She Made an Offer on a Condo. Then the Seller Learned She Was Black. (www.nytimes.com)

Two federal laws — the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and the much older Civil Rights Act of 1866 — make it illegal for both home sellers and their real estate agents to discriminate during a home sale. But more than 50 years after redlining was outlawed, racial discrimination remains an issue, housing advocates say. A multiyear...

Cracker, chip, crisp, what’s the difference?

AngryCommieKender ,

Except that they have studies that prove that they make more money when they increase wages. Tons of em since the '70s have shown that putting more money in the hands of the poor just means that the rich get to skim off even more money. They oppose thriving wages because they want suffering.

It absolutely can be in food deserts, and the food deserts are growing.

Not for citizens in 20 states, and 2 territories. The cities may have something, but since those places are all regressive overall, I doubt it.

40/60, but you better be so white that even Casper the friendly ghost calls you a cracker, and you have sworn eternal entity enmity towards the sun

While I personallywould prefer a constitutional amendment that overrides the 2nd, I’m not giving up my guns until the cops are no longer armed criminals, and you’re never getting my crossbows.

Qualified Immunity is illegal according to the law that Congress passed in 1871.

They know in their hearts that they are Loyalists. Call them the red coats that they are.

AngryCommieKender ,

I wrote that twice. Autocorrect has foiled me again.

AngryCommieKender ,

Sure, but the constitution is capable of being amended, and is long overdue for some amendments.

Whenever l have run into snooty Quebequois that insist that I speak French, I channel Peggy and say “Jay parlay fran-says tray bee-en. Jay-tude on lay-cole quart ons.”

That does the trick and they will beg me to speak English.

“Hey Cotton, meet Kahn, he’s Japanese.

NO HE AIN’T! He’s Laotian, ain’t you Mr. Kahn.”

Possibly the best interaction with Kahn in the show. Definitely Cotton’s best lines.

AngryCommieKender ,

He’s clearly in some sort of quantum flux. They keep waffling if he is real or just Big Bird’s imaginary friend.

Order is Chaos

Sounds like Heresy to me.

ALRIGHT FIRE!

New Louisiana law will criminalize approaching police under certain circumstances (apnews.com)

Critics of a new Louisiana law, which makes it a crime to approach within 25 feet (7.6 meters) of a police officer under certain circumstances, fear that the measure could hinder the public’s ability to film officers — a tool that has increasingly been used to hold police accountable....

You could inform them that California has the good winter weather as well. Heck if a few more of them go to Arizona, we might permanently flip that state blue.

Can I refuse MS Authenticator?

So my company decided to migrate office suite and email etc to Microsoft365. Whatever. But for 2FA login they decided to disable the option to choose “any authenticator” and force Microsoft Authenticator on the (private) phones of both employees and volunteers. Is there any valid reason why they would do this, like it’s...

AngryCommieKender ,

All extremely good reasons to need the MFA.

Howerver it is on the company to provide the hardware. My phone is my phone. They didn’t buy it, they don’t pay for it, they don’t get any say in what gets installed. I don’t have to pay for my company provided computer either, so I don’t care what they need me to install on that.

Isn’t that just IT?

If you do it during puberty, there aren’t even much in the way of risks. I went from 4’1" tall and 230 lbs, to 5’6" tall and 145 lbs in one year by joining the swim team. Never got jacked, but I can still bench 200 lbs without any real effort or training in my 40s.

Yeah, my growth spurt was painful.

US courts are absolutely sexist. They are so damn sexist that the sexual disparity in sentences completely nullifies the racist disparity. I’m not joking either. It is well known that all things being equal, a black woman will get an average of 60% of the sentence a white man will get for the same crime. Meanwhile a white woman will get, on average, a sentence that is roughly 60-70% of what the black woman gets, and the white man may get a mere 50% of the punishment a black man gets.

Court is both racist and sexist, and in the US they won’t allow you to sue them. The sexism and racism only gets more pronounced in civil court and family court.

You can have a free “flamethrower” cigarette lighter. The company is bankrupt, and musk has a warehouse if the things he didn’t sell.

I can smell roaches and bedbugs. One is annoying. The second will cause me to flee a building in horror.

I’ve also informed several friends that they were pregnant. They never believe me the first time.

AngryCommieKender ,

Bedbugs smell worse than roaches. Roaches will make me leave a place. Bedbugs make me run in terror.

Out here in Cali, a pack is $10. I just bought pounds of pipe tobacco and tubes, and rolled them. That would run me about $35-$40 a month.

Apple consistently has better hardware if you’re willing to nuke iOS, and slap on an actual version of Linux, or hell, even Windows runs better on Apple hardware in my experience.

It’s just getting it on there that’s more than a bit dodgy

Tbf, those cities might have been founded long enough ago that they were mediteranian climates upon founding. Phoenix and Palm Springs weren’t.

We currently don’t import oil, or at least we export more than we import, but I agree that we should stop utilizing it unless absolutely necessary.

In our post-AI era, is job security strictly mythical? Or How to believe in careers as a concept worth doing?

With the lastest news of AI layoffs, I’m struggling to understand how the idea of a career still holds. If careers themselves effectively become gambles like lottery tickets, how do we maintain drive and hopes in the longterm endgame of our struggles?...
