Maybe one of these people? Not that I like them, but they are not trump, have a chance, and are not on their deathbed.

I’d take a Whitmer-Buttigieg ticket in a millisecond.

Rubisco ,

That has a nice ring to it. You’re on to something here.

bmsok ,

Gretchen is such a wonderful person, too. I used to deliver groceries to her and her family. She just used an app with the username Gretchen W. She always helped me get the groceries from my car and into the kitchen if she was home.

Her daughters were also extremely polite and willing to help.

Maybe we should’ve had a real primary with debates and interviews and stuff =(

We need an America 2 where we can apply all the lessons we’ve learned, like primary every election and judges that can be recalled easier for corruption.

mlg ,
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

I’m convinced Whitmer refused the first time because she didn’t want to suck the DNC’s requirements so that they’d choose her as the preferred candidate in their sham primary.

stoly , in Undecided voter focus group disappointed in Biden's debate performance

Getting really sick of the media focusing only on what Biden did wrong rather than what Trump did wrong.

MimicJar ,

You know who just had the opportunity to focus on what Trump did (and is doing) wrong and flubbed it? Biden.

A vote for Biden is the easiest decision I’ll make this year. Biden and his administration are doing solid work and I want to see more of it. Trump ensures genocide in Gaza. Trump ensures even more horrible acts in Ukraine by Russia. Trump ensures an even further conservative Supreme Court, further destroying and reversing settled law. Another 4 years of Trump will be a disaster.

But I know this already.

Any other generic Democrat would have kicked Trump’s ass last night. Trump tells a lie, they correct it. Biden got a few blows in but he flubbed so many more.

Look at abortion, a layup for Democrats. America as a whole agrees with Democrats on the issue. What did Biden do? Fumbled and wandered into something about immigration.

The focus on Biden because we want better. Biden is better. Prove it.

Pilferjinx ,

Trump was Trump, as expected. There’s nothing more to be said about him that hasn’t already been said.

disguy_ovahea , in America falters in fighting the information war

I wonder why. Maybe it has something to do with Republicans in Congress overtly supporting Russia or covertly supporting China? “Ukraine is a non-NATO failed state. We would pull out our support.” “The review board restricting Chinese investments is governmental overreach.”

They’ve already succumbed to the disinformation and are unknowingly supporting the agenda.

grue ,

“Unknowingly” – maybe for a few of the idiots in the back, but not the party leadership. I mean, they have international conferences right out in the open (let alone more secretive cabals) where they collude to advance their fascist agenda worldwide. Don’t tell me you’re still surprised by now that even their railing against the “(((globalist))) new world order” was yet more projection, LOL.

mean_bean279 ,

While I agree those are major issues, the other big reason is that we have a lot of countries doing a lot of PsyOps on our nation. That’s what happens when you’re the “world power” and people want to bring you down. The Chinese outnumber us 2.5 to 1 and the Russians and North Koreans are happy to help. As are the Iranians, half of South America and a number of middle eastern countries. It’s sort of inevitable. The problem is that when we started making and deploying this technology we put zero safe guards in place to protect the average American from this.

Ghostalmedia , in Supreme Court overturns Chevron decision, curtailing federal agencies' power in major shift
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

Am I crazy for thinking that this is actually worse than the court banning abortion?

At least with abortion bans, people could see the direct impact and that could motivate voter turnout. This will be a decision that many voters won’t easily recognize as the cause of the corruption and injustice they will be feeling. A lot of people are going to get hurt, and they’re not going to know the real reason behind it.

The GOP finally got what they’ve been trying to get since the 80s. Get ready for The Jungle 2.0.

The GOP wanted Chevron in the 80s. It was a way of tweaking laws passed already without legislative resistance.

In 1981, after Ronald Reagan became President, the EPA changed its interpretation of the word “source” in the law to mean only an entire plant or factory, not an individual building or machine.

lone_faerie ,

I mean that’s still what they want, absolute control. It’s just that as soon as Chevron started working against them, they got rid of it.

rayyy ,

It also opens the door to bribery.

disguy_ovahea , in US will remove Gaza aid pier due to weather and may not put it back, officials say

They have plenty of aid on land. The obstacle is land delivery to Gaza due to Israeli attacks, not weather damage to the pier.

The pier has been used to get more than 19.4 million pounds, or 8.6 million kilograms, of food into Gaza but has faced multiple setbacks.

She noted that the secure area onshore is “pretty close to full,” but that the intention is still to get aid into Gaza by all means necessary. She said the U.S. is having discussions with the aid agencies about the distribution of the food.

The big challenge has been that humanitarian convoys have stopped carrying the aid from the pier’s storage area further into Gaza, to get it into civilian hands, because they have come under attack.

Wrench ,

This is the key problem that seems to be getting buried everywhere

The big challenge has been that humanitarian convoys have stopped carrying the aid from the pier’s storage area further into Gaza, to get it into civilian hands, because they have come under attack.

If we’re not worrying about the cost of the pier, which I don’t think the Left is at all, then it’s really not about the storms and the maintenance that’s needed to keep it operational.

The problem is Isreal is still functionally blocking the aid from reaching the people.

So why spend so many resources on this pier and put your people at risk, when distribution of the delivered aid is blockaded the same as the land aid.

some_guy ,

Israel is an asshole state.

jonne ,

Love the passive voice there. ‘because they’ve come under attack’. Definitely don’t mention who is bombing humanitarian convoys.

Betteridge’s law of headlines is an adage that states: “Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no.”

Maggoty ,

That doesn’t hold up logically. Editors can ask any question they want in a headline.

AFKBRBChocolate , (edited ) in Fact-checking CNN’s presidential debate: How accurate were Joe Biden and Donald Trump?

So most of Trump’s are just outright lies, while most of Biden’s are things like “Well it’s true it happened but it’s hard to know if it’s because of him,” or “It’s true Trump said that a bunch of times but he hasn’t been saying that lately.”
