30p87 , in Cycle through windows | apps

Not really your question, but I just ignore that dilemma by using sway, so a workspace based tiling WM.

fuego , in Dell is so frustrating

Not sure why anyone would by linux certified laptops and expect to be treated with the same level of care as windows users.

Sorry you got ripped off, but hopefully this will be a lesson for the future.

cmnybo ,

One would expect that a Linux certified laptop would use Linux compatible hardware.

fuego ,

Yes, one would hope.

But that’s just not how the capitalist world works.

BCsven , in Windows just fucked up my bootloader...

Was your LINUX efi partition on the separate drive? and are you using Linux Grub as the dual boot option?

lurch , in CLI text processing with GNU Coreutils (head, tail, tr, sort, paste, pr, join, etc)

… or you can just read the texinfo manual. if installed, thats: info coreutils

ManniSturgis , in Mozilla released a Firefox Nightly test build with vertical tabs - gHacks Tech News

Top right of my tab bar in firefox, there is a little down pointing arrow. I click that: BOOM vertical tabs. Now make it an optional fixed thingie and let me stack them. I may be missing something here, but that sounds like something an experience Firefox dev can implement in half an hour.

Open SUSE have good hardware support out of the box and better than Arch personally

flashgnash , in Are there any CPUs that work well with Linux that aren't made by Intel or another company on the BDS list/that supports Israel?

Am I the only one of the opinion tech companies that don’t produce any kind of military equipment should not have any political leaning whatsoever?

bizdelnick , in Rectangle for Linux?

It’s a window manager feature. I don’t know which one is used in Cinnamon by default and if it is able to do so, but you can switch to another one anyway even without changing the complete DE. E. g. xfwm4 provides such a feature. I believe that kwin also does.

I also suggest you to try some tiling WM, you may like it.

D_Air1 , in Does anyone know how to execute a script when a certain sound plays?
@D_Air1@lemmy.ml avatar

Sounds like a case where machine learning would actually be useful.

flashgnash , in Does anyone know how to execute a script when a certain sound plays?

Sometimes the easiest solution is multiple solutions

Maybe just write something to hook into the notification in Chrome, there’s probably a way to get that working within an electron app too if the desktop app (teams?) is electron

Communist OP ,

That won’t work if the backend ever changes, and will be locked into a single program

github.com/JorenSix/Olaf I’ve decided to use this, i’ll probably have a solution this week, i have to actually record the sounds my next workday, then i’ll test it. Seems much easier to do than making a chrome extension, honestly.

Armando3996 , in Your first distribution

Pop-Os in summer 2021, running Arch Linux with Hyprland now in 2024.

zerofk , in Mozilla released a Firefox Nightly test build with vertical tabs - gHacks Tech News

You mean the thing that Opera had in the 90s, and Vivaldi since inception?

MigratingtoLemmy , in Fwupd Will Use Zstd Compression

I think that’s a decent approach

gravitywell , in if you installed a linux distro on a macbook pro, can you change the mac address?

Have you tried macchanger? Also don’t disable network manager,.normally you should be able to change your Mac in network manager but it sounds like maybe you’re following a tutorial of some kind that might not be right.

j4k3 , in if you installed a linux distro on a macbook pro, can you change the mac address?
@j4k3@lemmy.ml avatar

I would use OpenWRT documentation to get an idea of low level mechanisms and paths. This looks like a rabbit hole but your answer is probably somewhere around here and is just setting an alias somewhere:
