Commando (released as Senjō no Ōkami in Japan, Wolf of the Battlefield) is a 1985 Capcom arcade shooter. Word to the wise: Commando isn’t based on the Schwarzenegger movie of the same name - that’s some false knowledge I’ve carried round with me for close to forty years… oh, how I’ve embarrassed myself at dinner...
That's odd in a purely programming way of thinking I'd have assumed it'd be easier to port from 6502 to Z80 since Z80 has a lot of instructions that have no direct equivalent and more registers. So porting from 6502 in a lazy way would in theory be easier (while netting a terrible result most likely) than the other way.
I cut my teeth on assembly programming on a Spectrum +3. I always thought the Z80s registers and extra instructions made things so much easier.
I went through an existential crisis in my 20s because I was ‘told’ I needed to be religious but never was. I read a lot of theological and philosophical texts and came to a conclusion similar to yours, if there’s a ‘God’, then they’re cruel. I oddly get Pantheism more than Monotheism, because at least it justifies that there’s ‘good’ and ‘bad’ deities but a lot of them are based on interpretations of phenomena that can now be explained by science.
I took much more to philosophy. I know what I believe is right and wrong morally, and science explains (almost) everything. If there’s a ‘God’-like figure, they can suck my nut sack because I believe they are at best indifferent, at worst, evil.
automatic vs manual transmission is an odd debate to have. Why argue only about the transmission? Why not have cars with manual ignition? If you dislike machines making your life easier, stop driving all together.
Yeah you really can’t. I’m pretty desensitized from earlier internet with death and other shock gore content but had managed to avoid CSAM until today. It was a lot worse than I expected, felt my heart drop. Worse, my app autoplays gifs in thumbnail so it kept going while I was reporting it.
I’ve mostly forgotten and it wasn’t on my mind until I saw this thread (happened less than 24hr ago) but even the slightest reminder is oddly upsetting. Wish I’d thought of the Tetris thing.
Yes, how’d you guess? And yes, that is on purpose. I’m also quite aware that people who are parents think it’s odd or unusual to not want to do that. I’m not saying I think children are ‘bad’ or parents regret their choices (although realistically, some do) … just that personally I don’t get it, same as I don’t understand why some people would want to have 5 dogs. I’m over 40 and have known plenty of people who are parents and mostly, they seem to like it. I’ve had several girlfriends who wanted to have children and I was basically uh, no, you should do that with someone else. But also my life is pretty fucked up. Maybe if I had better health and had chosen a more stable career I’d feel differently.
Five family members, including three kids, were found dead in an Ohio home Thursday evening in what police are calling a “domestic dispute that turned deadly,” according to a news release....
Statistically speaking, the odds of that are far far lower than what might happen when you have a gun in the home. The cops are certainly more likely to mistake you for intruder if you’re holding a gun.
Yes, choose your risk carefully. But don’t base it on bravado and fear.
Let's also not forget that cars and boats and table saws, while they can certainly be dangerous, have intended purposes which are not harmful, and are actually beneficial.
The only purpose for a firearm is to put a destructive and deadly hole in the thing you point it at. Hunting, sure, is beneficial to the hunter. Handguns are not used for hunting. Absent the odd "defending yourself from a bear or moose with a large caliber handgun," handguns are for killing people. Essentially all handgun usage is harmful by definition.
One of the biggest studies to date tracked nearly 600,000 Californians and found that your odds of being killed by firearm are 8 in 100,000 and increase to 12 in 100,000 if you keep a gun in your house (source: theguardian.com/…/guns-handguns-safety-homicide-k…). That means that keeping a gun in your house increases your chances for dying to gunshot by 4 in 100,000 chances.
The average Californian dies from automobile accidents at a rate of 9.1 in 100,000. That’s more than double the death rate that keeping a gun in your house contributes. (Source: eastonlawoffices.com/…/odds-of-dying-in-a-car-cra…. )
So you can’t understand why people still keep guns? It’s because they don’t perceive it as a significant threat. And statistically, it isn’t. At least not as big a threat as many other common behaviors that are accepted as normal.
