Maui’s firefighting efforts may have been hampered by limited staff and equipment.
Bobby Lee, president of the Hawaii Firefighters Association, said there are a maximum of 65 county firefighters working at any given time, who are responsible for three islands: Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
“It’s not that people didn’t try to do anything,” Curran said. “The fire went from zero to 100.” Curran said he had seen horrendous wildfires growing up in California.
But, he added, “I’ve never seen one eat an entire town in four hours.”
I’m sure those designer bags and clothing will be a nutritious meal for dozens of starving families struggling to get by. Goddamn ridiculous.
NBC Los Angeles reports that they used bear spray on the guard(s) (OP’s article mentions one, NBC states two) in case anyone’s curious. Not something I’d recommend trying more than once, hope they’re doing all right.
I recognize that goods can be sold, yes. I stand by my comment though, this was a shitty thing to do and unfortunately, internet sarcasm and sympathy for the victims is all I have to offer.
The police are a street gang and if the violence they impose ever aligns with the law that is, at best, a happy coincidence. They’re hired thugs designed to protect power and property from people. One thousand three hundred and twelve
At one point, a security guard who tried to intervene was attacked with a chemical spray

Hmm so it’s a choice between the guy whose son didn’t pay his taxes on time and bought a gun when he wasn’t supposed to vs. the guy who is currently indicted in 3 soon to be 4 instances of among other things compromising classified documents and working to overthrow the government he happened to be leading at the time.
Add to it the gun law was declared unconstitutional by the fifth circuit Court of appeals recently, it’s likely the only charges he’ll be facing are tax related. It’s funny because the gun charge was the only thing holding back his plea deal.
