son_named_bort , in A Texas official gets probation for accidentally shooting his grandson at a wedding

Did he mistake his grandson for a quail?

Flocklesscrow , in Dallas juvenile detention center isolated kids and falsified documents, state investigation says

So the DOJ will be sweeping in to arrest everyone involved and charge them with the maximum, right? Right?

roguetrick , in Elon Musk sets his sights on Taylor Swift: "I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life"

Fucking gross.

lemmus , in NHTSA Proposes New Vehicle Safety Standard to Better Protect Pedestrians
@lemmus@lemmy.world avatar

Goodbye, Cybertruck.

dan1101 , in Republicans dismayed by Trump’s ‘bad’ and ‘unprepared’ debate performance

That’s ok crazy orange grandfather, keep us informed about the people eating cats and dogs, and transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison.

Cornpop , in Elon Musk sets his sights on Taylor Swift: "I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life"

Super weird. Ultra gross.

some_guy , in Former Nashville Medical Examiner, Whose Testimony Helped Convict a Russell Maze in 2004 of Killing His Baby, Now Says He Was Wrong. Maze could still spend the rest of his life in prison.

But it offers a lifeline to a defendant whose chances of relief dramatically narrowed in May when a lower-court judge, after hearing two days of testimony from multiple experts who found no evidence that Alex had been shaken, nevertheless concluded, “The court does not find an injustice nor that the petitioner is actually innocent based on new scientific evidence.”

This fucked up country.

rustyfish , in Republicans dismayed by Trump’s ‘bad’ and ‘unprepared’ debate performance
@rustyfish@lemmy.world avatar

Second best?! Really? Now we think participation trophies are fine? Ok whatever.

As for the aftermath of the debate. I like it. I enjoy that orange fuck getting made fun of and the memes are superb. But as expected, he could have yanked his pickle out and jerked off live on TV and his cultists would still defend him. I am 100% sure that this would have been the case. And there still would be people who are undecided!

CuddlyCassowary ,

I think it’s more of a mushroom, but point taken.

notsure , in Republicans dismayed by Trump’s ‘bad’ and ‘unprepared’ debate performance

what is the term for "i will celebrate your death over your life", Thatcherism?

girlfreddy OP , in Speaker Johnson calls off a vote on a bill to avoid a partial government shutdown
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

I don’t understand why American has to go through this dumb-as-fuck pissing contest every year. For what? So whoever is in opposition can have a larger share of the pork barrel??

xmunk ,

It happens constantly because politicians can fight over it and bundle in otherwise unacceptable riders.

Also… they get a lot of talk show booking fees.

Chocrates ,

I feel like one party is always the one holding it hostage, and only when their president isn’t in charge.

xmunk ,

Oh yea - this is definitely a favorite tactic of the GOP.

Atom ,

That’s not fair! The longest shutdown in US history was under Trump when GOP had full control of the government. They’ll happily obstruct themselves too.

…wikipedia.org/…/2018–2019_United_States_federal_…

Buffalox ,

It’s quite simple, the 2 party system created by first past the post in USA sucks.
It’s both inefficient and undemocratic.
Countries like Denmark with 10+ parties generally pass national budgets with 80% majority.
There has never in my life time of 60+ years been a period of even a single day, where government didn’t work because the national budget wasn’t passed.

cannibalkitteh ,

I feel like if I neglected doing a critical function of my job for a year and then grudgingly half did it so that I can coast a few more months, my boss would probably fire me.

MrJukes ,
@MrJukes@lemmy.today avatar

What if your boss could only pick from one other person who was just about as bad at your job as you are, once every 2-4 years?

thejoker954 , in Seniors can expect lowest Social Security cost-of-living adjustment since 2021

It doesn’t matter if price growth is slowing when it’s already too high.

Seniors are still priced out even with a measly extra $50.

mean_bean279 ,

The people on social security at this point had decades to vote and make sure that the country was properly contributing to that social safety net. Instead they gutted it and allowed it to become hollow. Now they can suffer the consequences of their actions, or lack thereof.

thejoker954 ,

Except it doesnt affect just them.

Catoblepas ,

I wonder if there’s a word for punishing everyone in a group for actions taken by only some members of a group, and if it’s considered ethical?

teft , (edited )
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Not everyone on social security receives benefits due to old age. Some receive benefits due to being disabled adults or children.

Teppichbrand , in Elon Musk sets his sights on Taylor Swift: "I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life"

Stop being anti-fanboys and just ignore these two billionaires talking to eachother. He craves the attention and you just give it to him. Why?

mosiacmango ,

Swift didnt say shit to him. He’s just trying to ride her coattails by being a creepy fuck.

aesthelete , (edited )

I’d love nothing more than for these two people to be irrelevant, but unfortunately I live in a world where their money causes them to have large amounts of influence.

kokesh , in Republicans dismayed by Trump’s ‘bad’ and ‘unprepared’ debate performance
@kokesh@lemmy.world avatar

He can’t ever be prepared. He is stupid, narcissistic, impulsive and damn senile. Not the best combo.

drdiddlybadger , in Elon Musk sets his sights on Taylor Swift: "I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life"
@drdiddlybadger@pawb.social avatar

He speaks like this because there’s no consequences. His lawyers must be pissed cause anyone with a harassment case against him can just put that tweet up to help their case lmao.

ouRKaoS ,

An angry Travis Kelce is a consequence he may have overlooked.

mosiacmango , (edited ) in Delta plane clips another aircraft and appears to knock its tail off at Atlanta airport

Endeavor is owned by Delta, so this is really “large Delta plane collides with a smaller Delta plane.”
