What’s the point of the reenactment? Peterson was a coward, that’s clear, and the court already gave him a pass for being a coward, so why even pretend to care and do tests and reenactments
The fact that the sanctity of such a place must be enshrined into law in order for capitalists to abstain from raping it tells you everything you need to know about the system.
Questions like: Who is OpenAI and how does live in my telephone? Can OpenAI serve me crackers, also what day is it? Why does OpenAI suggest Furry porn when I google furry porn?
Lawmakers, most lawmakers, barely remember to take their medications much less have the mental capacity to understand what AI or LLMs are. It’s laughable/frightening to think our congressional octogenarians are writing laws and restrictions on anything pertaining to technology.
Shit. I work in the nuclear industry and I wasn’t aware of this. Thanks for sharing. The mistreatment and sheer disrespect shown to native people by corporations and government is one of the major stains on US history.
Self serve drives up gas prices due to insurance. Insurance goes up due to a couple of people smoking while filling gas and gas station without anyone being the favorite place for looters. The self serve campaigns advertise how gas will come down due to it, but it actually goes up. So question is who you want to pay - insurance companies or min wage employees...
Oregon has the fourth most expensive gas by state. New Jersey is pretty high up there, although admittedly cheaper than its neighbors by a few cents. I would doubt that full vs. self service has any real impact on gas prices
That's interesting. I've seen all kinds of people you wouldn't tip elsewhere routinely be tipped in the USA. So I assumed as someone performing a service they would be included.
I used to pump gas in NJ at a Wawa. I got paid around $9 an hour in the early 2000s. At Wawa at least, the gas attendants get paid the same as the inside staff.
The reason West Coast states have expensive gas is that there are no pipelines connecting them to the rest of the countr, specifically Texas. Washington and Oregon produce zero crude oil. California can’t produce enough for the whole West Coast so a majority of oil has to be shipped by a more inefficient way, causing prices to go up. This is reflected by the fact the 4 most expensive states for gas are California, Washington, Hawaii and Oregon.
I live in the UK and for as long as I can remember and probably considerably before that (and I'm not young) fuel has been self service.
I also have seen plenty of people smoking and using phones (surely the bigger danger is backfiring cars though). You know I cannot recall a single news story about a fuel station exploding due to this. I reckon that's the kind of story that makes it onto the news. Not to say it never happens, but with the amount of fuel pumped daily, I'd expect it to be a common event yet I cannot recall a single time I heard about it happening.
So, feels like insurance companies fear mongering stations into higher payments to me. Sure it's possible, but highly unlikely.
Because it is bull. A cigarette doesn’t burn hot enough to light gas on fire. If anything it would be the wood matches, you know that thing no one has anymore. There is a reason why sailors are allowed to smoke on tankers.
The rare station around me that offers full service, is always more expensive, usually 10-15 cents per liter (40-60 cents per gallon). So that logic doesn’t hold up.
If this were true, full-service gas stations would be common in places where they’re not mandated by law because it would be cheaper and more profitable for the owners. They are not.
From the US DOT “FlyRights” page (which is woefully inadequate):
Some flights are delayed on the airport “tarmac” before taking off or after landing. DOT rules prohibit most U.S. airlines from allowing a domestic flight to remain on the tarmac for more than three hours unless:
the pilot determines that there is a safety or security reason why the aircraft cannot taxi to the gate and deplane its passengers, or
Air traffic control advises the pilot that taxiing to the gate (or to another location where passengers can be deplaned) would significantly disrupt airport operations.
U.S. airlines operating international flights to or from most U.S.airports must each establish and comply with their own limit on the length of tarmac delays on those flights. On both domestic and international flights, U.S. airlines must provide passengers with food and water no later than two hours after the tarmac delay begins. While the aircraft remains on the tarmac lavatories must remain operable and medical attention must be available if needed.
Hurray! And then, if we can all stop pretending that pregnancy is magic and babies are awesome, maybe mothers will feel less monstrous when they’re struggling and more willing to seek help.
Pregnancy and mothering an infant was the hardest and worst extended period in my life - I’ve had individual, shorter worse experiences, but that was the longest stretch of misery I’ve had. Meanwhile, people were telling me that I should savor every moment because it just gets harder! 🤦😂 I can laugh about that now, but jfc did it make me suicidal to think that!
If you’re suffering through that period too and surrounded by people telling you how awesome it is - maybe that was their experience, but it’s totally okay if it isn’t yours, because it wasn’t mine either, but things got better. Once your child can communicate, that lessens the difficulty dramatically. And if you ever wanna bitch to a sympathetic mom who is open about the shitshow it all can be, I am here for it. ❤️
I’m sorry you had to go through that. Totally agree with you about the whole thing. I was a happy oblivious dad to be, right up to the point where we lost the little bean. Nobody told me that a LOT of pregnancies turn out to be a dud. If I knew beforehand, I would’ve been better prepared. Alas, I was not prepared and it broke my heart. There’s a whole other side to pregnancies. When can we finally be realistic about it? That would be so helpful for all new moms and dads.
Thank you, kind internet person. I wish you all the best. Hopefully we can do small things in our communities to spread some knowledge and help those around us to deal with these things. ❤️
I hope that jack Smith had this as part of his strategic plan and knew this was coming. I really want to believe that he actually does have 9 dimensional chess abilities like the media has been reporting, but the media…
“Free” in the sense that the state(s) cannot interfere with what is taught. It’s the same meaning of “free” as in “land of the free”, not as in “free beer”.
However, all public tuition (primary school, secondary school, and universities) really is free as in “free beer”. Only kindergarten and private schools aren’t.
I’m literally an educator, I understand the value in a base nation wide curricula - that doesn’t mean we aren’t given freedom to focus on learners needs.
And frankly nearly everything America does is fucked up in some way or another, hardly an indictment for or against pursuing something.
Not to mention the fact that Germany apparently does have some restrictions in place shows that I’m right.
You’ve encouraged me to look into this further. Apparently, I interpreted these freedoms wrong. They seem (in my limited undestanding) to be more about research and university teaching than “regular” schools. That is, researches can look into anything they want, but teachers can’t teach whatever they want.
There are curriculums, issued by the individual states, that are binding for schools and teachers. This should’ve told me immediately that education can’t be as free as I thought.
I agree with you that there should be “minimums in educational curriculum”. There’s an ongoing debate that education should be more standardized across the states, but as it is now, even different schools within the same state have different exams that are not all equally difficult to pass.
Luckily, article 5, paragraph 3 has two senteces: " The arts, sciences, research and education are free. The freedom of education does not release from the loyalty to the constitution"
Improtantly, article 5, paragraph 3 has two senteces: " The arts, sciences, research and education are free. The freedom of education does not release from the loyalty to the constitution"
Furthermore, this freedom of “research and education” means “scientific research and education” and thus primarily prohibits the German state of deciding what is researched and thaugt at universities. There are state mandated curricula for all public schools.
I drove through Oregon and that threw me off when I was at the gas pump. What a weird law. Someone must have super fucked up to get that law pushed in the first place lol.
