The solution: Amnesty and citizenship. Screw this "Everyone must suffer trying to be here." They wanna be here. There are jobs for them. Just swear them in and forget all this bullshit.
Make them pay all the workers the difference between their actual wages and minimum wage up to a few years back and, once established that they do in fact work there, it’s up to the employer to prove they weren’t there that long but require full access to those books and include everyone in them for the back pay. Plus personal liability for anyone who was aware when it bankrupts the company.
Edit: and the reporter is fast tracked through the citizenship process.
We encourage people to do this for Fox News links.
While Fox News isn’t actively blacklisted at this time, our stance is that we do prefer other sources/outlets if the same story is available. As I mentioned in another comment, we read both of these articles and they contain basically the same content, so we left this post up, and that is basically how these posts are being evaluated at this time (checking to make sure they aren’t misleading/reporting incorrect information).
Also as mentioned in my other comment, we do also understand that a lot of users do not want to click Fox News links and support them, so I do also encourage people to post links to other outlets in the comments so users can still read the article if they choose to do so.
Our stance is that we prefer if people use other outlets if the same story is available elsewhere, although it isn’t outright blacklisted (at this time).
We skimmed this article and the article posted above from BBC, and they contain basically the same information so we are leaving it up as it seems this article wasn’t written in bad faith.
That said, we do understand that users do not want to click Fox News links and support them.
This is a constant talking point between the mods that is actively monitored and discussed on whether we should continue to allow it, but for the time being, we are just doing our best to encourage users to use other outlets and reading the articles and comparing them to what other outlets have reported to ensure they aren’t misleading or reporting incorrect information before we decide to leave it up.
Meyer said he has been flooded with offers of help from press freedom groups and other news organizations. But he said what he and his staff need is more hours in the day to get their next edition put together.
Both he and Newell are contemplating lawsuits — Newell against the newspaper and Meyer against the public officials who staged the raid.
What happened is terrible, and he and the staff must be in so much pain right now, but this is Meyer’s opportunity to step up and tackle the bigger issue vs focus on what’s happening to him.
A small local paper can miss an issue if it means making a national point about the abuses that allow small-town overreach to occur. If they’ve never missed an issue before, that even becomes a positive in court. If he doesn’t accept the help, and doesn’t file lawsuits, this will be a distant memory.
It will be like he’s in an abusive relationship with the local government. “That’s just how they are, but I’m getting to do my thing now, so oh well,” and the abuses there, and everywhere, continue. I truly hope that’s not the case.
Slightly off topic. A lot of public schools already get free meals thanks to federal education dollars. The school lunches are free in my area because of this, even though the (red) state won’t act.
The state has attempted to kill off those dollars in the past.
“Disaster tourism” is a thing. A very disgusting thing. Rich people with no fucking heart go tour the affected area and look at the suffering people like they’re a zoo. Then they “help” by spending a few hours volunteering and claim they’re doing something.
“I offered a real date. Dana White (UFC boss) offered to make this a legit competition for charity.
“Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead.
“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.”
