This is to stop everyone who has Re-Wheeled their boards. They did win a cease and desist to have the Re-Wheel software removed from the web by the author, but there are versions that still exist. I rewheeled a pint recently, and if I update that board, it will loose the modifications. FM is just up to their usual game of locking down their boards so folks can’t mess with them. I’ll be getting a Float Wheel when my XR finally dies.

TitanLaGrange ,

What does that do?

For thr pint, I was able to set the pushback to XR style so the board top speed is much higher.

She taught English to freshmen and sophomores and made about $42,000 last year, according to the newspaper’s public pay database. She said she’s earned an additional $8,000 to $10,000 per month performing on OnlyFans.

The fact that teachers have to do porn to survive is telling that conservative society is fucked.

Tygr , in The ‘terrifying’ trade-offs millions of Americans face as student loan repayments resume

3 years to make principal-only payments to get ahead of a debt they agreed to repay.

Instead, now their debt will grow faster than their mandatory minimum payments.

Yes, my daughter and son did use the time to pay theirs off and in great careers.

Personal responsibility? Commence the downvotes.

kaitco ,

I mean…I still owe $8K and I spent the last three years paying directly to the principal as well. That said, I still hate this. Rather than being able to pay off in another year or so, it’s going to be closer to five years.

There’s options available. Like, how about a “step up” rather than just reopening the floodgates? Turn on the repayments, but not the interest. How about keep the interest off the last $20K if you’re not in the rears? Allow people to get a chance to make progress on their debts, or at least give an incentive on keeping the payments current.

A direct return to the status quo doesn’t get lenders their money in a time of rising rates, and it definitely doesn’t help those in debt nor the overall economy.

jasory ,

“Allow people to get a chance”

They had 3 years… before that it was expected that they would make payments. Are you under the impression that everyone took out these loans thinking that they would never have to pay them back?

SCB ,

So do you not understand who has the most trouble paying off this debt or what’s up?

Most high-risk student loan debt is held by college dropouts. People who went to college, it wasn’t for them (or life intervened), and they had to leave college - with the debt and without the benefit.

We as a society urge students to go to college because having a highly educated workforce is a good thing. This is an externality we created and it behooves us to resolve this externality socially.

The question of “personal responsibility” is, as is so often the case, irrelevant when discussing governance. You don’t govern for the best case scenario, you govern to address externalities.

jasory ,

I like how you add information that I never critiqued. The point is that claiming that having 3 years of minimal payments is somehow not a reprieve from the previous circumstances, is utterly false.

If you want to argue for free university, then fine do it. But do it from the very beginning, don’t tack it on to some vaguely related initial comment.

“The question of personal responsibility is irrelevant in governance”

I actually agree, it’s where I think conservatives fail. Where liberals fail is ascribing moral blame for personal decisions on others. When someone makes a conscious personal decision to take risk, you can’t just blame society for when they individually have an unsatisfactory outcome. (It’s the same shit we get when we ask how society failed all those poor mass shooters).

Now of course this entire post was an individualistic claim, so maybe you can see why I didn’t start with a federal policy critique.

Goo_bubbs ,

Fuck off

The_v ,

Personal responsibility gets all screwed up by math. I know school was a long time ago for you but you can use a calculator.

I graduated over 20 years ago. I paid for it all by myself as I was on my own at 17. My schools annual tuition/fees books was around 3.5K. Lodging/utilities/etc cost me $5,000 (roommates and no car). So a total of around $8.5K/year. I worked 25hrs per week at $7.25/hr for a gross income of around $9,400. I ended up $3K in debt. It took me 5 years to pay it off after I graduated. I started out at $27K.

My sons a sophomore this year at a the same school. Tuition is 9.7K lodging/utilities, etc around $14,000/year. So around $23.7K/year. Minimum wage in the state just went to $13.20. At 25hrs per week this is a gross income of $17K.

So my son would end up $30k+ in debt doing the exact same thing I did.

I start out my career making 27K with 3K in debt. Only 11% of my gross . Itwasn’t that hard to pay it off and was never a major concern.

