Don’t be a moron. He’s out on bail for the same reason police get it, if you put and judge or cop in prison they get murdered. If they aren’t guilty that’s a huge fucking risk, it’s the same for pretty much anyome but not everyone plays for the same team.
Since it seems like you’re new to the internet then, you shouldn’t put information that makes you easily identifiable right there in your username.
Also, the number 88 is used as a dog whistle by neo-nazis, so that other neo-nazis on social media know who to support without the trauma and physical pain of thinking for themselves.
But now we’ve sorted the 88 part out, what about the ‘Atticus’ bit? It’s such an uncommon name. In fact, the only ‘Atticus’ I can think of it fictional former rights activist turned pro-segregation racist Atticus Finch.
this is a bit inaccurate. The guy saying it’s a problem for biden is a republican(as in… former ethics advisor to W.)
Biden’s son’s criminal issues won’t sway democrats or swing voters away. because most people are seeing the lengths they’re going… and so far the only evidence they have on things is decades-old-crimes that most rich people would have just had to pay a bribe to get out of.
republicans are stupid enough think this whataboutism- the vast majority of which wouldn’t stand up in any semi-legitimate courtroom anyhow- is enough to save trump. and it’s simply not.
take solace in knowing that it’s not actually half the population.
a fair number are just straight up assholes. Like the Koch family. who find it’s more cost effective to buy off legislators (and trump,) to deregulate than it is to not fucking pollute the world. Or, that pastor who just got bought off by DeSantis for votes, that are actively telling their people to vote for him in iowa. for about 90k?
Counterpoint, it won’t “hang over” Joe’s reelection bid because he’s not the one on trial. The article even quotes someone pointing out that voters don’t care about guilt by association in a situation like this.
Honestly, if he was running and I had the right to vote, I would probably vote for him over the two other guys. And I don't have a problem with his father.
I’m sure they’re hoping it cleans the air of people telling them to “do something” about “climate change” and let them get back to giving huge giveaways to oil companies.
Seriously, I might be wrong but last I knew carbon capture tech wasn’t anywhere near good enough. How long would this thing have to run to do much as break even on the emissions building it caused?
Except that’s not what the article actually says. It says the carbon either goes to make concrete or gets pumped and stored underground. It does not get burned for energy.
I believe most of the victims in these kind of situations die of asphyxiation instead of burning to death. I thin it’s less painful, still a great tragedy.
If you recall from 9/11, many people made the decision to jump from those buildings, rather that get burned to death. And by “decision”, I mean something fundamentally primal, and not a rational human being weighing the odds.
The drive to survive is strong in us. Fire is I believe at the top of the hierarchy of motivators deeply woven into our brain to avoid.
As another poster said regarding this particular thread, those people very likely succumbed to smoke inhalation before being burned. Not a great comfort, but it sounds preferable to being conscious and aware when the fire closes in.
… I think it’s time to go look at videos of kittens and puppies now.
And the SCOTUS ruled that student debt can’t be forgiven, so that’s one factor already gone thanks to Trumps SCOTUS nominees (don’t forget, Trump got THREE conservative nominees in)
Also I’ve met so many boomers in my life who have summer homes, vacation homes, winter homes, homes that are not even used for half the year, it’s absolutely insane. The real estate market in this country is completely unhinged
“We thought we were being set up,” Meyer said about the confidential information.
Holy crap. If that theory is correct, the "anonymous tip" was to give the newspaper a reason to pull up everything they could find on Newell, and then make this digging look like identity theft. They may have even committed actual identity theft as part of this plan, hoping to pin the crime on the journalists at the paper. If Newell is not playing a role in this, they could have been trying to destroy two careers with one stone and winded up pitting these parties against each other.
I didn't pass it off as anything else, not sure what your point is. The comment section is to discuss thoughts and ideas on the article. It's a theory regarding why an entire police force could have come after a newspaper with what appear to be illegal and extreme tactics that resulted in the traumatization and death of its co-owner. Good thing this is being investigated so we can find out if something so immoral was behind their actions.
It was higher in Paradise for sure. They stopped reporting more bodies found after the initial count. I’m friends with a couple of locals that worked on the cleanup crews, and they personally had to stop and call the owners of multiple houses about bodies, and they had no idea who would’ve been there. Probably transients or anyone looking for shelter.
I’m from paradise. We counted ~83 crosses on the outside of town just a few weeks after, and they were all named, iirc. So there’s absolutely more than that. Paradise was 25,000 and at one point, I delivered pizzas. I found areas of paradise I had no idea existed and I had lived there since I was in 5th grade.
I might have a picture of those crosses in my Google photos. Gimme a sec.
Agreed. It’s just two billionaires desperate for attention. The only thing that could possibly be more pathetic than this is the literal slapfight that would take place between them.
Corporations should not own single family housing. There is zero reason housing should continue to increase like it does.
Go onto Zillow. Look how much the house was originally built for, throw that into an inflation calculator and be shocked at how we’re being ripped off.
And now on top of being ripped off, interest rates are ridiculous.
There is not a shortage of housing, corporations are buying them up and either sitting on them or renting them out at high rates.
The same corporations buying up housing are buying up apartment complexes. I know in my area many of them are at less than 20% full and they’re still charging $1500 a month for a 1 bedroom. They’re artificially driving up prices putting a stranglehold on the economy.
If Americans didn’t have to throw most of their paycheck towards housing (or education or healthcare) the whole country would be in much better shape. Inflation wouldn’t hit as hard, we could put more money into savings and actually retire, extra money for travel or things that make us happy.
It seems like such a simple solution, maybe I’m wrong but something needs to change.
There is no reason for a large private rental market to exist. You don’t even have to ban private landlords, just make them compete with the most cost-effective provider: the state. Governments can borrow cheaper than any landlord and rent out indefinitely, turning a surplus (aka profit) at a fraction of private rents.
I’ve been watching a lot of not just bikes and YouTubers like that.
The suburbs aren’t event sustainable. They only exist because the government funds a shit load of money into them to make them work. They weren’t sustainable at the start and they aren’t now. Now the money is drying up it’s a fucked up asset to have in a city because you still need to fund them
How come they don’t have fire fighting boats in Maui? They have all the water in the Pacific Ocean, but no way to spray it on the fire? Hasn’t that tech existed for like 100 years?
I’m guessing wildfires aren’t that common on Hawaii, outside of those sparked by volcanic eruptions. They might just not have the experience a place like California has (and even there you’ll see the government misjudge a situation with catastrophic consequences).
This should be something no one cares about. It should be that we all agree not to give these clowns the attention they demand from us-
But no. Instead, everyone will devour it like the dumbasses they are- all without knowing that they’re giving those two millions more dollars just to watch this disaster on pay-per-view.
Idiocracy isn’t a warning of how things will be if we don’t change- it’s a god damned documentary of how things are.
I don’t want to see anything involving that douche. The sun we he disappears into irrelevance, the better. And this bullshit is insuring that doesn’t happen.
Yeah, it’s sort of like the U.S. election. I wasn’t rooting for Biden, I was hoping Trump would be gone. So in this situation, I’m not rooting for Zuckerberg, I’m just looking forward to Musk getting his face caved in.