The takeaway is that if you are paranoid about dying from statistically small things, then ceasing doing a lot of other activities (like driving) is going to be statistically more impactful than not having a gun in your house.
Do you think a "soulslike" is defined by being dark and gritty? I find it odd that you think the inclusion of anything cute or hopeful/friendly would be only a negative. Maybe your preferences are for dark and gritty only, but I assure you that many people enjoy other styles. There's a charm to there being hope in a dying world, isn't there?
Besides, I'd say most people define "soulslike" by their gameplay, not aesthetics. Maybe the "git gud" fragile-masculinity crowd needs their unforgiving combat system paired with a dark, 'masculine' atmosphere to fulfill their power fantasy, but again, I assure you that many other types of people enjoy those games - especially Elden Ring, which has much broader appeal than the previous souls games.
I'll wager you're a toxic "git gud" type that hinges their identity on these types of games, and that's why the idea of your sacred icon being blemished by comparison to Soulframe upsets you so much. I really can't see why else anyone would be this angry over a game not being to their preferences. If people enjoy something different than you, let them. :)
I played most of Cat Quest 2 only to reach the difficulty cliff that is Lioner. For the most part the game was quite easy then bam! multi-phase boss that’s immune to one of the game’s two damage types. Multi-phase bosses and total immunity to damage types are bullshit. The quest that involves killing Lioner is a level 80 quest and I first tried it at level 92 and failed. I grinded up to level 97 but I haven’t had the… passion? to fight him again. I’m seriously considering using something like Cheat Engine to lock my health at max. And apparently there’s a second difficulty spike.
I played a couple of hours Borderlands GOTY Enhanced and I’m sure the XP gain has been changed. In the OG Borderlands I’d get to Nine Toes around level 5, maybe level 6 if I grind a little bit but in GOTY I was level 7 when fighting him with no grinding at all. The graphics don’t seem to have changed much although it’s been a while.
I tried playing Baldur’s Gate 3 but I just could not get into it. It’s kind of odd though because I was able to get much further into DOS2 (I got bored early in the third act). It didn’t help that my GPU fans were going full brrrr the entire time.
I played a little bit of Holocure after watching Kronii Ouro play it but what she played and what I played seemed to be completely different games gameplay-wise, reverse bullet hell isn’t really my jam.
I bought Dwarf Journey and Shakedown Hawaii for a trip I’m taking this week so hopefully they’re good.
This is some pretty trash reporting, which is odd considering that Eurogamer usually isn't this bad. But their source for this is a Twitter thread from Luckyy10P? The dude is widely known as the biggest clown in the Destiny community, and every piece of "news" he covers is greatly exaggerated drama that only like three players ever complained about, but he presents as some massive community-wide issue.
Nobody's buying and then cancelling their $100 preorders just to keep one of the most mid guns that Bungie has ever released. Tessellation is not that good of a gun. Maybe it will be good when the catalyst is released in The Final Shape (though you won't be able to even get the catalyst without owning the expansion), but right now pretty much every trusted Destiny community member is confirming that the gun serves little to no real purpose in the current sandbox.
If Eurogamer wants to cover nonsense from Luckyy, they should be inquiring about his child support payments.
The title is a bit over dramatic but, per the title, if you could contribute with one piece of knowledge to a book that every single individual should learn from in order to kickstart a civilization, what would be yours?...
Yo dawg, I actually agree with you that this is the problem. It’s why I responded to OP that it’s absurd to suggest that they have the skillset to meaningfully contribute to the topic. America’s founding fathers basically dedicated their lives to democracy. The wrote books on books on books and yet here we are.
I said this in a comment elsewhere, but democracy and human behavior are always going to be at odds. If someone could write a chapter in a book to help a new society properly understand and fight for democracy, it would be done by now.
I think OP is just arrogant to even respond that he/she is qualified to contribute such a thing. It’s some main character syndrome bullshit if I’ve ever seen it on here.
This site looks kinda weird. For one, it looks much more polished than any similar site I’ve seen so far. They have really good SEO as well, always popping up pretty high on Google. They have a massive selection of content....
