PanArab , (edited ) in House Democrat is proposing a constitutional amendment to reverse Supreme Court's immunity decision

Good luck getting -2/3- 3/4 of the states to ratify it.

Snowclone ,

I’d hope this ruling would inspire the need, but I won’t hold my breath.

chiliedogg ,

3/4 for amendments, actually.

PanArab ,

That’s even harder.

Spicy!!! I don’t really enjoy travel or flying in the first place - it’s mostly the amount of time standing and waiting in the middle of a crowd of people who have nothing to do but wait. But the Boeing (and others) stuff makes it real easy for me to stay home and not waste the money/resources.

I value quality time with my two pups more than travel. Taking a train to somewhere remote and beautiful is not off the menu, though. Marginally better than my experiences on a Greyhound.

Like, we know toxins concentrate in water creatures. That’s why you’ll see way more warnings about fish you harvest on any DNR page than you will deer.

Soon:

How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.

AdamBomb ,

Oops! All PFAS!

GiuseppeAndTheYeti ,

I mean, based on the amount of bottled water people drink im pretty sure that could be a concern for most people. I don’t drink water bottled in plastic because I think it’s wasteful and contributes to the massive amount of plastic pollution already going on, but even if we consider that the recycling process is 100% efficient, those thin, flimsy bottles are still getting heated by and exposed to sunlight. It would be naive to think they aren’t leaching plastics into the water. Just buy a cheap metal bottle and refill from the tap. That’s where all the major brands get their water from anyway.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Of course, that tap water is probably filled with PFAS.

Someone remind me of what happened after Johnson was replaced and how that worked out for the Democrats…

I don’t like Biden. None of us here appear to like Biden. The problem is that no one can agree on who would be best to replace him with. Unless that can be resolved right away, we’re stuck with Biden whether or not that means failure. Honestly, at this point, I’m seeing Trump’s presidency as a horrific inevitability.

bolexforsoup ,

Yeah if we had somebody who was a consensus candidate sort of waiting in the wings, I would push harder. But we don’t. And as the article says, leapfrogging over Harris would be a terrible look.

Pacattack57 ,

This is the problem with the Dems. Worried about giving people “their turn” or whatever. That’s why Hillary got the nomination and why we will be stuck with Kamala. We are handing Trump the presidency on a silver platter. Running an incoherent 81 year old man with a VP nobody likes because he’s the incumbent. Jesus Christ we are doomed.

bolexforsoup ,

It’s not about “it’s their turn,” it’s that if she isn’t fit to be president then why is she fit to be vice president? Skipping over her creates even more messaging issues and such.

Unfortunately the presidential election is largely a popularity contest. Optics are incredibly important. And the optics on just kind of pretending she’s not there are terrible.

toast ,

Being fit to be president and being a candidate with a good chance to win are very different things.

Right now, the Democrats need a candidate that can win. If this isn’t their top priority, then how can anyone take seriously their claim that Trump threatens democracy itself. They have to pick a candidate that people really want

Ensign_Crab ,

It’s not about “it’s their turn,” it’s that if she isn’t fit to be president then why is she fit to be vice president? Skipping over her creates even more messaging issues and such.

Yeah, imagine the message it would send. “We’re willing to admit when we make a mistake and we listen to party membership.”

Completely off brand for the Democratic Party.

BertramDitore ,
@BertramDitore@lemmy.world avatar

This is why, despite the fact that many of us also dislike Kamala, she should be the only name in the running, and he shouldn’t wait until the convection to step aside. He should resign now, let Kamala be president for a few months, and then she can run in the election as an incumbent with full party support. No one else can legally claim his delegates or even use the campaign’s money, only she can do that if he resigns. This would be the only real way to force the DCCC into not shitting the bed, which is their default setting. Any other approach, in my opinion, is a recipe for mayhem at the convention, and yeah, an inevitable Trump presidency.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think a black woman has much of a chance of being elected president in this climate, but even if that weren’t the case, it’s my understanding that she’s even more disliked than Biden.

the_crotch ,

I think a black woman with Obama’s gravitas would mop the floor with trump. She doesn’t have that, and she’s got a ton of baggage too.

toast ,

she should be the only name in the running

I very much disagree

For her (or anyone) to have a chance, there has to be some semblance of competition (if not for voters, at least for delegates)

A spectacle at the convention would get news coverage, and competition between Biden replacements would be the best way to vet the candidates’ viability

The last thing anyone should want is for the DNC to simply anoint any one person without any outside input

Glad you posted this, it reminded me to update my Lemmy content filter! Up to now, I’ve just filtered out any headline including the word “slam, slammed, or slams.” Because those headlines are garbage. Now I’ve remembered I need to add the word “blast, blasted, and blasts,” because those are garbage too. Thanks!!

Hugh_Jeggs ,

Nah op is in the right here, it’s a really reliable indicator of ragebait, tabloid and/or amateur journalism

extremeboredom ,

Nahh, an article can present a point of view we deem to be “correct” while still engaging in clickbait and sensationalism. I’m not interested in clickbait or sensationalism, so I find that my filtering methods do a pretty good job of getting rid of most of the trash.

So it has happened before, and we already know what happened last time. Doesn’t seem a very convincing argument for Biden to step down.

UltraGiGaGigantic , in 'I'm not leaving': Biden expands effort to tamp down calls to step aside

If we used a voting system like Ranked Choice voting, it wouldn’t matter! Biden could run all he wants and we could vote for someone else and if they didn’t win… our vote would get transferred to the next in line (in this example biden).

Yawweee877h444 ,

That’s probably why we’ll never get ranked choice voting. It could mean a win for the general public in electing who we actually want, instead of what the establishment forces on us.

In coffee, researchers suspect that the beans, water used for brewing, or soil could be contaminated. Previous research has also found coffee filters to be treated with PFAS, and paper cups or other food packaging also commonly contain the chemicals.

I’d guess it could also be K Cups and non-dairy creamer, but who knows
