I think it is helpful to read other cases of genocide denial if you want to help yourself figure out what to engage with and what not to engage with. The talking points are exactly the same. All genocides work the same. It was hard to engage with friends and extended family members saying these things during #TigrayGenocide and I sure am not going to entertain that from others now.
"No we're not talking about the population its just this group we're calling animals"
FCC to restore #NetNeutrality and also, hey, to protect our online activity from scrapping--be it for #ArtificialIntelligence training without our consent, or for even more nefarious purposes.
When the public comment period opens, for your own interest, comment--the vultures will, by the thousands, using bots/AI, so we need to show up and make sure our voices are heard, and our interests protected.
@herhandsmyhands@JiSe@romancelandia They fought real hard to put copyright above first sale and private property rights. they literally passed a law to eliminate 1st sale doctrine: the DMCA.
now that the situation they made is hampering them from committing theft (in their own words!) they suddenly have a change of heart. allegedly.
@RubyJones@herhandsmyhands@romancelandia Agreed. I just literally have no patience for these kinds of things. It really baffles me that a lot will even say it enhances productivity! I can’t remember the author now, but it was an erotica writer that did use LLMs and she was super proud of the fact. I haven’t read one of her books ever since because I simply don’t want to pay for generated content. How is This so difficult for others to comprehend?
Okay #retrogaming - I got Kodi set up on my #nvidia#shieldtv with the internet archive game launcher... and I just re-re-remembered that my beloved #steamcontroller won't work with it... I have no idea why I keep forgetting this.
I'm looking for 4 cheap bt controllers but the market is flooded... any #suggestions ?
Ha ha, to each their own, for me it was one of the worst controllers I’ve ever used, and using the SC reminded me a lot of it and I also never could get comfortable with the trackpads regardless of how much I tried to force myself to use it in different genres of games. I’m glad you enjoyed them though! Maybe look for a larger controller if there more comfortable to you while you’re on your hunt.
Federated wireguard network idea
Any feedback welcome.
Let's keep things stupidly simple and simply hash the domain name to get a unique IPv6 ULA prefix.
Then we would need a stupidly simple backend application to automatically fetch pubkeys and endpoints from DNS and make a request to add each others as peers.
Et voilà, you got a worldwide federated wireguard network resolving private ULA addresses. Sort of an internet on top of the internet .
The DNS entries with the public IPv4 / IPv6 addresses could even be delegated to other domains / endpoints which would act as reverse proxy (either routing or nesting tunnels) for further privacy.
Maybe my approach is too naïve and there are flaws I haven't considered, so don't be afraid to comment.
TOR lets journalists do their job safely from dangerous places, lets whistle-blowers report things we should know, and lets people in oppressive regimes see the rest of the Internet that their government blocks. It’s an amazing tool.
From what I've seen from Euphoria, the cinematography is really good, but between the gratuitous nudity, and S02 sucking, I don't want to watch it. Are there any shows that were shot in a similar way?
The neon aesthetic seems like a newer trend (a trend that I love) and I see it most on these HBO shows that tend to have nudity. It’s not new and it’s not neon, but Breaking Bad has some incredibly creative cinematography, especially in the later seasons.
Weird that the neon and the nudity tend to go together.
Do most HBO shows have nudity? I know that Game Of Thrones has its reputation but I didn't hear about The Last Of Us having any nudity, Succession had basically no nudity and I really enjoyed the HBO Film Bad Education, which also had no nudity.
I've generally thought that HBO's penchant for nudity is a bit overblown, but I could be wrong.
REALLY sick of hearing about how you have the experience to make value judgements about the experience of being diagnosed as a child.
I get that the diagnosis is a revelation.
And it is. I agree .
But i want to puke remembering how that "privilege" was used to justify telling kids "IF you manage to prove that you are able to emulate a person you can be awarded honorary adult status"
Otherwise you count as something between a child and an animal
Now im going to address the reason i made this thread
The phrase
"Aspie Supremacy"
First off
The concept of subtypes was CREATED to force "useful" autistic kids to compete for the privilege of being allowed to survive.
