Oh yeah, I understood this is a pro nuclear meme. I agree with your meme.

Clarke311 OP ,

The number of people who told me that they were against nuclear and wanted to shut down nuclear plants yesterday but can’t comprehend that they will be replaced by coal fire… Inspired this meme. www.cnn.com/2023/04/15/europe/…/index.html

tryptaminev ,

That is bullshit. They are not replaced by coal plants. They are replaced by renewables as can be seen by the percentage of renewable energy in the German grid increasing since. ise.fraunhofer.de/…/german-net-power-generation-i…

Stop lying to peddle your agenda against renewables.

Clarke311 OP ,

Show the rest of the chart. images.app.goo.gl/Dt1xAeP87Bjy6xxV6

tryptaminev ,

how is the chart ranging until 2022 relevant for 2023?

Germany needs to do a lot more to go fully renewable, like all countries need to do. And the conservative government under Merkel has been desastrous for the expansion of renewables.

But claiming that the remaining nuclear power that was shut off now as sheduled would have been replaced by coal is a lie.

Also Merkel didnt decide to exit nuclear in 2022. The decision was made in 2002 with the plan to ramp up renewables. Then Merkel throttled renewables and exited the exit from nuclear power only to exit the exit from the exit two years later. As a result 6 Billion Euros in “compensation” was thrown at the nuclear industry and renewables were not put back on track but left at a low burn.

If we went with the original plan wed be mostly renewable and much cheapr now, but well conservatives and “liberals” always need to fuck things over in favor of fossil industries like nuclear.

Man Getting Hit By Football is a short film about rampant ableism and ageism within Springfield. As we can see with Sherman chastising Homer’s boorish behavior, the film is not a comedy, but Homer is unable to see the film as anything but a comedy due to his rampant ableism and ageism, as repeatedly demonstrated throughout the years with his willful and malicious neglect of Grandpa Simpson.

dustyData , in Uncanny resemblance

I know this may or may not be commonly known. But the lines or stick figures drawn with stars that we come to associate are just a tiny part of the constellation. Sometimes called asterism. The actual constellation is the entirety of all stars that fall between the region. So it’s more the cloud of stars inside the constellation. In the past it was a figure or silhouette. Modern constellations are squarish regions of sky. If you have a clear uncontaminated sky, the figures are still sorta visible to the naked eye.

    can , (edited )

Have you talked to a Canadian in the past 15 years? Tim’s is low tier. Perhaps the bottom. McDonald’s coffee is even leagues ahead. Tim’s changed their bean supplier years ago and I’ve heard McDonald’s now uses it.

    PolarisFx ,
    @PolarisFx@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Kinda, what happened is Tim Hortons used to get their coffee from a supplier that would roast the beans for them, when they were bought out they switched to roasting their own beans which was cheaper.

When McDonald’s entered the market they approached that same supplier and a blend was created for them, its not the same roast as Tim Hortons. But it is a premium roast vs Tim Hortons roasting on the cheap. Which is why Tim Hortons coffee got weaker. McDonald’s coffee is more akin to what Tim Hortons used to be.

That would only make you feel good. It would not make real change.

I’m frustrated that I want to get a full off the grid solar setup but then it’ll cost 25K and won’t really offset itself until 10 years or more. I’ll feel good about being net zero in home energy usage but that is not a cost that the average person can afford.

    Serinus ,

It’ll be more than $25k. A battery alone is $10k, and a 10kw system is more than $25k.

Take a look at a year’s worth of electricity bills to see what size you actually need to hit zero. Consider where a future EV fits in.

    francisfordpoopola ,
    @francisfordpoopola@lemmy.world avatar

I was thinking I want just 4 or 5 kw of storage. Also wanting an electric car to plug in but that’s another coat I’m not ready to dive into. Ugh.

    Serinus ,

Size refers to how many solar panels you have and their efficiency. Try sunroof.withgoogle.com but I think that site undersizes and expects you to pull some from the grid.

It’s perfectly circular, like this man’s dome.

Don’t forget that drug laws are often racist e.g. cocaine possession carries a lesser punishment than crack, cannabis is a schedule 1 substance, etc. This goes some way to explaining the legal rationale.

    olafurp ,

The rest can be found on the Nixon tapes. :)

    sanpedropeddler ,

How is this racist? I don’t doubt that you’re right but I’m not understanding what makes that racist. Are black people significantly more likely to have crack than cocaine or something? At first glance it seems logical to me that cocaine has less of a punishment than crack, but that’s based off of a somewhat limited understanding of the effects of the two drugs.

    mdurell ,

Crack and cocaine are the same drug! From americanaddictioncenters.org/…/differences-with-c…: “Pharmacologically, cocaine and crack are the same substance.”

    TopRamenBinLaden , (edited )

They are the same pharmacologically, but the effects between snorting and smoking vary greatly.

Regular cocaine powder is cocaine hydrochloride. Crack is made by mixing cocaine hydrochloride with ammonia and then burning off the hydrochloride which makes it a freebase. People don’t smoke regular cocaine until it has been turned into freebase. Smoking cocaine powder is just wasteful compared to snorting it.

Smoking crack results in a more rapid absorption into the bloodstream—compared to snorting the powder. Therefore, the effects are more rapid and quicker to dissipate than if someone just snorted cocaine.

Crack is cheaper than powder cocaine, because crack has less cocaine per dose, and is still very potent. So poorer areas get flooded with crack, as no one can afford to be addicted to cocaine powder in the lower class.

So, in conclusion, it is absolutely discriminatory to have harsher punishment for crack than cocaine. Even if crack is more potent, it has less illegal substance in it by weight than cocaine powder does.

It is right in the name.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_cocaine

    tuwwut ,

The racist associations between crack and black people are rumored to actually be an intentional thing. The US government says the allegations have no merit, but the CIA has been accused of funneling large amounts of crack cocaine into the black neighborhoods of LA. Here’s one article about it on a .gov but you can find many other sources on google: THE CIA-CONTRA-CRACK COCAINE CONTROVERSYRelevant quote from the original source accusing them:

For the better part of a decade, a San Francisco Bay Area drug ring sold tons of cocaine to the Crips and Bloods street gangs of Los Angeles and funneled millions in drug profits to a Latin American guerrilla army run by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, a Mercury News investigation has found.

This drug network opened the first pipeline between Colombia’s cocaine cartels and the black neighborhoods of Los Angeles, a city now known as the “crack” capital of the world. The cocaine that flooded in helped spark a crack explosion in urban America . . . and provided the cash and connections needed for L.A.'s gangs to buy automatic weapons.

Hes giving an example of how men on average have a tendency to do higher risk activity. It’s a statistical observation, not an encompassing one. OP is giving a specific example where the statistical observation applies. Higher risk could be smoking, drinking, gambling, driving faster, gambling. You could counter me by showing a statistic where men on average do not engage in higher risk activity.
