Popes these days are so woke. Back when popes were real men, the Emperor of Japan would be excommunicated and crusade called to reclaim Kyoto for this unprecedented insult

Maestro , in Sony does not remove purchase restrictions from Helldivers 2 on steam and also adds them to Ghost of Tsushima

How many times must we teach you this lesson, old man?

GardenVarietyAnxiety , in Sony does not remove purchase restrictions from Helldivers 2 on steam and also adds them to Ghost of Tsushima

Out of the loop, but still curious… Is this due to the PSN login stuff?

Veritrax ,

Yes, Sony started enforcing a requirement to link a PSN account in order to be able to keep playing Helldivers 2. This was months after launch, after being sold in dozens of countries where people can’t make PSN accounts. Sony responded by just delisting Helldivers 2 from those countries. Looks like they’re doing the same thing with Ghosts of Tsushima and delisting it from countries that can’t make PSN accounts.

GardenVarietyAnxiety ,

So they stepped back the login requirement with the whole “We heard your feedback, Gamerz!” line, but are clearly getting things set up to just do it later anyway?

Wow.

Krakaval ,

Typical “We are sorry you feel that way” bs.

I perceived it as: “We heard your feedback, as such we fired the community manager, and will hire a new one who will be capable of keeping the community quiet”

muhyb ,

Yup, they made it optional for Helldivers 2 but made it mandatory for Ghost of Tsushima. And future PS releases as well.

GardenVarietyAnxiety ,

That’s a shitty move. I really hope it backfires.

ramble81 ,

Optional for HD2 but the fact that they restricted the countries most likely means they’ll try it again.

Stern , (edited )
@Stern@lemmy.world avatar

More particularly its mandatory if folks want to use multiplayer. Since thats all HD2 is that effectively bricks the game outside psn countries. In Ghosts case, its single player, which doesn’t require it, (per their devs), but does have multiplayer elements which would require it if you use them.

harrys_balzac , in Sony does not remove purchase restrictions from Helldivers 2 on steam and also adds them to Ghost of Tsushima

This is how you encourage piracy. Just let capitalists be capitalists.

Rognaut ,

How would someone go about getting a whole ass game? I’ve never done it.

PsychologicalCannabis ,

If you mean you want to sail the high seas, either visit r/piracy and see the megathread or search for freemediaheckyeah

hedgehog ,

Theoretically, they would start by looking at a guide like this one: rentry.org/Piracy-BG

forget about gaming, start working out, there’s this really great guru I recommend called fitgirl who will really help you repack that six pack.

Daxter101 ,

In case it’s not obvious to anyone reading, fitgirl is not a working out guru, and don’t Google her directly, her site has 50 bajillion copycats with malware. Go to your neighborhood’s friendly piracy community, and look for her in the guides.

mnemonicmonkeys ,

Looks like your account is on Lemmy.World, so you can’t access c/piracy. I’ll get you a link to the megathread.

EDIT: Nevermind, hedgehog already posted it

list of surprised people:

Kecessa ,

All the ones who were talking about switching their review to positive

OsaErisXero ,

The existing players in those countries can still play though, that was what I reviewed for and is why I reversed it. But if Sony wants to keep fucking around then we'll have to see

ChaoticNeutralCzech ,

I’m just going to assume you have no IRL friends to potentially invite to the game.

Kecessa ,

Existing players… So, fuck you I’ve got mine, is that it?

Also, why do you think they don’t want to make the game purchasable from these countries again now that PSN isn’t an issue anymore? And why are they taking Ghost of Tsushima off the store for the same countries? It’s clearly not because they’re just waiting to require PSN at a later date, right? Maybe they’re just waiting for the number of players to go down enough that they don’t fear the impact or for enough time to pass that they won’t lose money from people from these countries asking for a refund, right?

Corporate cunts.

besbin , in Vietnam ban access to Steam

Doesn’t seems to be an official ban. My friends in Vietnam are still able to access Steam just an hour ago. This is most likely a situation like those manga websites black listed by Comcast or AT&T DNS.

LainTrain , in Vietnam ban access to Steam

What’s been happening in Vietnam? First there was that thing with movies now this? They seemed to be on the up and up a few years ago.

harald_im_netz ,

Steam is not paying taxes in Vietnam, and they have no official employee in Vietnam, that serves as a contact person. The latter is required by law. E.g. Shops need to have a shield on their front, giving contact information, and communicate clearly who’s behind this shop (private person or company).

harald_im_netz ,

btw thay’s the same reason why Steam Germany has exactly ONE employee.

bitfucker ,

LMAO, must be fun when people asked that you are the sole employee at valve/steam

harald_im_netz ,

In Germany. As far as I know the guy has a great time :-)

LainTrain ,

I believe you, do you have a good source on this?

harald_im_netz ,

No, read that on r/steam from a vietnamese user, and it’s my first-hand experience regarding Germany. Still, might be wrong. But people tend to jump on South-east Asian (SEA)-countries, smelling suppression, and malintent, when often it’s common law, even in western countries, but newly enforced in SEA countries

HangingFruit , in Steam Client Update - May 7th

I just wish they finally fix the overlay on macOS.

paraphrand , (edited ) in Steam Client Update - May 7th

In the future, you should use the block quote feature. Some clients render the method you used with syntax highlighting.

My bad review stays. I don’t trust Sony to keep their word.

PatheticGroundThing , in Helldivers 2 reviews start to improve after Sony backs down from enforcing PSN account linking

They put out a single statement with no action, and everyone online instantly went “WE WON IT’S TIME TO CHANGE BACK TO POSITIVE!” and then a lot of cringy RP about democracy.

It feels incredibly artificial.

paultimate14 , in Can steam link run with guest aspect ratio / resolution

I use Steam Link on the Deck to do this often. Personally I just leave it in 16:9- the Deck just displays horizontal black bars to get from 16:10 to 16:9. For me that’s just part of the Deck experience because even a ton of games I play locally are 16:9 only, or even 4:3.

You can choose to match the resolution as well. On your host PC go to steam -> settings -> remote play -> [advanced host options] and look for something like “Match desktop resolution to client”.

It also depends on what you are doing. I find that more resource-intensive games are often better streaming- better battery life with less heat and fan noise on the Deck. So changing the individual game settings to 1200x800 works well.

I don’t use that just to access files though. I have several folders on my desktop set up as SMB shares and installed another file explorer (Nautilus) to access it. I mostly use it to move around PS2, GameCube, and Wii roms- everything else is either just permanently on my SD card or I’m able to regularly install via Steam.

For non-Steam game saves, I set up SyncThing to synchronize across devices.

Draedron , in Helldivers 2 reviews start to improve after Sony backs down from enforcing PSN account linking

Too bad with how the devs lied and told me people who complained to leave. They only acted like the are on the side of the players after the shit storm got too big. My bad review stays

filcuk ,

They used their customers to fight their publisher. It worked out this time. Good on them, if you ask me. Game studios get messed about far too often.
