Good news for the used car market. Lots of new inventory about to become available.
Bad news for American car manufacturers, who are already struggling while they’re in limbo between ICE and EV and can’t commit to either, but certainly will help to correct used car prices.
Don’t expect this to be a major economic factor to track going forward - many of these borrowers were likely already pushing their budget to afford the vehicle. If they financed with a variable rate while interest rates were rock bottom and government subsidies were peaking then this is exactly what you’d expect from the Fed rasing the interest rate.
Sure, some of these are due to unemployment and other circumstances but the major factor that changed was the prime interest rate, which can directly impact loan payments at a scale that is more directly measurable than something like unemployment, which is indirectly caused by the interest rate hike.
Jon Ronson’s podcast miniseries on the culture wars talk about when abortion was adopted by the evangelical movement. It had a lot to do with some prominent pastors’ son regretting an abortion. I don’t remember the specifics, but that miniseries was great.
Something else to consider - from my experience the majority of christians don’t make it their entire identity. After all, do not pray for others to see, etc. etc.
People you know to just be regular peeps who are pro choice have a decent chance of being christian, just the shut up and love thy neighbor type, as opposed to the “LOOK AT ME, IM SO CHRISTIAN” type.
So there are two axis in which people can be overlooked and quiet - one for religious affiliation, one for their stance on abortion.
There are twice as many Protestants as there are Catholics in America.
And among Protestants, one survey found that “the only major religious groups in which a majority do not support abortion legality in all or most cases are white evangelical Protestants (27%), Latter-day Saints (30%), and Jehovah’s Witnesses (25%)”. And those groups are minorities in Protestantism. I’m sure the dataset can tell you how many Christians in general feel about abortion and you can do your own breakdown: prri.org/…/abortion-views-in-all-50-states-findin…
We already knew he was planning to remove democracy. I’m hoping that his call to vote will get all the liberal Christians to vote too, specifically to prevent him from eliminating democracy.
Oh Trump is as religious as a piece of wet paper. He’s just dog-whistling Christian conservatives into voting for him in the hope they can have their theocracy.
A theocracy isn’t literally ruled by a god but by people claiming to represent one (like the Vatican or Taliban Afghanistan).
Assuming dissenting opinions are all bots isn’t a good path forwards. Some people will disagree with you. Some with me. But on matters of opinion. Also who the hell would bother to bot this niche site/fediverse.
Wow. Best case, he’s admitting he won’t run for a third term and doesn’t care once his personal issues are solved. The worst case is openly delaying himself a traitor.
Man… the red scare really did a number on the American psyche…
This comment section better remember that you can’t even order from McDonalds anymore without creating an account online. Hell, as of a few weeks ago I can’t even update apps on my personally purchased smart TV without creating a fucking account and letting them link my email to data they already have from Experian (all US companies btw). Tiktok is just a fucking scapegoat so y’all wont push for actual privacy protection laws.
If Tiktok gets sold to a US company nothing will change about their practices the CCP will just buy the data from a 3rd party vendor owned by a US LLC.
Second time I read someone ran away from home and they got tracked by online interaction with their old life. This case it was a phone number on the account.
