell me the whole Jesus story is just a fucking rehash of other stories that already existed

AnomalousBit ,

I’ve seen enough 80s action movies to know, if they piss him off, he’s gonna wipe out their whole flotilla.

AnomalousBit ,

That one poster who’s been raging against Linux all week is going to be so pissed. Love to see it.

AnomalousBit ,

I wouldn’t normally make fun of someone’s looks, but this guy is a boat anchor on humanity. There’s enough cheek there for three orangutans

www.animalspot.net/…/The-Bornean-Orangutan.jpg

AnomalousBit ,

I said not normally, meaning yes I do (and just did), but in this case I do not feel bad because Sam Altman plainly sucks ass and deserves to cry for his numerous blights on humanity.

What is the point you’re making?

AnomalousBit ,

Is that you, Sam?

AnomalousBit ,

Found the escaped AI entity guys! It’s right here!

What republican rubbed his two incest loving neurons together this morning and shat out this terrible “meme”

Elon Musk smears Haitian migrants with 'cannibal' claims amid crisis (www.nbcnews.com)

As Haiti faces an extreme political and societal crisis amid a wave of intense violence, tech billionaire Elon Musk and right-wing pundits online are weaponizing unverified claims of cannibalism coming out of the conflict to advance a political agenda on immigration....

AnomalousBit ,

Imagine having the ability to reshape the world, to impact thousands upon thousands of lives for the better, to make the Earth a better place than it was before you, to leave a lasting history that people will say your name a hundred years from now and feel inspired that they might be able to do something in a small way that you accomplished across all of humanity. But instead you actively choose to steer your life in the complete opposite direction and be a literal sack of shit named Elon.

AnomalousBit ,

Or it might just fling your mom down to the nearest gas station, that’s a lot of mass.

AnomalousBit ,

Could have been born in 1890-91, I’m sure those people had it great

AnomalousBit ,

The real dummy is the creator of this lame ass “meme” implying that you can bomb your way to victory

AnomalousBit ,

Man these troll farm grunts are so insightful

AnomalousBit ,

But Android is open source! Oh, until you actually do any fucking thing with it. Be gone, Google.

AnomalousBit ,

Well, I guess it’s more entertaining than “slammed” or “blasted”. I’ll keep it.

AnomalousBit ,

I also would have accepted “Macron gives Russia a Cleveland Steamer”

AnomalousBit , (edited )

Maybe we need support for basic shit like file browsing and PDF viewing packaged with the OS? They still manage to make the OS require over 7 gigabytes of disk space, but can’t manage to squeeze this in?

AnomalousBit ,

I’m sure there are other examples, but Android is definitely the first instance I encountered of big corps trying to use “open source” as a benefit only to poison pill their offering into a nearly useless corner. One of the many examples of Google torching their positive reputation over the years.

AnomalousBit ,

I believe you are thinking in terms of a Turing-machine-like computer. I don’t think it’s possible today to “suspend” the bits in a quantum computer. I also don’t think it’s possible to know if the simulation could be paused (or even “added to” without losing its initial state).

Inspiron One 2305 has corrupted graphics after coming out of suspend (lemmy.world)

This Inspiron One 2305 has corrupted graphics after coming out of suspend, this has happened with Gnome (Wayland), i3, less commonly Swaywm, almost everything I have suspended it with, and makes the computer unusable outside of a TTY. I am considering trying KDE next. What can be the issue here? I am currently using EndeavorOS.

AnomalousBit ,

I’ve had better luck after enabling the systemd nvidia-suspend.service (only for Nvidia cards, obviously).

Because AI and Crypto use so much electricity, what if a law was made that they had to power it with green energy?

Something on the lines of if your company facility is using over X amount of energy the majority of that has to be from a green source such as solar power. What would happen and is this feasible or am I totally thinking about this wrong...

AnomalousBit ,

First, you need to separate power hungry crypto from AI, one provides a real benefit while the other is a useless fiat that can be accomplished without dumping gigawatts down the drain. If you want to trade crypto that’s fine, just don’t use a vulgar amount of society’s power to do it.

AnomalousBit ,

Well, when you’ve spent the past 20 years stealing intellectual property and conducting industrial espionage is it really that hard to get to this point?

AnomalousBit ,

China is the second largest economy in the world, nobody is whining about Ethiopia borrowing ideas to feed people.

AnomalousBit ,

Well then by your logic, why are they still doing it today, now more than ever, if it’s just a way out of poverty? Hmm 🤔

AnomalousBit ,

No, I’m afraid not. In America there are laws against stealing shit, look at what happened to the Apple Watch over the past few weeks. Or the billions Adobe paid to look at Figma’s IP.

I hope you spend decades creating something new and exciting only to have someone else come along and steal it. I’m sure you’ll shrug it off 🤷 and say they were just competing (since now you’ve said it’s not poverty driven).

What’s the next goalpost you’re going to move?

AnomalousBit ,

I love it when the apologists’ friends show up, when you guys can’t argue the high ground any more you just take aim at everyone else

AnomalousBit ,

U.S. companies don’t steal

You made this dumb claim, not me.

And the point was there are steep consequences to stealing. Unlike China parading around like they’re some kind of divine power when they just steal shit all day long.
