some_guy , in ‘Dangerous and un-American’: new recording of JD Vance’s dark vision of women and immigration

Vance also sideswiped the Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a one-time Somali refugee, claiming she had shown “ingratitude” to America, and that she “would be living in a craphole” had she not moved to the US.

Rather than seeing how incredible it is that she lifted herself from that situation and achieved success gaining access to the highest halls of power, he sees that she comes from a “craphole.” Real cool, JD.

The recording was initially published as an episode of the podcast of American Moment, a rightwing 501c3 non-profit whose website says its mission is to “identify, educate, and credential young Americans who will implement public policy that supports strong families, a sovereign nation, and prosperity for all”. At the time of the recording, Vance sat on the non-profit’s advisory board; he’s now listed under “board members emeritus” on the organization’s website.

Maybe someone needs to ask the IRS to have a look at the books for this org.

It was so tedious reading more of his same crap that I bailed on the article halfway or so. His garbage ideas are the same everywhere he goes. I think I’m gonna stop opening these for a lack of variation.

JD Vance is a shit person and he’s provided receipts to back that claim.

Why have they waited so long to bring these suits? It’s been known for months and months that this is all part of the plan. They put the people in place to block the certifications so that they could just install Trump.

They should have brought for suits and changes the moment that these people were put into place.

“The corruption is it puts people on a career pipeline that causes them to chase things that will make them miserable and unhappy,” Vance said. “And so they get in positions of power and then they project that misery and happiness on the rest of society.”

He’s not wrong, except it’s anyone in that pipeline not just women, and the alternative isn’t necessarily childbearing. But of course this thought isn’t anywhere near his pumpkin.

HomerianSymphony , in Indian American Parade Faces Accusations of Anti-Muslim Bigotry

now, anyone wants to talk about how many times do muslims curse non-muslims (and that too idol worshipers) in their daily 5 prayers?

I’m pretty sure the answer is zero.

The 5 daily prayers (called salah) follow a script, and none of it involves cursing non-Muslims.

(Salah is different from dua, a form of prayer where a Muslim requests something from God. That doesn’t follow a script.)

Live_Let_Live OP ,

salah involves surat al fatihah followed by either quls or in many cases baqarah

here is what baqarah says about non-muslims

“For disbelievers is a painful doom.” 2:104 Allah will make disbelievers’ lives miserable in this world and torture them forever after they die. 2:114 They will not emerge from the Fire. 2:167 Disbelievers worship false gods. The will burn forever in the Fire. 2:257 Apostates will be cursed by Allah, angels, and men. They will have a painful doom. 3:86-88

and this is barely touching the rest,

here is the short 5 prayers you can see for yourself

HomerianSymphony ,

I don’t know where you got the idea that reciting sura al-Baqarah is a common part of salah.

Reciting a sura from the Quran is part of salah, but usually the reciter will choose one of the short suras from near the back of the Quran (known as the quls).

Sura al-Baqarah is the longest sura in the Quran, being 286 verses long, and it is quite rare to recite it during the five-times daily salah, because no one has time for that, and not many people know it by heart.

Live_Let_Live OP ,
HomerianSymphony ,

and that’s the job of imams

Usually people do the five daily prayers in their homes or places of work with no imam around. They might go to a mosque once a week on Friday and hear an imam lead the prayer, and yes, the imam could decide to recite sura al-Baqarah (if the imam doesn’t mind trying the patience and stamina of the congregation, who would have to stand in prayer for an hour while the imam finishes reciting it), but that would be unusual. And even if that did happen, it’s not happening five times a day.

It’s more likely that Muslims would hear sura al-Baqarah once a year, during Ramadan, when the entire Quran is read over 30 nights.

idk what mazhab you follow are you a shia?

I didn’t say I was a Muslim.

Live_Let_Live OP ,

No, it’s compulsory to go to mosque for men.

“Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.” (QS. Al-Bayyina: Verse 6)

HomerianSymphony ,

One of the four quls (which Muslims are encouraged to memorize, and which are usually used in salah) says:

O Al-Kafiroun [non-Muslims]! I worship not that which you worship, Nor will you worship that which I worship. And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping. Nor will you worship that which I worship. To you be your religion and to me my religion.

It’s in the article I linked above.

S491 ,

Live_Let_Live OP , (edited )

did you even check the link i submited ? surat al baqrah is not the only one that calls out for violence

Surah 63 condemns “hypocrites,” those who have renounced their Muslim faith. “They are the enemy. Guard yourself against them.”

S491 , (edited )

Where is the call for violence?

The surah you linked is about how a dude and his wife will burn in hell, and how there wealth won’t save them.

Guarding yourself doesn’t have to be violent.

