I almost became homeless myself recently because the landlord wanted his house back after me renting the place for 19 years. It wasn’t my fault, and I simply cannot afford rent anywhere else with my SSDI income.
All the usual suggestions and arguments in favor of homeless sweeps and victim blaming fall apart for people like me: shelters are not an option because I don’t always stay sane when exposed to too many people; I’m not on recreational drugs at this time, so I can’t be dismissed as deserving of homelessness for that reason; I’m taking my meds as I should; I can’t get HUD vouchers because I’m sleeping on a relative’s porch; mental institutions are not an option unless I’m in imminent danger of hurting myself or others; etc.
The reality is that a person in need often faces roadblock after roadblock when trying to find housing, and there aren’t enough funds handed out to solve the problem. I’m just grateful to be one of the lucky few who is stabilizing with a roof over my head, incomplete as it is.
I think most people just won’t care until it happens to them.
But, then the nations leading the committee wouldn’t have advantages in materials science and analysis of fluid dynamics. The Olympics are aren’t about the spirit of human competition. It’s about which nation is better by count of medals.
So evict someone living paycheck to paycheck and force them onto the street, they won’t be able to afford to challenge it because they’d need to put up more money than they have, and then arrest them because homelessness is illegal.
Regardless of what Biden does or doesn’t do, what is with this Pelosi kingmaker bullshit, and why does she have so much standing and influence despite having retired?
I mean she’s not dem leader anymore. I know she still represents CA as dean . I just find it strange I’ve seen so many articles mentioning her as though she’s still in charge.

Edit - and now the recent articles claiming Obama wants Biden to step down too, which is supposedly conjecture and hearsay. It all reads like a hit campaign of known democratic leadership names, and it seems really odd how little coverage there is of the various democratic representatives in full support of Biden.
Obama and Biden are really close friends. If he’s lost Obama’s confidence, that’s a really big deal that absolutely deserves media coverage. Also, Nancy Pelosi has a ton of clout in the Democratic party, that didn’t just disappear when she stepped down from leadership
She’s a top fundraiser in the party. She comes from a prominent district. She led the party through historic legislation. She knows what it’s like to step down from a position of power.
I remember Dobbs used to have polls on CNN that would consistently come back at 95% plus in favor of his position. The polls were always worded like, “Are you in favor of destroying America with open borders that allow drugs and sex trafficking?”
I went online and voted in them sometimes to boost the “bad” answer.
No, the TLDR is that they are waging a war on the nonbelievers. At least that’s my takeaway. They want a fully Christian government. They’re “Christian”.
Sorta? With both the last ones they’ve been open about discouraging it but our current Scotus seems to be chomping at the bit to kill Loving v Virginia and I’m sure they’re doing homework to try and kill separation of church and state.
