Now they get to train on all the “deleted” comments/posts as well.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Did you just say probably not then agree with me?

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Lol no worries

Decision of Next Os

I was Nobara user, then I am using Fedora right now. I want to use things like Hyprland etc. and ya know, Its damn cool to say I am using arch btw. So I’ve decided to use Arch Linux. But everyone says its always breaking and gives problems. That’s because of users, not OS… right? I love to deal with problems but I don’t...

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

So your only motivation is to claim you are cool? If you don’t want to waste time, don’t hop distros for no good reason. You can have a top teir experience with wayland on Fedora. It’s not like the software on Fedora is significantly behind Arch. We just wait for Arch users to find all the bugs :P

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Nix is the only compelling distro for anyone not on an LTS distribution imo. With first class wayland support coming for nvidia, I’m going to be nixing like 5 machines.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I’ve tried three times and it’s never worked for me :/

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

The harvest was too much, presumably not too much for the entire year.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Lol and maybe when the plant blooms you can have sudo back.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

100% with you on the new hires thing. Was remote in college and have been for all my jobs. Maybe its a case of the grass is always greener but I would much prefer to predominantly work from an office. Maybe not 5x a week nor a sizeable commute but I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of career growth, networking, and team cohesion. As an OSS contributor, homelab hobiest, and adhd experiencer, I find it difficult to sepererate my headspaces and get into work mode.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Sounds like they really don’t want their lives to be deterministic. I’m skeptical of anyone who jumps to quantum mechanics to explain consciousness. Would love to know what research you are referencing.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU , (edited )

Ahh jeez the Penrose theory. This theory gets less neat the more you learn about it.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

What do you think about alphafold? It’s been years since I’ve heard about it and am no longer in that space.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Thanks! Very interesting. Looks like we have some quantum activity going on after all. Though, there is a large chasm between observing activity and proving its necessity for our consciousness.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Just land on a moon of Saturn at that point.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

If you are interested there is a great repo to get you up an running on neovim without messing with anything. I got LSP support out of the box and took me less than a week to fully transition away from vscode. It’s called kickstart and is maintained by one the neovim contributors. I’ve done minimal tweaking months later.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I’ve procrastinated getting an AMD gpu for so long that I’m not going to need one! It’s still fuck you nvidia, I’m not a goldfish.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Did they need it before now?

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I want to fork Fedora and literally just change the name. Same thing with Mastodon and “toots”.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

This seems to be default on 39

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Here I am on Fedora wanting to try Tumbleweed

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Not just newest features, newest documentation, bug fixes, and optimizations as well. When I started with Linux, I had many issues that were further exasperated by finding answers for newer versions of software. Nowadays my servers run debian!

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Pretty close yes, but honestly anyone who would write the distro off for that reason alone isn’t serious enough about computing for it to matter which OS they pick. Only use Nobara if your main intention is gaming. Its not worth picking a niche distro unless you have a very good reason or thats part of the fun for you.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU , (edited )

far more processor intensive than the most advanced AIs we currently have

This is the second comment I’ve seen from you where you confidently say something incorrect. Maybe stop trying to be orator of the objective and learn a little more first.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I think the claim that 24 year old technology is more computationally intensive than the ground breaking tech of the modern day needs the citation.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

My only experience was on a shared machine (the $5,000 prebuilt offering) where one of the less tech literate people messed with nvidia drivers for data science. Worse, I was remote and it had some software from IT running.

Basically some combination of those things meant we ended up running it in recovery mode and all shared the same user. I think I downplay how shit that job was in my head.

The support from the company was ASS and I’m doubtful there was a human responding for the first few messages. I gave them very detailed logs of the issue, with links to their own documentation, and their response suggested they didn’t read past the first sentence. Really can’t imagine why I wouldn’t just stick to debian when the company support is worthless even after giving them 5k.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

About a year and a half ago. I am the anxious bug filling type as well, I make my questions very clear and provide all the info I anticipate they may need. That does not help when the info is not read. I had to copy and paste quite a bit from previous emails. This is while I was at a pretty significant institution as well.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I’m not the one who mentioned the instal medium but yeah I was pretty surprised as well. I’m sure I could’ve sorted things if I was on premise and could have IT reinstall their software.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I saved this comment when I read it, not remembering the last time I would’ve needed it. Two days later and I had to use it, thanks!!

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Not the best point to make while you are questioning why they are building Zed. Bot maybe?

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Better put your Carhartt on because those little razor paws could catch a wrist and end you with one good swipe.

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Yeah I’ve been very happy with Gboard recommendations, I disabled networking for the app since I’m using GrapheneOS and it still does great. Even voice to text is scary good, just have to download the model before disabling networking.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

It would solve two of your problems though, that’s a pretty good bargain.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Posting on the google store sucks, they make you jump through hoops and will collect data. If the app is already open source, there is no good reason to put it on the google play store.

Also, I don’t really understand the point of the term side loading when Android doesn’t prevent you to from adding other software sources. It feels like it carries connotations when all you are doing is adding a very well established open source software repository.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU , (edited )

Oh man I would just make it a point to celebrate getting a C with my colleagues. “Champion Rank” or something lol.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I feel the opposite actually. I say “no worries/problem” when I’m trying to communicate that the task was not a burden and that the person isn’t bothering me if they ask again. I say “you’re welcome” to acknowledge that I went out of my way to put effort in for them and that I appreciate their appreciation.

It’s definitely more personal, like if I said thanks for a gift and they said no worries, it would feel a little transactional (for me).

If someone thanks me for my open source code, I’m going to say “you’re welcome” because I’ve put many hours in primarily to improve their experience. If one of the more senior devs in my community asks me clarify something in my documentation and says thanks I’m going to say no worries because I would’ve done that anyway if I was aware of the issue. Honestly in that case I’m going to thank the dev for pointing me to the issue.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

My spelling errors only come into existence after I commit.

How can i do whatever I want to do ?

I wanted to install jackett and sonarr, they are complicated to use as is, moreover I am using Ubuntu. I am following fuidleine for installing jackett with STUPID command line making it EXTRA difficult. But now I have to change directory ownerships and what nots. I am the ONLY user on this machine. I want to own everything by...

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I’ve had this thought and felt it was so profound I should write a short story about it. Now I see this meme and I feel dumb.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

This is the best comment I’ve read on Lemmy in the 6 months I’ve been here.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

The people need to know how you use 13GB of ram worth of containers for web dev.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I’d still rather not force a conscious being into that existence. If I can’t move the needle myself, I’m not going to give up and and create a human just to put this massive burden on them.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU , (edited )

Billionaires are a huge issue and so is over population.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

I still get that from every human I talk to, just luckily not from the doctor. He was one vas deferens down when he asked for my motivation.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

My doctor played Africa by Toto on his phone

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU ,

Nothing practical unfortunately since I already have a headless raspberry pi and x86 machine that are no where near capacity. But I do love compiling whatever rust/golang project I’m working on to riscV just to see it run there.

I also have an arm32 box so I have fun running binaries on 4 different instruction sets. Admittedly the novelty has worn off as everything just works.

The work to get the larger linux ecosystem working on riscV is unfortunately outside my domain and skill level.

YIj54yALOJxEsY20eU , (edited )

Lol I like your writing. The amount of headless boxes I work on has definitely contributed to my desire to get proficient at vim. Now I feel confident when I have to edit some text on a server, rather than hoping the server has nano and the file isn’t too big.

And that 3 days was how long it took until I was moving faster in neovim than vscode after 4 years of use. Though it’s still perfectly valid to use vim motions in any editor you want. Theres a reason most every editor has vim motions.
