His whole look is very not butch. That beard is very well groomed and his hair is immaculate. His skin also looks very cared for. I do believe his dear papa may have been a lumberjack.
Nothing wrong with that of course, but I think he would be a lot happier if he just embraced it, poor thing.
That said, there are well-groomed, eyeshadow wearing straight men. Just look at Travis McElroy. No need to start putting people into boxes based on appearance.

That’s because he’s not a hillbilly. He grew up in Ohio and went to Yale. His grandparents were from Appalachia, so he calls himself a hillbilly- and uses a bunch of bullshit stereotypes about Appalachia while doing it.
There is hillbilly Ohio. Huntington is just across the border and even in Columbus you get a lot of refugees from Appalachia, including my girlfriend. But he’s from fucking Middletown. I’m from the Dayton area with a grandparent who grew up in West Virginia myself, but given that one of my partners grew up in part in rural Tennessee, and even my ex in Lexington was far more Appalachian than I could ever be, I understand that I’m not someone who can claim this.
What gets to me is how Middletown does give him a sob story. It’s been hit hard by the decline of the rust belt. Like, it’s rough by Dayton standards. But he doesn’t want to acknowledge that the money ghouls destroyed his home state
Technically correct, but your comment makes it sound like the military is actively commissioning movies, which is not the case. When Hollywood wants to make historical or war movies, they have few options:
Buy the equipment - one military ship or airplane can be more than the whole movie’s budget.
Prop/CGI - may look bad and doesn’t guaranty to be cheaper.
Get all the gear for free, loaned out from the military (including training and specialists) - but they get to edit and approve your script.
I wish there were more options for independent and critical movie makers.
The person you replied to said “subsidized”, which implies what you just explained. The US military provides support to movies and TVs. However, it would be naive to think that the military still doesn’t try to influence the production. It’s been a long time since I have listened to it but there was a podcast mentioning “Zero Dark Thirty” having influence from the CIA; and the movie is about justifying torture to get results for “the greater good”. This is in spite of the report commissioned during the Obama era that torture never yielded any significant results.
“Actively Commissioning” and “Subsidizing” are two different contexts. Your points are all accurate, but commissioning a movie means actually going out and saying, “we want this movie, and will pay/provide resources to it in order for it to get done”, versus “your doing a movie with military, we’ll provide resources in compensation for a meddlers credit”.
Same with games like CoD. Fucking Activision has former CIA execs working for them. And how they use real events in the games and spin them around to make America look like the good guy.
It’s probably what we can experience without technology, which can also allow us to see smaller/shorter-duration things, or record past events. Eurasia is about 10^7^ m long.
I do see a lot of America and American hate on here, I agree with a lot of criticism of America and it’s people but it does get heavy into generalizations on the latter end.

I can pretty comfortably read it backwards. Taught myself to read mirrored and upside down as a kid, because I had a lot free time. But It’s pretty fried, and it didn’t look right, so I had to know what it would look like reversed again lol
