People are still moving there. They got the jobs and that's all that matters.

lemmydividebyzero , in German far-right party wins a state election for the first time since the Nazis

Disclaimer: Having most of the votes does not automatically mean being part of the government. You need 50% of the seats and they are alone and won’t get them.

realcaseyrollins OP ,

I figured that’s why the headline wasn’t “The AfD Takes Over Germany!”

davitz ,

I mean it’s a state election. Even if they gained 100% control of that state’s government they wouldn’t have taken over Germany.

realcaseyrollins OP ,

True, but AfD support is still growing in Germany.

mkhopper , in Casualties reported in shooting at Georgia high school, sheriff says. A suspect is in custody | CNN
@mkhopper@lemmy.world avatar

I am so sick of this shit.
I hope that the suspect “stumbled and fell on his face” a lot while in custody.

And to all news media… Please do not print, post or broadcast the suspect’s name. Do not give them the hard-on they are looking for by having their name in the news.

kescusay , (edited ) in Casualties reported in shooting at Georgia high school, sheriff says. A suspect is in custody | CNN

Prediction: It will come out that the shooter used an AR-15 with a bump stock. The usual ammosexuals will come out of the woodwork exclaiming how we can’t possibly ban either.

Edit: Confirmed to be an AR-15.

realcaseyrollins OP ,

I don’t like speculating about shootings before the blood dries, but I’m curious to hearing about and from the shooter, and how the gun was obtained, specifically if it was obtained legally or illegally.

corsicanguppy ,

Yeah, because knowing that will reduce the trauma.

I feel better just thinking it may have been an illegal gun vs a gun bought by someone who could never buy one legally.

IzzyScissor , in Kids Are Working in America’s Meatpacking Plants

Everyone should read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.

It was written almost 120 years ago, and shows just how horrendous these working conditions used to be before the FDA existed. Everyone who wants to cripple the ability of the FDA to regulate these plants wants those kinds of inhumane working conditions back.

It has a socialist message in the second half, but remember - socialism doesn’t replace democracy. Socialism replaces Capitalism.

I mean we did give the republicans a fix that would have done away with all mass school shootings, as well as saved taxpayers huge amount of <s>tax cuts</s> money, broke the teachers unions by allowing offshoring of teaching, decreased critical thinking skills nationwide, and forced women out of the workforce and back to being barefoot and pregnant in the kitchens;

But they rejected Zoom schooling.

corsicanguppy ,

I think unions are the only thing keeping the education system from collapsing under MBA cancer.

peopleproblems , in Zelenskyy says Ukraine plans to indefinitely hold Russian territory it has seized

Dear Kremlin,

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

realcaseyrollins OP ,

I know it’s an old video, but this video from several years ago exposed how weak Russia truly is:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW4I2fPPXFM

It’s absolutely baffling that Putin decided to invade Ukraine considering this context, unless his population was imploding at a dangerous rate and he needed more citizens.

Lojcs , (edited )

(video) From rapid alcoholism to runaway abortion all of this societal decay seems counterintuitive for a country that’s often believed to oppose all matter of degeneracy.

… this seems like a sane person

It’s absolutely baffling that Putin decided to invade Ukraine considering this context, unless his population was imploding at a dangerous rate and he needed more citizens.

All that video about how good Russia is at posturing at America and you’re baffled at Russia… using that to its advantage? They were obviously counting on nato being reluctant to aid Ukraine for the fear of a larger conflict and it was working until that changed couple months ago. And I don’t think I need to explain why a war would make a population problem worse…

Edit: sorry if this sounds too aggressive, I won an imaginary debate before coming across this post

Hugin ,

There are a ton of basic errors in this video. It’s very amateurish. For example he say alcoholism killed 1/3 of the population not 1/3 deaths are du to alcoholism.

I love the internet archive but it’s been an uphill battle all along since it seems they really didn’t have a lot of legal protection.

Here’s a four year old video by Lawful Masses (a copyright lawyer) on the origination of the case and how the law applies.

AFKBRBChocolate ,

Only if you make it clear that the guy is at the very least a Nazi sympathizer. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who would assume you were being pro Musk and pro Carlson if you just posted the image without explanation.

Plus you’re just giving the site activity. Deleting your account would be a much better statement.

Melody , in NaNoWriMo is in disarray after organizers defend AI writing tools

While I wouldn’t condone using an AI to create an entire novel, I would be fine with a human using ChatGPT to generate topics, prompts, and check spelling & grammar.

AI is a tool. It can be used for good, and it can be used for bad. Much like a hammer. There are both good and bad ways to use them.

There’s no reason for there to be prohibition of AI generation; just prohibition of AI Generation being the only source of text.

grue , in The Internet Archive Loses Its Appeal of a Major Copyright Case

The Internet Archive needs to flee the US before the copyright cartel can destroy it completely and usher in an Internet dark age.
