breakcore , in PS5 Bluetooth Controller Connectivity issues to PC 🎮

I have had a bunch of problems with PS5 controllers recently.

I am noy sure you are experiencing drop outs due to physical limitations, rather due to (as I recall) recent restructuring of the kernel code handling connections to the controller and regressions introduced herein.

One way to rule out physical limitations, would be to stand next to the PC and see how it fares. What is your experience like then?

Sunny OP ,

Works completely fine when I sit next to the computer and play on my monitor instead of the TV. It only occurs when I sit away from the PC, by 3 meters, roughly. I also have a Bluetooth headset I use from time to time, and that works flawlessly connected to the PC, even if I go to other rooms in the house. So pretty sure the network card itself works fine…

I use a HYTE CNVS deskpad and a Razer Firefly hard surface mousemat. I’ve found I prefer hard surface mats over cloth ones. I also really like the Razer Mamba Hyperflux, but they don’t make it anymore. It’s a Firefly mouse mat that wirelessly powers the included mouse and it’s a really neat design, though doesn’t work well if your desk has metal supports under where the mousemat goes. For that reason I use it at work, not at my gaming setup.

Wutchilli , in Playing "The Planet Crafter" via Proton

My first thought is that there might be some Kind of DRM involved, early access and dev versions might not have it but the full releases might.

MoLoPoLY OP ,

Maybe… If I use the stable version, it works also sometimes with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1, but has only 2fps. I can remove this parameter with the dev version and have 45fps.

ogeist , in LAVD Kernel Scheduler Shows Promising Results For Linux Gaming

For those interested, the AUR package is

scx-scheds

It appears you can change the scheduler on the fly so I will definitely try it. There are more schedulers available as well.

There’s a comment in the article that says you can improve performance drastically, hard to believe but we will see.

(e)BPF’s sched_ext allows dynamically loading schedulers from user space, yes.

ogeist ,

You do need a kernel with the sched-ext kernel option. Trying to install it right now.

Atemu ,
@Atemu@lemmy.ml avatar

Which version was that introduced in? 6.9?

ogeist ,

It’s not in the mainline, you need to either install the cachyos repo or compile the kernel with patches.

Does attaching that license work?

Dunno, we’ll see. I hope it will.

There’s a lawsuit against microsoft for using copyrighted code to train their coding LLM and it’s being decided.

SSUPII , in Using Proton 8+ with GTX 1xxx series GPUs

I have no issues with Proton 8 on Nvidia GTX 1050 Mobile. Please be more specific with your info

muhyb OP ,

Thank you for the reply!

I just wrote the details here: programming.dev/comment/9284416

What is your driver version, you might be the first person I met who doesn’t have problems. If your driver is older than 535, that’s normal though.

I have 1660Ti and same things happens with 1060 on a different PC. Doesn’t happen with 470 series driver for example.

Atemu ,
@Atemu@lemmy.ml avatar

Note that 1660 ti and 1060 are from an entirely different generation of product; one is Turing the other Pascal.

muhyb OP , (edited )

I know but I read somewhere that it could be related to Nvidia’s Vulkan 1.3 implementation in their driver. It was fine when the version was 1.2. Generally cards without ray-tracing but somehow some of the older cards are fine apparently.

I have used a Logitech G440 Hard Gaming Mouse Mat for the last 20 something years.

It’s gotten a bit battered and starting to de-laminate on one edge but it’s still perfectly usable even after all these years.

Mazoku , in Recommendations for an authentic mousepad?

I used a HyperX Fury S XXL for 4+ years with no issues before switching to a glass mousepad. I’ve heard Artisan mousepads are really good, or Artisan clones like the LGG Saturn Pro

db2 , in Recommendations for an authentic mousepad?

Haven’t seen a mouse pad in two decades… 🤣

Sunny OP ,

woah — you dont use a mouse pad??

db2 ,

Not since laser mice became a thing. Also trackballs.

Sunny OP ,

But the sound of the mouse against the desk is usually awful imo, that’s the primary reason for a mouse pad for me almost.

db2 ,

Hard silicone feet make it glide silently. You have to be kind of picky, an $8 Walmart mouse is going to sound as terrible as you’d expect it to.

cmnybo ,

If the mouse stops sliding smoothly you can look for “teflon mouse skates” and find some replacements for a couple of dollars.

hark ,
@hark@lemmy.world avatar

Without a mousepad, the laser on my mouse leaves marks on my desk. It’s a cheap desk, but still.

I recently started using a piece of paper taped to a TV-dinner-table, does that count? It is a nice piece of paper though (slightly larger than standard notebook paper, it's art paper I think... something I found randomly while re-arranging things).

At one point I was using an infrared mouse which worked somewhat better on rough surfaces, so that's why I ditched the mousepad.

Sunny OP ,

Whatever flops your mop dude :-)

What’s this “mouse pad” thing everyone’s mentioning?

RvTV95XBeo , in Recommendations for an authentic mousepad?

I used to have a hard mousepad, because I thought it was “cool”, but in retrospect it was basically no different than just using my desk would have been. They’re noisy, and 99% of them just give off edgy gamer vibes.

Cheap neoprene (or similar) mousepads are all about the same in terms of performance, but pricier ones typically look better and may last a little bit longer.

Recently I’ve upgraded my setup to a wool one from here: grovemade.com/desk-and-mouse-pads/

Its been about a year and I still love it, but I will note that I can see how the slightly rougher texture could be a turnoff for some people. They do have other options with different natural materials you may be interested in. IMO, all of their options look classy AF, and I like the use of more natural materials

Sunny OP ,

wow wow wow! Seriously, thanks for sharing this one! These look like great quality and exactly the kind of pad I was looking for. Love the variety they have as well.

Have a splendid day 🌻

I personally use a very thin hard plastic mousepad that sticks to the table, the Razer Sphex v3: www.razer.com/gaming-mouse-mats/razer-sphex-v3

It can be very loud to move your mouse on at first (also depending on the skates on your mouse), but once the texture wears off it’s very, very smooth.

It’s not very durable, take it off a few times and it’ll probably not stick well to the desk anymore (it doesn’t ruin your desk though). I still like it the most though.

Sunny OP ,

thanks for sharing!
