I had a gay dude spank my ass once at a bar and when I looked at him he winked at me as he walked away. In that moment I understood what women must always have to deal with when they’re out. Haven’t washed my ass since
Welp, we let an idiot manchild run a whole country with the strongest military on earth under his command, and a nuclear arsenal button under his fucking finger. 😂
My wife went to school for English lit and is a professional writer. I cannot get a plot twist past her notice. It sucks so much. There was a video game that featured a serial killer (no spoilers, so no title) and I NEVER would have guessed who it was. I played it and I was shocked at the twist. Then I had my wife play it and in the first five minutes of the game she was like “That man is evil and I don’t trust him” and I was like WTF!!! He’s like nice and friendly and stuff. How the fuck does she do it. I spent hours having to gaslight her about how correct her prediction was. She also always knows when someone is going to die. I have to tell her not to comment predictions about movies because she’s correct at least 70% of the time.
Space X is a legitimately good company. You can hate Elon all you want, Space X does some awesome shit. Rockets that land and are reusable, plus the advantage of completely getting rid of the US’s reliance on Russia.
Several subs that I frequented are gone. The biggest pain to me is probably caused by the loss of Transcribers for Reddit. The group behind it basically disbanded at the end of june.
Yeah so there is still a lot of activity. However, >2000 subs are still dark, 18 others have gone full john oliver and many more are less moderated than before. BotDefense are leaving. So it’s definitely not that nothing out of the ordinary is going on, although I think that is exactly experience that reddit as a company tries to give you when you visit the site.
Eitherway, I am a lemming now and very happy to be here and not there.
Exactly! Last I checked, sure there was a lot of activity BUT as you said, many subs are still dark. The major subs that reopened with new moderation have definitely had a major dip (imo) in quality. I was still seeing John Oliver everywhere. They did use quite a few users, maybe not enough for them to flinch too hard but, how active were those users? I consider my old account there a “power comment account” I rarely posted but was extremely active in the threads, spending hours each day replying to comments of my inbox, so much so that I rarely even viewed actual content. Makes me wonder, how many accounts like mine did they lose? Many just lurked. The comment sections were fueled by active commenters and imo it wouldn’t take losing too many like me for the threads to take a noticeable hit.
Anyway I don’t care much about how it is over there rn, just glad I have this place so I don’t have to support that platform in any way. Plus now that I’ve found a cool app, jerboa or whatever it’s quite enjoyable! Connect and liftoff are also great but my phone doesn’t play well with many apps.
Yup. Just like Spez predicted. The site is maybe less popular, but it will survive. The protests will die off eventually. The Reddit clones will never be as popular and active as Reddit once was. Maybe eventually the investers and advertisers will return, and it will be seen in hindsight as a smart move. The quality of the content may take a drop, but it was a calculated risk of making it more profitable.
Let’s use racism to describe racists? Seems reasonable
I knew you’d use the “other countries have nukes too” statement. Well, other countries aren’t as hostile as China is, except North Korea, but are you going to tell me it doesn’t get the China treatment? Lol. Israel is basically an extension of NATO at this point, Pakistan isn’t viewed favourably at all and India isn’t particularly hostile
Why do you feel the need to defend China? They could have put any powerful country in there really, but there aren’t many left when you have NATO and Russia already
The Soviet Union only briefly played with the idea of communism before committing to a single party socialist Republic. Modern day Russia is an autocratic dictatorship hiding in a Trenchcoat with “democracy” written on it.
China is again, a one party state which is, in truth, a Republic. China’s historical dances with “communism” are rather similar to that of the USSR wherein an offshoot of marxist-leninism was implemented, modified and then used, ultimately landing closer… Again to a socialist Republic and now being effectively an autocratic dictatorship hiding in a Trenchcoat… Etc. Etc.
Neither country in myopinion ever reached the illusory “true communism”. Maybe the west is right and it’s a failed ideology, maybe “it just hasn’t had the right leader yet” but ultimately, I believe most political ideologies have good bits that we can take notes on to improve the lives of others.
I apologize for any historical or political inaccuracies, wrote this with knowledge from the best of my memory while on the toilet at work
From what you’ve said, it looks like communism has a historical tendency to become an authoritarian dictatorship, in turn redefining what ‘communism’ means to most people?
I think authoritarian states typically get mislabeled very easily within modern times, especially by themselves. Some precedent I believe should exist for what I would loosely call “Stalinist” Communism, as that is what has been the most historical application of the term. But the modern Chinese state I believe would make Mao, Lenin, and even Stalin roll around in their graves by being considered Communist, and we should call a spade a spade. China is a fascist country now.