The fucked up messaging designed to make us desperate to prove we are NOT useless was built in on PURPOSE.
And that message ALSO is reinforced by ableist thinking in general.
Diagnosis or no, internalized ableism ISN'T avoidable
And here's the part which adult dx people are NOT going to like.
If there WAS a hierarchy within the autistic community based solely on being autistic.
The privileged category would be people who masked well enough to reach adulthood without being outed.
If You were diagnosed as being autistic without needing much support before autism was recognized as a SPECTRUM...
Most white people would have been labeled either high functioning or aspies
Magic Earth is an alternative to Waze and Google Maps with crowdsourced traffic and road hazard information
As part of a #BigTechDiet, I've been hoping to find an alternative to #Waze and #Google Maps - a navigation app that can tell me about slowdowns, hazards, and speed traps based on reports from other users. Today, I learned about Magic Earth.
It's proprietary, but not from FAANG or a company subject to the government of China, Russia, or Five Eyes countries. It collects minimal user data and has a good privacy policy. There are versions for both Android and iOS, and the Android version works without Google services.
I would say just buy TomTom Go, only 20 euros a year and no Google BS. Or if you really don’t want to pay use Amigo, it’s also from TomTom with the same life traffic etc.
I…don’t remember posting this. Sorry dude, drunk me decided he didn’t like your question. I had a lovely night too this was just me being a dick on the train for no reason.
@manisha@computingnature@academicchatter@academicsunite ah well this didn’t happen in a day. there was some example Matlab code that had been made available previously. glad it’s gotten a more formal grounding/distribution framework though now.
my first email address had a MULTICS and a MAILNET and an ARPA in it, and a couple of % signs sprinkled around for maximum confusion, and it took a number of years of hard work and mailer science to simplify that into a .edu address that you would recognize today.
Algorithm-based social media "recommendations" has normalized us putting up with blatant SPAM
Imagine if gmail or outlook were to place emails by 'creators and brands you might like' in your inbox!?
Following the process of enshittification, the algorithm on many social media platforms is becoming an excuse to push blatant amounts of SPAM to users. It starts as a feature that is genuinely useful, but becomes a tool to show you ads, content from paying users or to keep you hooked with rage-bait content as social media platforms seek to extract more value out of its users.
Algorithm-based social media has its benefits, but looking forward it is becoming increasingly necessary that such an algorithm runs client-side and is owned by the user.
God that made it so hard to use Twitter. I just wanted to follow people I know but it was so difficult to sift through all the other noise they kept adding. I thought I could do the third party app to help out with that, but Twitter basically dropped third party apps years ago.
I have a question to all of you who have subscribed to Lemmy groups from Fediverse projects that aren't Lemmy. Who follow Lemmy groups from e.g. #Mastodon, #GlitchSoc, #Pleroma, #Akkoma, #MissKey, what's still called #CalcKey, #FoundKey, #Mitra, #GoToSocial, #Socialhome, #Friendica etc., but also #kbin. And I sincerely hope that I'm not the only subscriber to this entire group who isn't on Lemmy.
My question is: If a Lemmy post contains an image or any other media, can you see it?
I'm on #Hubzilla. And when someone posts something with an image in it, I can see the post, but I can't see the image. When someone posts something with a video in it, I can't see the video either.
I can see images in comments with no problem. But I can't see them in posts.
How about you on Mastodon? Or on CalcKey? Or on /kbin? Or elsewhere?
I'm asking and hoping for replies because I need to find out if the issue is on Lemmy's or on Hubzilla's side so I can file a bug report.
I'm an alien in a human suit. I don't know how to human. So I copy. People I'm with. People from tv shows, movies, games, podcasts. Mostly the latter since my social contacts are not really... existing these days.
I was always the oddball, the one that was a bit weird. So I copied. To fit in. Now I'm 47, and I have no idea who I am. Wonder if I'll ever meet me. The real me. Would be nice.
@undefined_variable I refuse to give up on that tiny sliver of hope that I'm just an alien with amnesia, stranded on a fucked up planet, and will one day again be with my people. 🙈 At least it's good to know I'm not alone. 👽 👋