My son would start out making around 45k/year with more than 30K in debt. 66% of his gross income.

jasory ,

Nothing you said supported your thesis statement.

Personal responsibility is choosing to take on debt and then paying it off. The money amounts are not relevant, especially not a difference as small as you presented. Even the fact of it being a college loan doesn’t matter, any sort of investment borrowing would apply.

AlecSadler ,

You can fuck right off.

derf82 , in Inside the cult of Buc-ee’s: How a Texas gas station became the people’s pump | CNN

I worked at a brand new Sheetz when I was in college. We started out great, but once the scheduling software took over, it went to crap fast. Cleaning was side work, so it was always rushed, if you had any time at all. Since the restrooms were mostly unattended, they quickly got disgusting (and I swear some people take perverse pleasure in where they could smear their poo). People would order food, wait 10 minutes, and walk out as we would get too busy to keep up. We had a bakery section that started great, but went to crap because no one had time to bake.

Buc-ee’s seems well staffed, including dedicated staff to keep the bathrooms clean. There is dedicated staff for the brisket. There is dedicated shelf stockers. It’s amazing how stuff will get and stay popular when you actually have staff to serve customers.

Translation error from me from German. I meant tabloids.

    WHYAREWEALLCAPS ,

There is no “but still”. Here’s the thing about language - it is constantly changing. Words change their meanings all the time. I cannot go to the 18th century and use modern vernacular and not be misunderstood, nor could I go to the 22nd century and use it and not be misunderstood. Quit acting like English is some static thing that hasn’t changed. You’re showing exactly how ignorant and uneducated you really are, even without having to use such an ignorant term as “rainbow press”.

    Norgur ,

Wow. Really nice. Thing is, English is not my native language and I therefore am
    A) influenced by my native language when it comes to the more nuanced meanings of words
    B) speak without the set of ideas in mind you seem to have attributed me with because I literally do not belong into your political system
    C) made a translation error with the term "rainbow press" for tabloids because
    D) English is not my native language
    E) have not made any political statement or anything to be opposed that strongly

But yeah, calling a foreigner "uneducated" for being not on the same page as you regarding the evolution of words in your language is a really educated move, good Sir. I, the lowly foreign peasant bow before your superior education, good Sir. I am so sorry, good Sir...

    ech ,
    1. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source.
    Neon ,

applying rules without thinking why those rules exist makes you an idiot. And in this case it leads to confusion and US-Defaultism.

you could have done it like r/convenientcop and put in a [USA] title goes here for example. And that’s just an Idea that i came up with in less than a Second. I am sure there are other elegant ways to solve it.

    ech ,

Well I didn’t make the post, so no, I couldn’t have. Also, if you have a problem with the rules, take it up with the mods instead of harassing the posters about it. Thirdly, nothing about the post suggested “us-defaultism”. Nobody assumed anything, they just posted the article. That you can’t be bothered to read the article or even look at the source before lashing out suggests you need to look into a mirror before calling others idiots.

    Neon ,

You as in the french “on” or the german “man”, not tu/du

Hilarious you’re calling me an idiot when you don’t even know “you” can have multiple meanings

And again: I don’t have a Problem with rules, as long as you think while applying them and aren’t just blindly following the literal words like an idiot

Well, Rule 4 says, “4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source.” And the source didn’t put the country in the title.

    Thekingoflorda ,
    @Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world avatar

This indeed raises an important issue with our current rules. I will be discussing a potential change to those rules with other mods to make it more clear that, if the article isn’t very clear, you are allowed to alter the title (within reason).

If you could edit the title to make clear this is about the US, that would be great (:

    Sorry for the confusion.

    TheOneWithTheHair OP ,

    Thekingoflorda ,
    @Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world avatar

    Yes, thank you very much.

    Cethin ,

The rule should probably be that it’s required to be as descriptive or more as the title of the article. If you want to edit out click-bait, that should be allowed. As long as it’s still just as descriptive it should be fine. (I understand this would be hard to enforce though.)
