Judge David Strong issued his ruling Thursday morning, a day after the defense asked for a mistrial because Brookhaven police Detective Vincent Fernando acknowledged under oath that he did not give the prosecution or defense a videotaped statement police had taken from Gibson.
…
The judge ended Wednesday’s court session early because Fernando acknowledged under oath that he had not previously given prosecutors or defense attorneys a videotaped statement. The jury was not in the courtroom when he disclosed this.
“The bottom line is, this file should have been turned over to the D.A.’s office prior to the indictment and by file, I mean the entire file, including a video recorded statement of the victim, which was also requested by the defense to the D.A.’s office,” Strong told Fernando on Wednesday. He added that Bates acknowledged the request had been made and said that he had been told it didn’t exist.
And possibly also some police obstruction of justice:
Moore [the complainant’s lawyer] said he would ask the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division to investigate the police department’s conduct in the case for potential obstruction of justice.
“We are hopeful that the Department of Justice’s involvement will help shed light on this serious matter and ensure that justice is served,” he said.
Moore has previously said he believes police were not thorough in the investigation and questioned why it took almost 10 months for Gregory and Brandon Case to be indicted.
I can’t figure out what outcome the cop was trying to achieve by withholding the video. The defense asked for it. The white guys. Maybe the cop is Black and wanted them to lose?
The storm’s remnants are likely to bring flooding rain as well as strong winds to some parts of California, including the Los Angeles Basin, the Weather Channel reports. Heavy rainfall is expected to impact the Southwestern U.S. starting Friday through early next week, “peaking on Sunday and Monday,” according to the hurricane center. Postel said the storm will likely cause large swells along the coast in the next several days.
“It is rare — indeed nearly unprecedented in the modern record — to have a tropical system like this move through Southern California,” Postel said.
Unlike many other sports, I honestly don’t see how chess is impacted by gender, nor why we’d have different leagues other than legacy historical strangeness. If I were king for a day, I’d just get rid of gendered leagues for chess. Everyone plays in an open league.
The site did change the headline. If you google the headline as it appears here, the archived original title from MSN comes up. Therefore, per your final sentence, there is no issue.
It is always good to have multiple people looking at published information, and talking together about how valid it is. In this case, the original title of the article misrepresented the Fulton County Sherriff's Department, and that was an important thing to point out. It was doubly important for other commenters to correct me, and show that OP was not the one who wrote that title.
I got it wrong, and people very rightfully corrected me, and I accepted that correction and edited my comment accordingly (while also being very clear about my own error). OP has since changed the title, and I have deleted my parent comment, as I said I would.
This is the healthy and necessary discourse that needs to happen. It is not pointless.
I’m sorry that happened… but that’s not why she said it. This girl accelerated full speed, without attempting to slow down at all, straight into a brick wall. Those teens probably weren’t trying to hit you, this girl very very very likely was trying to hit that wall and kill everyone in the car.
it isn’t. the main league and FIDE scoring have no such restrictions. the women’s scoring and events were created separately because chess is heavily dominated by men for whatever reason. i think trans women can compete in the main events which are not gender restricted, just as non-trans women are welcome to.