IGG is very toxic website that has a history of adding various types of malware (both web and games), including cryptominers.
It's higher on that list, even though for some reason it only highlights the (barely coherent) silliness that it has DRM.
I'm not know the nosteam website, it's odd that they mention it on the list but it's not listed.
Ye definitely hit or miss, they’ve been excellent for me. I got the 970 EVO last year or the year before and it’s been rock solid, my RAM is also Samsung chips albeit B die so higher bin which probably explains why I’ve never had a single issue with them in 4 odd years.
The Philadelphia police wanted MOVE gone because they bucked the system and were at odds with the police over the ongoing murder of their people. That’s why they went to such lengths to eradicate them at their main row house. I remember reading about how it was essentially a shooting gallery for the police. As people tried to escape the building, police fired upon them.
It was an insanely careless plan borne out of hubris, hatred towards black liberation groups in a time of high racial tensions, and the police (again) thinking that they were above the law. I’m actually shocked there was even a lawsuit that stuck. That alone shows how fucked their whole plan was. Even the city and a federal judge couldn’t overlook this one.
He’s been raised to divinity almost. Even now, not a month goes by when some major outlet would write a story on what a genius he was, same goes for hackernews.
Odd that had he lived, you’d be seeing him on Joe Rogan or posting some antivax bs.
While Jitsi is open-source, most people use the platform they provide, meet.jit.si, for immediate conference calls. They have now introduced a “Know Your Customer” policy and require at least one of the attendees to log in with a Facebook, Github (Microsoft), or Google account....
I’d personally prefer they didn’t implement any KYC-style identity verification at all in the first place, but it’s not my service or project and I’m not a paying customer, so my preference is largely irrelevant to them. But that said, I didn’t intend the comment to be damning, or even a particularly harsh criticism, just thought it wad an odd choice.
If what you are saying is accurate, and there aren’t better options, I at least understand that choice a bit more. If they feel they need an identity provider for whatever reason, they should obviously choose the one they feel best fits that need. And as others have noted, different servers and instances can be spun up or utilized. Users can choose to utlize whichever fits their needs best, or none if none of them fit.
Your other point is well taken though that it may be a gap in the marketplace. Sounds to me like a need waiting to be filled. I recall reading about some decentralized blockchain solutions for this sometime back, but do not recall the specifics. I haven’t followed along because it didn’t seem relevant to my personal or business needs at the time.
If anyone else knows of alternative options that may be better or more privacy friendly, I’d certainly be interested to hear about them. And would chip in funding for any good FOSS projects that might seek to solve this problem.
Ranting, especially on work made by the community* is bad, i know but my frustration comes because it has not be like that. systemd is bloat, madness …...
At this point I don’t think it really matter who thinks which system is better. The technical aspects are irrelevant as long as they work in a manner that completes the tasks. I certainly find no difference in boot times between systems that were loaded up with older releases pre-systemD, and systems that were freshly installed with systemD as the only init. Oddly I DID find one hell of a difference on a raspberry pi when I installed raspbian with systemD and it took nearly a minute and a half to boot, then I converted it to sysV and it booted in 15 seconds. These days most of the boot times I pay attention to, however, are on bare-metal servers which are now taking five freaking minutes just to get up to grub, so the difference of a minute is OS boot time is now completely meaningless.
agree on scale, I’ve never managed to make a small batch of pizza dough taste right, but used to make restaurant batches 20 odd years ago no worries. I have no idea why it works that way

Lmao so his name is Mac, yes… and we call him Macaroni all the time 😂. What are the odds?
Last time I took mine to the vet there turned out to be someone else there who also had a cat named Macaroni! I didn’t realize it was such a common cat name.
I have hard wood floors so he’d speed up and then I’d see him stop and just ride the rest of the way out sliding on his paws and belly. I wish I could have caught him doing it but when he sees my phone he gets upset and meows at me lol

First, odds are only half the code is used, and in that half, 20% has bugs that the system design obscures. It’s that 20% that tends to take the lionshare of modernization effort.
It wasn’t a bug then, though it was there, but it is a bug now.
