NOT_RICK , in Violence outside Los Angeles synagogue taxed LAPD, sparks condemnation from Biden, Newsom, Bass. Mayor adds additional LAPD patrols outside houses of worship citywide

For anyone wondering why this Synagogue was the site of a protest:

They arrived apparently in response to a real estate event that promised to provide the latest information on “housing projects in all the best Anglo neighborhoods in Israel,” according to an advertisement that appeared in the June 21 issue of the Jewish Journal.

Facebook has always been first and foremost an advertising platform, and they went where the money is. Some of that’s the automated algorithms, some of that is deliberate corporate informationeering.

I offer some thoughts on the decline and fall of the internet here, and I think it’s germane to this discussion: …substack.com/…/visions-of-a-post-apocalyptic-int…

Burn_The_Right , (edited ) in Supreme Court Will Rule On Gender-Affirming Care For Minors

Every time the illegitimate SCOTUS takes away more rights from the normal people, I look at my conservative neighbors and recognize my enemy. Conservatives surround us and celebrate the pain, misery and death they cause. Yet, we treat them with kindness and professionalism as if conservatism is some legitimate world-view that deserves any amount of respect.

Conservatism is not normal. It is not respectable. Conservatives are a hate-group and should be openly identified and treated as such.

There has never been a peaceful resolution for fascism. To address a deadly infestation of conservatives, one must take action. We must all take action, or we can expect to be oppressed, tortured and murdered for generations to come.

This is not like WWII. There will be no outside force to save us. We must do this ourselves and we must do it immediately, before they achieve their permanent win condition.

UltraGiGaGigantic ,

Shouldn’t your enemy be the 1% that is funding the propaganda networks for both Republicans and democrats?

dezmd ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

What action are you trying to imply, exactly?

Sounds like a divisive call for violence and civil war, the exact sort of shit the nuttier conservatives play up when talking about liberals. You aren’t even advocating attacking the definite bad actors in positions of power, you are advocating attacking neighbors.

This even works as the exact sort of propaganda foreign state adversaries would use to stir up unrest to keep the US frozen from the inside, in to reduce our impact on potential global conflicts, ie Ukraine, Taiwan, South Korea, etc.

When all you see are enemies, you’ve embraced the very hate you think you are standing against.

afraid_of_zombies , in ‘Too many old people’: A rural Pa. town reckons with population loss

Those rural people should start throwing cornstarch paint on stuff to raise awareness of this important issue

Feliskatos , in US Olympic and other teams will bring their own AC units to Paris, undercutting environmental plan

The world will continue to get hotter year by year until climate change is solved. I’d fully expect to see more AC use, not less. This won’t be limited just to athletes, but it will be limited by affordability.

UnderpantsWeevil ,
@UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world avatar

Big cities already periodically provide “Cooling Centers” to support the large population of working poor who can’t afford the sky high energy bills. I have no idea what rural communities do during a heat-wave induced brown out. Everyone gets in the lake that’s full of industrial agricultural run off? They retreat into the mines, like a bunch of Morlocks? Y’all just fucking die?

But this is entirely unsustainable long term. Either we find a way to keep our large populations cool during the killer hot months or we stop having large populations all together.

androogee , (edited )

Agent641 ,

eatthecake ,

The athletes who get aircon will also be determined by who comes from a wealthy country. Makes a mockery of the games imo, should disqualify them all for having an unfair advantage.

Feliskatos ,

Yours is an interesting viewpoint. Should athletic competitions also include heat tolerance?

absentbird ,
@absentbird@lemm.ee avatar

By France not supplying AC to all the teams, it makes it so the competition does include heat tolerance, but only for nations that can’t afford to bring their own cool air.

eatthecake ,

You can’t remove individual differences but there ought to be a level playing field at least at the actual competition. Is it acceptable to provide better accommodation to rich countries? White countries? I think at the games everyone should be treated equally.

ashok36 ,

Economic imbalance is baked into the games.

A runner that trains in a state of the art facility with a nutritionist and physiotherapist on call 24/7 will inherently have an advantage over a runner from a poor country that trains in their spare time at the local high school track. Acting like air conditioning is a step too far is silly.

eatthecake ,

Economic imbalance is baked into the games.

Taking your own air conditioner and rubbing it in the face of those who can’t afford it, in the olympic village where you’re all supposed to be treated the same, is such a glaring display of economic privilege that i find it bothersome.

I’m always embarrassed by Australia spending a fortune on sport and then congratulating ourselves for winning more medals, especially at the commonwealth games where most of the countries are poor.

A_Random_Idiot ,

Climate change will never be solved. It wont even be mitigated.

It will just continue to get worse until it stops being a curiosity the rich invest into solutions (which will never be practical for scale) for positive coverage, and shift their money into their survival plans… Bunkers, Sea Living (under sea or on ships), or space ships to get to lunar colonies or mars.

A small, lucky few of the proletariate might even get selected to be “Saved” along side them, because afterall… the Rich need their menial labor.

And everyone else will suffer and die.

homesweethomeMrL , in Autopsy finds boy suffocated in NC wilderness camp death

“The cause of death is asphyxia due to smothering,” the autopsy said. “The manner of death is homicide.”

WBTV is not identifying the boy, who died on his first night at the camp, Trails Carolina.

. . . The Transylvania County Sheriff, who is investigating the boy’s death, has previously said he was waiting for the autopsy to be released before moving forward in his investigation.

Trails Carolina is a camp for troubled teens. WBTV has been investigating the camp since 2021. The February death was the second time a camper had died at the facility in a decade.

afraid_of_zombies , in America’s housing crisis continues to worsen, renters are struggling more than homeowners, report says

Have them throw a can of soup at a painting to raise awareness

match ,
@match@pawb.social avatar

Soup for my family…

explodicle ,

What’s that from?

afraid_of_zombies ,

It’s the new thing privileged people are doing. Throwing soup at paintings in art gallerias in Europe. They target ones that are behind glass, “just a prank bro”. Anyway it’s all a ploy so they can “raise” awareness about the Whales, Tibet, or Firefly being cancelled or whatever cause de celebre is hot this week.

Actually solving issues is difficult and slow. Throwing stuff is easy and makes you feel good about yourself. And in the end, only the feelings of the children of privilege matter.