Secondly I gotta tell you all. I’m not very good at brushing my teeth and I always always had my teeth feel like decaying right after eating meats, beef or chicken for example. I would feel the need to go floss, or I would have that stupid thread of muscle stuck between my teeth for days. That’s a thing of the past. Now all I have to do is not eat acidic foods like soda or vinegar too much and remember to brush and floss. I clean my teeth when I want for the purpose of cleaning them and not because I have something stuck between them. It’s a motivator for me for sure. Meats have loads of bacteria in them that fruits and vegetables do not.

Texas_Hangover ,

Fuck you. I’m gonna go kill something and eat it, just because you pissed me off with this stupid dunbass comment.

SloppyPuppy , in Family confirms death of Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin

6 hostages’ bodies were rescued by IDF. Signs show they were killed in the past week by Hammas in a tunnel.

WanderingVentra ,

Well that’s depressing =(

TWeaK ,

So we can reasonably assume they were alive until the IDF ramped things up in both Gaza and the West Bank.

SloppyPuppy ,

What type of bs comment is this. We can also safely assume they had a very happy life until hammas decided to kidnap them on OCT 7.

Did hammas expect IDF to not come and take back kidnapped citizens? Was hammas expecting Israel to just sit aside and look while 250 of its people were brutally kidnapped?

TWeaK ,

We can also safely assume they had a very happy life until hammas decided to kidnap them on OCT 7.

Absolutely. However they were kept alive until recently. What happened recently? Israel stepped up its assault. This is a strong correlation.

Does the IDF expect Hamas to just hand over hostages when they come in? If Israel were sincere about their desire to rescue hostages they would be acting differently.

matlag ,

To summarize: they had a happy life until a terrorist group took them during a massacre.

Then they lived a short horrible life in the hands of their takers, while there is a war outside where one side claim to fight to liberate them without actually negociating their release and the other claims to use them as hostages while not really negociating their release either.

And somewhat, they end up dead because let’s be real: neither side gave a f*ck about them.

TWeaK ,

Yeah pretty much.

I mean I’d just draw back to three things:

  • Ben Gvir was closely involved in the Israeli far right group that assassinated the Israeli Prime Minister in the 90s.
  • Netanyahu previously said that people should give Hamas money, as this would be the best way for Israel to take control of Gaza and the West Bank (and apparently now their eyes are on Lebanon next).
  • For some reason Netanyahu left a skeleton crew on the border, sacrificing guards in the towers, relying on an early warning system with an obvious single point of failure (sole reliance on the cellphone network), on the 50th anniversary of the last Yom Kippur war. Anyone with half a brain would realise that such a calendar date is a time for heightened security, not relaxed. And this is the man who campaigned for office on his ability to provide security for Israel.
Doorbook ,

One important point: “ the other claims to use them as hostages while not really negociating their release either.” is false.

Hamas did and still agree to a biden resolution.

What happen after? Everyday israel kills a range goes from 15 to 150. Assassinate two of the main negotiator for hamas. Continue depriving civilian in gaza ( basically children and women) from basic life needed support ( limited food and medicine - limited access to water ) and ask them to move from corner to another safe place to bomb them again in the save place.

Neon ,

yeah. The same way that the allies are responsible for the jews killed in Bergen-Belsen because the Nazis sped up killing them as the allies approached

/s obviously

TWeaK ,

The Nazis didn’t have prisoner release on the negotiating table. I’m not saying Hamas’ terms were right, but the IDF hardly exhausted all options, or even most options, before they went “oh boy here I go killing again”.

Also, the IDF previously killed hostages that were topless waiving white, such is their bloodlust.

jonne ,

What makes you say it’s Hamas that killed them? The pattern is usually the IDF killing them, with the exception of the one incident where the IDF killed a hostage taker’s family.

snek ,
@snek@lemmy.world avatar

You are getting Sloppy with spelling. Anyway you don’t rescue a body.

Neon ,

yes, you do.

This body now gets the funeral it deserves.

snek ,
@snek@lemmy.world avatar

…Sure.

Badabinski ,

Not trying to be pedantic, but you recover the body once someone is dead. Rescue specifically means that you're trying to get to a person before further injury or death can occur. Recovering someone's remains is done almost purely out of respect for our need for burials and closure. It's a really solomn and respectful thing that's not to be taken lightly, so recover is absolutely the right word to use here.

Source: I did some search and rescue training as a kid.

TWeaK ,

I mean, you are trying to be pedantic lol but it’s justified in this instance.

Neon ,

The Atheist side in me agrees with you.

But in a lot of religions (islam comes to mind for example) a proper burial is needed to advance to heaven.

So yes, you’re rescuing them and their soul.

You can also say that you rescued their bodies from destruction / defiling if you think that the bodies would have been defiled
