Zier , in The battle over J&J’s bankruptcy plan to end talc lawsuits
@Zier@fedia.io avatar

If Asbestos is in the talc, it cannot be removed.
Don't use products with talc, regardless of how "safe" a company claims it is. You can do tests that won't detect Asbestos in talc. But a proper test will show if there is Asbestos in the talc.
No one needs to use talc anymore in toiletries or food. There are safe alternatives, this is 2024, science has progressed.
J&J just wants to avoid losing money and talc is just a cheap product.
I boycotted J&J years before this latest issue arose with the talc. There are less evil corporations to buy from.

dhork , in 'Blitz primary' could open up Democratic race if Biden drops out

The biggest farce is calling this a “primary”. That implies that there is a chance the outcome may change. It wouldn’t be a Primary, it would be a Telethon. I mean, they admit as much: they focus on the fundraising aspect of all of it more than anything else and they plan to have celebrity hosts just like Jerry Lewis used to have on Labor Day.

A national economic risk is allowing corporate ownership of residential property too, and yet here we are.

2484345508 ,

That’s bad too.

Hildegarde ,

Domestic buyers can be just as much of a risk as foreign buyers. We should abolish land ownership for national security reasons.

2484345508 ,

And let the government own and control the land? Yikes… I can see that going bad real fast.

Hildegarde ,

BLM and the forest service are pretty okay.

2484345508 ,

You have far too much trust in the government. Our land belongs to the citizens, and if the government needs to jump in it should be to prevent predatory landlords, which it hasn’t done and therefore has shown it is unable to manage it effectively.

I remember reading about one case a while back where a Chinese company bought a solar farm directly overlooking a Navy weapons testing facility; CFIUS forced divestment of that farm.

Drusas ,

I think you're referring to a sale that did not go through. I remember reading about that not too long ago. I assume that potential sale in particular is what led to this change.

Edit: I read the article. I was mostly right, except the sale did go through but the land had to be sold again promptly.

The expansion comes less than two months after a previous CFIUS review handed a Chinese-linked company and its partners 120 days to sell property they had purchased one mile from a U.S. Air Force base in Wyoming that is home to part of the U.S. nuclear missile arsenal.

tal ,
@tal@lemmy.today avatar

I don’t think that the one in the article is the one I remember. I’m pretty sure that the one I’m thinking of was a naval weapons testing facility, not an air force base.

Rentlar , in Scalpers Reverse-Engineer Ticketmaster's 'Non-Transferrable' Tickets

tate , in 'Blitz primary' could open up Democratic race if Biden drops out
@tate@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

The nominee must be chosen by August 7th to be on the ballot in Ohio. The convention is too late.

morphballganon ,

Whatever statute you’re referencing could be amended.

tate ,
@tate@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

No. The DNC is planning to officially nominate Biden well ahead of the convention, only to meet this deadline to get on Ohio’s ballot.

apnews.com/…/ohio-ballot-biden-access-3bf359cce8e…

morphballganon ,

You’re talking about the official plan, which is all well and good, but it has nothing to do with the topic at hand, which is a blitz primary.

tate ,
@tate@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

If an alternate candidate is not officially chosen before August 7, they will not appear on the Ohio ballot.

morphballganon ,

Well then, either A. We’ll have to win without Ohio, or B. Ohio can get their heads out of their asses and approve the primaried candidate post-deadline, or C. This won’t matter because the primary blitz is a hypothetical scenario.

tate ,
@tate@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Whether this hypothetical scenario happens or it goes some other way, it would be incredibly foolish and incompetent for the DNC to miss this deadline and just write off Ohio.

morphballganon ,

Sure, 18 delegates are a significant number.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

How can that be legal? How can Ohio demand a candidate be official before they’ve been nominated? I don’t want Biden to die, but what if he’s nominated on August 7th and dies on August 8th? Does Harris automatically go on the ballot? Does a dead man stay on the ballot?

tate ,
@tate@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

That’s always an issue no matter what the deadlines are.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Is it? This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a state requiring a ballot be finalized before the convention.

tate ,
@tate@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I meant that the candidate could die or otherwise have to drop out after the ballots are finalized. That is always an issue, in every election.

ghostdoggtv ,

How? Fascist bullshit, that’s how. It’s basically heads I win tails you lose, except heads is the legalistic authoritarian frameworks abide and we get our choice of shit sandwich in the general and tails is complete collapse of the old republic into the new American unitary executive empire.

EnderWiggin , in Satanists to volunteer in Florida schools in protest at DeSantis religious bill

Mastengwe ,

Because they don’t give a shit about anything that doesn’t make Biden look bad. It’s the same reason you never see them on posts critical of Trump.

remotelove ,

Also, they haven’t been assigned their copy-pasta wall of links that shows this incident is a false flag operation or that it was actually a hoax orchestrated by NATO.

Mastengwe ,

Yep. It’s always eerily quiet right after something happens that suits their narrative. It’s almost as if they don’t have the collective brain space to know how to react or what to say until they’re fed their directives.

Then, it’s a clusterfuck of teenaged edgelords whining about shit that everyone knows they didn’t care about less than a year ago.

remotelove ,

I am not going to post any links here, but a good place to find their narrative starting propagate is on far-right social networks. In some cases, there will be complete silence, like an event never happened. In others, all you need to do is track the accounts of foreign “reporters” or talking heads that still have access to those platforms.

And yeah, the teenaged edgelords will pick up the slack shortly after. It takes about a day or so for the conspiracy theories to propagate.

This particular incident is probably going to spawn “wHaT aBoUt dOnbASs?” type trolling, if I had to guess.
