Ensign_Crab , in In Rare Alliance, Democrats and Republicans Seek Legal Power to Clear Homeless Camps

In unsurprising alliance, Democrats agree with Republicans about the poor.

Again.

The democrats are the right wing of capital, with the Republicans as the far right wing of capital.

The tent cities suck, but maybe first try tackling the cause of them rather than arresting everyone?

dragonflyteaparty , in The Supreme Court will take up abortion and gun cases in its new term while ethics concerns swirl

So about abortion being a states rights matter? That was just a joke, huh?

affiliate ,

it’s up to the states, but only a select few states like florida and texas.

radioactiveradio , in Disney+ to Crack Down on Password Sharing in Canada

Is Canada like a weapon x program site? Or do they think they can get away with it cuz people are polite there? Every company tries stupid shit in Canada first.

Clear homeless camps by helping them integrate in society, right? Right?

Nope this is the year they dismantle everything just in time for Trump to overthrow our government. We need to impeach and remove all traitors from our government. When do we say enough is enough and bring out the Guillotines, Pitchforks, and Torches?

queermunist ,

We aren’t organized enough to act before it’s too late 😞

Fredselfish ,
@Fredselfish@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah hard to do that when almost half the country is begging for the dictatorship and loving the boot on their neck.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

That still leaves more than half that don’t.

Yet there don’t seem to be organizations seriously preparing for the end of democracy.

I suspect it’s because anyone that was serious would be infiltrated by law enforcement.

BombOmOm ,
@BombOmOm@lemmy.world avatar

The US has withstood vastly harder times than this. We are hardly at the ‘end of democracy’.

It’s not the 1800s anymore, everything happens a lot faster these days.

And going from “contested election” to “civil war” wouldn’t take long at all.

Ilovethebomb , in California governor rejects bill to give unemployment checks to striking workers

Well yeah, if you have a job but refuse to do it, you’re not unemployed.

QHC , in The police chief who led a raid of a small Kansas newspaper has been suspended

Honest question, what structures or authorities exist outside of the city level to investigate something like this? Is it all down to what the mayor decides, or can the Kansas governor or state patrol launch an investigation? What about federal agencies like the FBI?

I could be misremembering, but from the original story it sounded like the mayor was likely tied up in the motivation for the original raid. Not surprising for a small town, really. Once you get down to a few hundred people, there’s only so many businesses and families to go around.

j4k3 , in Congress passes stopgap bill to avert shutdown ahead of midnight deadline
@j4k3@lemmy.world avatar

The US credit rating should drop from this and it should happen every time these fascist radicals do anything. This stupid bullshit is criminal. Copy Australia, if they can’t do their job, everyone loses their job and we start over with all new elected representatives.

Why are any fellow Americans stupid enough to vote Republican? I just don’t get it. This is the party that only benefits billionaires and its powerbase comes from the poorest and shittiest places in the country. Like why don’t these people realize the ruse? It is shitty be cause it is Republican.

TransplantedSconie ,

30 plus years of brainwashing from Fawx News is what happened.

Varyk ,

Our credit rating dropped in August, and I completely agree that it should continue to drop.

As for how people continually vote Republican in this country, you have very poor education coupled with a jingoist culture positively trained to unsustainably pay tribute to corporate worship. The 'pubs stoke and prey on those two basic fears and bully or trick the less aware and more fearful members of American society into voting for them.

3L54 , in Transgender minors in Nebraska, their families and doctors brace for a new law limiting treatment

”Only those minors who have shown “a long-lasting and intense pattern of gender nonconformity or gender dysphoria” would be allowed to start puberty blocking or hormone treatment, and only under a set of guidelines to be drafted by the state’s newly appointed chief medical officer, Dr. Timothy Tesmer.”

Sounds fairly reasonable to me. We are not the smartest as teens nor do we have the capacity to make life lasting decisions. In my opinion minors should be treated as minors.

worldwidewave ,

Legislating how people use their bodies is wholly wrong. It is not the place of any government to tell me what I can and cannot do with my body, especially when I’m heeding the medical advice of a doctor.

It is just as wrong to tell me I have to, or can’t, get pregnant. Those decisions belong to me and me alone, and that goes for the other 8 billion people in this world.

You should be vociferously defending that right for yourself.

DadWagonDriver ,

So you would repeal laws that prevent 12 year Olds from getting tattoos?

SheeEttin ,

If there is a valid medical reason for it, yes.

worldwidewave ,

Like the other guy said. If a doctor said my child was far more likely to commit suicide without a tattoo, and they could live their fullest and truest lives as themselves tatted up, you bet your ass I’d take that kid to get a tattoo.

Am I the villain here?

DadWagonDriver ,

I’m just going off your first sentence: “Legislating how people use their bodies is wholly wrong.”

Now you’re talking about medical conditions, which means it’s not wholly wrong, it’s conditionally wrong.

worldwidewave ,

Apologies for being ambiguous in the first sentence. You can read the subsequent ones for clarity on my position.

Casey_Masterpiece ,

In this case not making a choice is still a life changing decision. One benefit of puberty blockers I always thought is that allows you to make a decision about it when you’re more mature. It’s the closest thing to not making a life changing decision.

Maeve ,

If we can expect children to birth children, we can expect them to know who they are.

icepuncher69 ,

But… we shouldnt expect them to birth children at such young age either…

Maeve ,

I absolutely agree. My point was to show how ridiculous this is.

match ,
@match@pawb.social avatar

? should kids be allowed to get birth control?

3L54 ,

Everybody should have a right for birth control and abortion without any age limits. I dont really see how thats related to permanently life altering changes being made underaged.

bane_killgrind ,

Yes? Women can start menstruation very young and hormonal birth control helps with regularity and pain.

There’s massive quality of life benefits outside being a contraceptive.

teamevil , in Brain-eating cannibal back in public life after 10 years

Jesus fucking Christ…kill one person “sane” and it’s life but murder mutilation like a death metal album = insanity (which is curable‽) and you’re out in ten years. This country is fucked.
