FatherGascown , in J.K. Rowling, Elon Musk Named in Imane Khelif's Cyberbullying Lawsuit

Y’all don’t even know what fascism is, and still keep using that word. Typical 'murica shit. That is not fascism, that is called having an opinion, however shitty it is. This kind of shit borders on censorship, and again, I want to underline that I don’t like either of them or their opinion.

liara ,

Opinion? Try again. It’s called slander.

4lan ,

Slander: “the action or **crime **of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person’s reputation.”

go back to truth social where they teach about how the world is flat

jhymesba ,

You’re wrong. I suspect that’s not an uncommon occurrence for you and that your reaction will be the typical factless rant you people are really known for.

Fascism is all about demonising the ‘other’. It doesn’t care about truth and facts as long as there are enemies, external and internal, to scapegoat. Khelif is just a good boxer. Do you really think Algeria of all places would cover for a transgender female throughout her entire life, from childhood to when she got her Algerian passport that lists her as female through the ‘revelation’ that she was somehow male after beating down a Russian Oligarch’s undefeated prize fighter? No, but since the BS is out there, Reich-Wing authoritarian shitheads are harping on it to further their stupid fears that there are Transgenders EVERYWHERE.

And I agree with the others. This goes beyond opinion to slander. It’s Fascism because in this case, the slander is furthering the idea that transgendered people are somehow evil and wrong and must be opposed by all means … by attacking an Algerian who was assigned female at birth. Fuck off with that bullshit.

Martinphipps ,

People who get angry when other people state their opinions need only look in a mirror if they want to know what a fascist looks like.

Ok, so now that’s Japan, EU, UK and Brazil that hate elon’s guts. He’s gonna start to run out of democracies to fuck with, will he move on to dictators or is that friendly fire?

Phoenicianpirate ,

He will not mess with dictators. Because in those countries he can get anything he wants just by bribing a few people. Not so in democracies.

wjrii , in Liz Truss leaves stage over ‘I crashed the economy’ lettuce banner

Sounds like she’s so toxic even to Tories that she perceives her only political future is on the far right. She’s still Liz Truss though, so she won’t even be any particular leader in that sphere, just a show pony to trot out as a convert, and maybe to hide in the back office if they actually gain enough power to have to do something administratively complex.

dumples , in Americans are becoming less religious. None more than this group

Having religion in politics has ruined both. It makes politicians uncompromising since they believe they have God on their side and thus people they disagree with as the devil. This forces those within a church to decide on their values and their church. This drives people out of the church until only the craziest remain. This was inevitable and they both deserve it

Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.”

Gork , in ‘You feel like you’re suffocating’: Florida outdoor workers are collapsing in the heat without water and shade

From one of the disgusting opinion pieces linked in the Guardian article, written by a corpo douchebag.

But the route to continued progress is critical, and a recent misstep by Miami-Dade County could result in an existential crisis for two of the county’s largest industries: agriculture and construction.

Existential? Ten minute water breaks every two hours will cause an existential crisis? Bullshit.

Proponents point to increased heat incidents in the community, but offer no evidence that ties those occurrences to being work-related or work-caused, let alone related to the agriculture and construction industries.

It’s pretty self evident that working outside in hot conditions, at the requirement of your employer, is by definition a work related activity.

Our industries never were approached by the proposals supporters or its commission sponsors before it was introduced.

Because you all would say no? This argument reeks of corporate entitlement.

it creates a new county “heat police” department funded by the fines they issue on our companies.

Regulation without enforcement is toothless. Also it isn’t like these companies like these constantly skirt regulations anyway and get hit with minor fines that might as well be considered the cost of doing business.

Proponents claim this ordinance will help build stronger agriculture and construction industries here. In reality, it will only wear them down and tear them apart.

Heat-striken workers are less productive, which has much more of an impact than 0.8 hours water breaks over the course of an entire day.

Samvega OP ,

When punishing the poor is more important than productivity.

anon6789 , in Trump campaign forced to pay North Carolina city $82k in advance for rally
@anon6789@lemmy.world avatar

the campaign paid in advance due to Asheville’s policy for short-notice bookings

This makes it sound more like coincidence than the city actually doing anything about Trump being a deadbeat.

Not complaining, since that is a fair policy to have, but it doesn’t sound like anyone is “sticking it to him” like the article makes it sound.

While it would be improper to prohibit Trump to speak just because he is crap, if he is a known deadbeat, I don’t know why some of these places don’t pass an amendment to prohibit anyone renting space while they currently have past due fees. If Trump or whoever it may be stiffs the city, it’s the residents picking up that loss, which is unfair to everyone.

ccunning OP ,

I actually put this paragraph in the description of the original post:

While the campaign paid in advance due to Asheville’s policy for short-notice bookings, Trump has a long history of failing to paycities for billed rally fees, leaving the White House in January 2021 with at least $850,000 in unpaid rally debt. Most of the bills are still unpaid, including more than $500,000 owed to the city of El Paso, Texas.

…but I guess the description doesn’t get included in crossposts (at least for some clients).

Not complaining, since that is a fair policy to have, but it doesn’t sound like anyone is “sticking it to him” like the article makes it sound.

I think the article is fair, but the headline is misleading.

EnderMB , in Donald Trump says he will flee to Venezuela if he loses election [Newsweek]

As a former President, can he?

I’m not American, but my assumption was that the President’s role was one for life, in that he will always have a presidential security detail with him, and while he can travel abroad it’s probably only to countries with good diplomatic ties with the US.

A former President moving outside of a friendly jurisdiction could be a huge security issue that he couldn’t just wave away.

tacosanonymous ,

He can do anything he wants. There are rules they follow for decorum, receiving security briefings, and retaining secret service protection.

EnderMB ,

If Trump were to move to Venezuela, for example, I can’t imagine that they would support him both living there, potentially interfering as a man of influence, and retaining what is essentially a foreign militia on his grounds.

I’m sure that he could do what he wants by US rules, especially since there’s probably no written rule somewhere that a former president can’t just move abroad to retire, but what countries would afford him that kind of freedom, knowing that he supported a coup in his own country?
