Inspired by another recent synthwave post here, I thought I’d share a different aspect of the genre. Whereas a lot of synthwave has a dystopian John Carpenter feel to it (which I think is great!), tons of groups sit on the other thematic side of 80s throwback, having a more upbeat John Hughes movie kinda sound....

2Pac may have been a gangsta, but he had feelings too! This is a feminist anthem from Pac, with references to pro-choice politics and what one might call “rape culture”....
They are well known for their occult-themed lyrics in their songs, as well as the way they portray themselves in a distantly tongue-in-cheek manner as a dark, sinister religious sect, commanded by the Emeritus bloodline.
Have this on repeat lately. Earworm to me for some reason, too.
