xmunk , in Trump claims he’s pro-worker. Project 2025 will gut labor rights

Even without project 2025 Trump has a history of refusing to pay his own employees. He’s a fucking weird ass clown.

DarkDecay ,

He’s soooo old too. He’s just pathetic at this point

Jarmer , in Sofa so bad for JD Vance as Trump’s VP pick faces swirling speculation

I’m from central KY and my wife’s from Appalachia. I think the entire region would have a massive week long party titled “FUCK JD VANCE FOREVER” if this happened. He’s one of the most hated people around here. You even bring up his name and you can see people’s heart rates and fury and anger go up even before the ranting begins.

ChicoSuave ,

Sounds like some tea. What did the sofa king do?

eestileib ,

He wrote a whole book telling big city people that all of their prejudices against Appalachia and the people who live there are 100% correct.

Jarmer ,

Yeah he basically wrote a book full of a bunch of lies in which he shits all over kentucky, but also the entire appalachian region with just a whole truckload of baseless claims and completely made up “stories” of his upbringing that never happened. It’s all lies. Like @eestileib said, it just preyed on the prejudice big city people all over the country had about this region, having never actually been here at all. They think of Appalachia and think no shoes, inbred hillbillies who can’t even speak and don’t have running water. Vance wrote a NY TIMES BESTSELLER (how on earth did they approve that) that just made up a bunch of lies confirming all those prejudices. In reality Appalachia is one of the most unique, gorgeous, creative, wonderful places on earth. Of course it has its problems, but Vance would never write something about how beautiful and wonderful something is. He’d much rather write something that tears down and belittles people he knows nothing about.

As I said: he’s probably the #1 most hated human around this region.

Fedizen , in Elon Musk Says He And Trump Have Discussed Creating ‘Efficiency Commission’ To Deregulate But Warns: ‘The Matrix Will Fight Back’

I’ve been saying for a while that the giant covid bailouts for businesses are exactly what will happen if trump is re-elected. He’s so afraid of not being able to say “best economy ever” he’ll drive up inflation to make failing megacorps slightly more profitable to shareholders insatiable greed.

If you think house prices are unaffordable now, consider how much extra money rich people will throw around after another round of tax cuts for themselves.

Asafum , in Harris rejects Trump's idea to debate her on FOX with live audience.

Maybe jussssst maybe we don’t need to hand piece of shit billionare owned media exclusivity? Like mayyyyybe we use a college campus and have the signal aired and all so-called “media” can broadcast it to their audiences? The moderators are more than likely the issue they’ll argue about, but all they did last time was read off a card and hit a mute button (sometimes)… A janitor and the weekend maintenance person could handle that shit.

Nahhh… That’s like commusocialvezuelaism or something.

Getting rid of Biden loyalists and bringing in Obama people was really smart. They know you can’t just expect people who were going to vote for Trump to not do it now that she’s the presumptive (at this point we can just probably drop the presumptive) nominee. You have to do the work.

Obama’s people were really good at both doing the work themselves and organizing others to do so.

someguy3 ,

That’s an odd thing to say “Biden loyalists” when there’s no Biden running. There’s literally nothing to be “loyal” to.

But let’s separate this out, she brought on Obama campaigners because she needs the energy they brought to the election campaign. When it comes to her staffing the administration if she wins, I wouldn’t be surprised if she brings back many of Biden’s secretaries and other staff, who you would call loyalists but really are just good workers.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t help what they’re called. Just do a search for “Biden loyalists.”

For example, from one day ago: washingtonpost.com/…/kamala-harris-hires-new-seni…

someguy3 ,

You can use your own terms you know.

The term Biden loyalist is pretty much an oxymoron now.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I can, but I decided to use the term that people seem to agree upon so that I could be most easily understood.

I’m sorry you don’t like it because it isn’t literally true.

someguy3 , (edited )

No offense but part of critical thinking is to not simply accept terms, portrayals, or ideas that others present. When you think critically about that term and portrayal, it falls apart because it’s essentially an oxymoron. Especially when you can replace it with a very easy and more accurate “Biden campaign staffers”.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

And part of language is to use terms that people understand whether or not the term makes sense.

You must have a lot of trouble with people who say things are old news or taste bittersweet.

someguy3 , (edited )

You think people can’t understand “Biden campaign staffers”?

I think you just turned to personal attacks, so cheers. (But to respond, old terms are old terms. You use them in the old context, but this is the new context. Nor is this bittersweet, which honestly doesn’t make any sense and I think is a blind attempt to ‘rub it in’ in the hope that it hurts. Anyways cheers.)

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

For someone who is complaining this much about a term being misused in their opinion, you sure have a funny idea of what constitutes a personal attack.

Xanis ,

On one hand I reaally want Bernie to call on the old 2016 grassroots crowd. On the other hand I expect that would backfire.

If it didn’t though, the potential wave of support would be tremendous. It’s then reassuring that Harris is showing initiative within the party, something we’ve missed for many years.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Bernie told people to vote for Biden this year. I’m sure he’ll put his support behind Harris as well.

STOP GOING AFTER WHITE VOTERS.

Jesus Christ when are they going to learn. The last couple Democrat wins came from black and youth voters. White Americans (especially older) do not vote Democrat. You’d have an easier time teaching a dog Mandarin then flipping the Republican or nothing voter. Even with moderates Republicans they fall in line and independent conservatives are a tiny minority

NegativeInf ,

Guess I’m not white. Does being gay just fully cancel out my skin color? Or is it my neurodivergence?

There are segments of the traditional GOP voter that are incredibly sick of Trump and have become persuadable. With outreach tailored to that segment, she may be able to get some of them to vote for her - and even larger segments to at least not vote for him.

BackOnMyBS ,
@BackOnMyBS@lemmy.autism.place avatar

Yeah, that’s a weird thing to make a press release about. Who tells the press that they were asked if they have a secret family? And why is the weird part, according to him, of this that he was asked with his wife present? I think the weirdest part of all this is that they thought that was weird. But actually, this whole thing is weird. Something about this is off. Weird af 😬

mozz , (edited )
@mozz@mbin.grits.dev avatar

I mean it is sensible for them to ask about it. It is maybe a little foolish of them to do it in front of his wife.

The truly hilarious part about it is that he is so stupid that he thinks (a) it’s something unusual or personal to him, instead of just vetting of candidates like they always do (b) he thinks talking to the media about it is a productive way to react to that perceived unusualness.

All I can do is look upon the GOP and smile and encourage. “Good… good… let the stupidity and incompetence flow through you.”
