UPDATE: NY Governor Kathy Hochul said on CNN last night that she is considering a ban on masks.
This is absolutely shameful! New York has suffered so much from COVID, and COVID is not over. We should be normalizing and depoliticizing masks, not banning them.
We have a winner, #bookhistory.

Congratulations to the James Beard Media Award winners — the best of the best in food writing and broadcasting. Here's a post from @Eater listing all the winners — a couple of whom have collaborated with @Flipboard in the past.
Congrats to Abi Balingit, author of "Mayumu," who won the James Beard Emerging Voice category and curated this delicious Storyboard for @Flipboard about Filipino desserts.
In 2020, @Flipboard worked with K.J. Kearney, creator of Black Food Fridays, who has just been announced as winner of the James Beard Award for Social Media Account. Here's his fantastic Storyboard on why we all need to talk about Black cuisine, which features stories about the significance of pound cake and Hennessy, the commodification of resistance, and books about Black food history.

Another oligarch wannabe ok with burning the planet down with inefficient, gas guzzling transportation choices like personal jets. Commercial jets suck almost as bad. Yachts of oligarchs also apply.

After a pause of many months, I found myself back in the thick of Jean-Luc Bannelec’s Les marais sanglants de Guèrande: Une enquête de commissaire Dupin. I have been going at French pretty hard on Duolingo during the past six months or so - and boy does that help! The book in original German is Bretonisches Gold, in English Fleur de Sel Murders, in Spanish Un crimen bretón. I’m halfway through, have no idea who is the murderer, and am learning a lot of new words. #AmReading#mystery#Bretagne
Two different psychs now told me I have "autistic traits" significant enough to have fucked my life.
I'm functional enough that I don't qualify for state help, and won't be able to afford private care for a while, so I have to DIY.
Could anyone recommend resources on how autistic adults can learn to deal with the condition, especially when it comes to socialization?
Thank you <3
@xarvh
You are welcome in the #ActuallyAutistic community here. We talk about all types of things, including our life experiences, which can be very validating.
Learned something fascinating from the Återskapat #podcast. Amica Sundström and Maria Neijman have activated a major #Medieval source material that nobody seems to have touched before. There is no mention of it in the bibliographical databases. The huge KLNM encyclopedia has a single sentence about it: "Seals were often protected by fabric or leather bags and, towards the end of the Middle Ages, by metal cases" (15:194).
The National Archives in Stockholm hold hundreds of these seal bags. They're made from Medieval fabric that has been kept indoors, in the dark, since they were made. They pretty much retain their original colours! It's a fabric sample archive! With calendar dates!
