It was a great destroyer… But it sank… So now it’s a glorious submarine!

Yewb , in 'How am I in this war?': New Musk biography offers fresh details about the billionaire's Ukraine dilemma

Lol what type of fucking photoshopped image nonsense is this?

That looks nothing like him at all.

phoneymouse ,

It’s almost a cliche format at this point. All Silicon Valley “visionaries” have an image like this at some point:

allthingsd.com/…/Steve-Jobs-Cover-with-Credit-emb…

asteriskeverything ,

That’s fair because the article sounds nothing like him either.

dethb0y , in Grindr loses nearly half its staff to strict return-to-work rule

Just think of the money saved in severance by them quitting instead of being fired, which is probably the plan all along.

jimmylongbawlz ,

Never quit, make them fire you.

nobodyspecial ,
@nobodyspecial@kbin.social avatar

This is the plan, but it's always a bad one. The people hopping jobs are the top performers, ones with marketable resumes that get snapped up even in a weak market. The ones forced to remain either feel less marketable or are less marketable for a number of reasons.

It's extreme short term thinking that leads to both morale and performance issues sooner than leadership expects.

bloodfoot ,

Sure but the high performers are usually the first ones out the door. That’s arguably gonna cost them more in the long run but who cares about the long run when this quarter’s profits are so high.

Franzia ,

This is often, but not always, Constructive Dismissal. When it is, workers are entitled to severance but need to jump through some hoops with the NLRB to get that money.

Pat12 , in Walmart cuts starting hourly pay for some workers

I once listened to someone who managed a walmart-esque store complain how to get their cashiers who earned slightly above minimum wage to go above and beyond their required duties

Potatos_are_not_friends , in Brett Kavanaugh says justices are working on ‘concrete steps’ on ethics

Really? Crying beer man who got everything handed to him on a silver platter who when for the first time in his life was questioned, broke down in tears?

pimento64 , in Walmart cuts starting hourly pay for some workers

The only cutting that Walmart needs is senior executives’ necks. With a guillotine.

Let's just do it to all the rich and their cronies

Death_Equity ,

I’m not saying you aren’t right, but maybe we should just financially decapitate them? That way we aren’t killing people wholesale and then we can send a message as well as distribute some wealth with sanity bereft of toxic capitalism.

Maybe a flat tax rate with no deductions for business or corporate income, no personal income tax, top paid income tied to the lowest paid, and 90% of backend profits distributed to employees based on a percentage of payroll expense for the fiscal year?

I mean it might take a falling blade to get there, but the best omelettes need a few broken eggs.

Can guarantee the tower guard was on his phone. Literally the most prized post in any prison is tower guard for that reason.

PopcornPlayaa_ , in First Lady tests positive for COVID

Wasn’t she vaxxed like 30 times by now? How in the world could she have gotten Covid!?

TastyWheat ,

The same way you can wear a seat belt but still crash your car.

TvanBuuren ,

Never heard this one, but I’m using it from now on…

PopcornPlayaa_ ,

Seatbelts don’t prevent accidents. Vaccines prevent infection (except for the covid vaccine)

art ,
@art@lemmy.world avatar

You’ve had 3 years to understand how the vaccine works. We’re you just not paying attention?

PopcornPlayaa_ ,

Vaccines have been around a lot longer than 3 years…

art ,
@art@lemmy.world avatar

And yet you still don’t know that vaccines don’t stop you from getting a virus. They only limit the damage they can do.

PopcornPlayaa_ ,

Normal vaccines are used to immunize people against a disease.

Immunize means make (a person or animal) resistant to a particular infectious disease or pathogen, typically by vaccination.

The only “vaccine” that”limits the damage” is the covid vax. I got it twice and still ended up with covid. My brother had it to and his was just as mild and he wasnt vaxxed.

The idea that it limits the damage is questionable at best.

I’m all ears though, show me data and i’d consider your viewpoint but I just dont think it exists…

PopcornPlayaa_ ,

Any response?

dogslayeggs , in Pennsylvania inmate escaped by crab-walking up a prison wall, video shows

I wouldn’t call that crab walking, mostly because I’ve never seen a crab walk like that. As kids we called it wall climbing. Climbers call it chimneying. While it isn’t incredibly difficult, it does take training and strength to pull off as smoothly as this.

exploding_whale ,

I just imagine this is the inmate when I read the headline. https://media.tenor.com/BYhIK0pYsYsAAAAd/voldo-soul-calibur.gif

BarrelAgedBoredom , in Some small towns in America are disbanding police forces, citing hiring woes

This would be a good opportunity to try out some sort of volunteer community defense system and crisis intervention units. Both would be far more cost effective. If it were arranged appropriately to make volunteers accountable, it’d be a lot safer than traditional policing
