werefreeatlast , in O.J. Simpson, former football star acquitted of murder, dies at 76.

Oh God! C’mon dude! It’s the other fat guy in a red hat! Do I have to use one of my remaining wishes again!!! Is that how prayers work now? But what if I think of a wish accidentally? Oh man, I was thinking about Boeing engine covers the other day and how flimsy they are. I didn’t mean that wish, can I get back the credit? Oh shit, I have to take back the Mindy wish too! Sorry Mindy! I’m sure they do make bras for 3 boobs in double D’s…right? Or can we take it back? Oh please take it back! Oh please God! Oh please St Peter, help me find my keys too…hey men!

MisterNeon , in ‘An epidemic of loneliness’: How the pandemic changed life for aging adults
@MisterNeon@lemmy.world avatar

7000 doesn’t sound like a large enough sample size to get accurate results.

Telodzrum ,

You’re just plain wrong. A sample of 7,000 against the whole US adult population only provides a margin of error of just over 1%. Hell, you need the representative sample to drop to 350 panel members to get the MOE up to 5%. If you’re going to post comments about experimental design, maybe understand basic statistics and statistical modeling before type something dumb.

otp ,

What would sound large enough to you?

MisterNeon ,
@MisterNeon@lemmy.world avatar

Tens of thousands.

otp ,

Why so many?

MisterNeon ,
@MisterNeon@lemmy.world avatar

The age of the American population 55+ is over 80,000,000 so 0.0000875% of that population seems small to be drawing conclusions from.

Mathprogrammer1 ,

That’s not how statistics works. If that were true, you could never test dice for fairness because there are theoretically an infinite number of rolls that could happen

MisterNeon ,
@MisterNeon@lemmy.world avatar

Well I don’t generate statistics normally and we’re not dealing with something as reliable as dice roles. I stated the sample size “sounds” small and got downvoted into a pit. I’m going to remain skeptical about this research.

@PP_BOY_@lemmy.world avatar

But leftist circlejerks keep telling me there is no inflation

Drinvictus ,

Imagine getting down voted for complaining about the inflation under an article about high inflation.

LibertyLizard ,

It’s because they don’t know the definition of the words they are using lol. Good use of downvotes I’d say.

It’s also just… obviously untrue. I haven’t heard anyone saying there is no inflation, that’s just nonsense.

uberdroog ,
@uberdroog@lemmy.world avatar

Probably more about blanket statements that are untrue and dishonest.

tsonfeir ,
@tsonfeir@lemm.ee avatar

Imagine thinking the “left” is ignoring inflation, when the “right” is the one creating it.

WhatsThePoint ,

This is the rights playbook. Do awful stuff, claim the other side is doing it, then flood media with fraudulent think tank studies and reports to muddy the waters.

Asafum ,

I’m not looking to defend the right, but I don’t think any political party is responsible for greed of businesses and individuals.

My dad was lucky enough to buy a house many decades ago in an area that now is very wealthy. He explained how everyone and their mother was selling their houses in his neighborhood at the absolute bat shit insane prices that people were somehow buying at (like 1+ million for a previously 400k house) and that these people didn’t even know where to go. They were all moving into local apartment complexs to the point that the rents there hit over 6k/month. That’s not to even mention all the corporate purchases of property that drive prices even higher…

It’s greed all around as usual… :(

Cruxifux ,

What? Leftists know there’s inflation.

Did you do the thing where you call democrats and liberals leftists again?

ABCDE ,

Fedizen , in Residents in wealthy California town block access to public hot springs with boulders

honestly why don’t they do a park and ride somewhere else and then just have a bus/shuttle service on high traffic days?

Thteven ,
@Thteven@lemmy.world avatar

It’s public land, fuck those people. They can sell their house and move if they don’t like it.

GreyEyedGhost ,

While I get what you’re saying, and fuck them for wanting to hoard public resources, a shuttle here would be less damaging to the area and allow ample parking where it isn’t impacting those public resources as much. And if done right, would even allow people without cars to enjoy this resource.

Thteven ,
@Thteven@lemmy.world avatar

Public shuttle? How about a bus route?

GreyEyedGhost ,

Sorry, where I live they call free public buses shuttles, usually for short routes with many stops such as downtown.

yumpsuit ,

maybe you can get the rich on board if you call it a jitney

Maggoty ,

That would be even worse to them than parking. They might see a homeless person!

Or, and this is wild I know. We can stop treating student athletes like professionals. We made this problem but schools were never supposed to be some kind of professional league with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line for schools.
