Don’t worry I dual boot on my desktop and Linux only on my laptop. I just happened to be on the windows partition when the idea struck. Also I haven’t made memes in a long time so thought including paint would be funny. And it is.
Not that I'm a proponent of it or anything, but people were saying the exact same thing ten years ago after the first big bubble. I don't think it's going anywhere. There's too much greed in the world, and it's too enticing. At this point you might as well be a nun trying to get porn banned worldwide.
It was never an anonymous form of payment. And you didn’t hear it from me, but a certain agency has nearly the whole thing mapped to real people (when possible). There’s a whole division dedicated to it.
I won't lie. I mostly don't engage with content I see here. I didn't do that when I was on Reddit either and mostly for the same reason: I don't really have much to say and, even when I do have an opinion, I don't usually want to engage in what's often a protracted debate about something that will probably just end up being frustrating.
That's not to say I haven't had positive experiences on the Fediverse - I've had more here than anywhere else - I'm just not particularly motivated most of the time.
Well, I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts.
There are a number of thread topics on Lemmy that seem to keep going the same direction (Google, Musk, Gaza, Trump, Windows, etc.), and as you say, it can be frustrating and exhausting…
At the same tine on Lemmy, I had found articles that were worthwhile reading, updates to FOSS that I would have otherwise missed, no shortage of silly memes, and a handful of new perspectives that were positively thought provoking. Those let me look past most of the negative things and stuff that is pervasive on all kinds of forums, Reddit and social media on the whole.
I do most of my discourse on Beehaw which is protected in many ways. When I used reddit I would often have a comment typed out ready to post and think better of it since I knew it would only drive dismissive and antagonistic responses of the stupidest kind. It may be because of the protections or it may be because of the smaller community but I find a lot less posturing and a lot more actual conversation since I’ve been using this platform. This is what keeps me here rather than reddit. It might be worth engaging in conversations you wouldn’t have on reddit when you’re interested.
I agree… Beehaw is such a wonderful and special place on the internet. I have an account there but I try to keep it separate from my main Lemmy.ca one so that I better hold myself accountable to the server rules, in order to foster nicer discourse.
I’ll happily participate with light-hearted content but otherwise I mostly feel like you when it comes to any polarising topics like politics, etc. I wish there were more content about my areas of expertise so I could participate in that but alas there’s mostly developer stuff only. Maybe I’m also not doing my best curating my feed since I tend to mostly browse all.
I am this mans, and to be honest if there is no wind, I wouldnt be wearing the hoodie. Just run super hot. If I could afford it I would keep the house at like 62 and still have the ceiling fans on.
It’s still autumn on the Canadian east coast, and temperatures are now staying below the freezing point. Still seeing the occasional shorts wearer, now with boots on.
As an Okie, I’ll admit that our “cold” isn’t truly cold. Our coldest nights on average are like -3°C. In fact, the coldest it’s ever been in my neck of the woods is -25°C, and that was that freak polar vortex that knocked out power in Texas for several days in Feb '21. The coldest verified recorded temperature in Oklahoma happened in Nowata in Feb 2011, where it dipped to -35°C. And that was also a freak occurrence, and it was 24°C again within a few days. In my part of the state, it gets above freezing point about 355 days of the year. Rarely do we ever spend a full 24 hours below freezing, though it happens once or twice a year. We also get a decent snow or two most years, but it never sticks around for long. New snow is beautiful. But once it’s a day or two old, it’s disgusting. It’s nice that it all melts away within a few days.
And yes, I am a white man, and I wear shorts all year and in any weather.
Don’t ask me about the hot, humid hell we become over summer.
Am white guy that cab spend hours in a -10F freezer with just a lightweight coat and beanie. I wear shorts as long as it’s not windy and walked a mile in -15F one winter. That was a bit cold and had to take a warm bath after that.
I was born in Minnesota, so I know cold, in the south they think snow is cold, they are unaware of so cold it cant snow. I still shovel snow in my crocs
I agree that snowy weather isn’t that cold. But shovelling snow in crocs?? There is no worse feeling than that particular cold wetness of snow getting in your shoes. I wear a big snowsuit to prevent any snow from getting on me.
Might I recommend Denmark? Too damn cold here much of the year and other than the weather, which it sounds like you might enjoy, it’s an excellent place to live!
Because he’s right wing? This isn’t that complicated. People only get killed for actually threatening the gravy train. If this were another country the US would have backed the coup. Im still not convinced this will end with anything more serious than Trump getting a vacation in rich people jail.
I think he will never set foot in jail, the u.s government won’t allow it. He’ll be pardoned, or at the very best he’ll be convicted but will spend the rest of his life appealing, until he dies by big Mac overdose
Everyday that goes by the odds of a Big MacAttack raise. One of these days, the stain of America will be six feet under or dust in the wind and his racist cult of morons can crawl back under the rocks they came out of.
Meanwhile, on a somewhat normal day in Belgorod, Russia; things got very tense for a woman who hung a blue blanket out to dry, on an orange balcony. The FSB had her take it down after enraged neighbours called in to complain.
I’m not saying it’s exactly the same, but I’ve heard of American kindergarten teachers being told to take down the color learning rainbow decor which were NOT pride flags because bigoted parents threw a huge fit about the gay decorations. I’ve seen unironic videos of people claiming any decor featuring a rainbow in a classroom is LGBTQ indoctrination. And they were pointing at cartoon depictions of the sky, like with smiling clouds and suns.
My ADHD brain can’t focus well on cleaning unless I get that weird hyperfocus on it. Last time I got it it lasted a couple days and I got a Lotta things done. It was nice.
Ah yes, turn the important but not urgent task into an important and urgent task ! But it’s a balancing act to keep it below the “overwhelming task feels impossible so let’s just ignore it” threshold
I love yes it is an amazing tool. I never had an actual use for it since any tool I might want to use it on (like apt) already has some kind of command line switch for it already
But I just once in a while stumble across yes again and run it for half a minute and have a chuckle.
Aw man that thing was so useful during University. The assignment submission tool required saying yes a million times as it explain how the whole thing worked for every submission.
He is. The guy has published an absolutely preposterous number of books and has at least one out this year. They also did a Fear Street netflix series somewhat recently, last year I think.
Was that based on a more adult (but still young) reading level? The name sounds familiar and I grew up on RL Stine until I found the deluge of books set in the forgotten realms (Dungeons and Dragons setting, for clarity, not written by Stine)
