we were picking up some free boots for my partner off of facebook marketplace when i asked about the weight bench that was also in the yard. the owner said “someone said they were coming for it, but they were supposed to be here 2 hours ago. you want it?” I disassembled it in the yard and ruined my folding knife trying to use it as a screwdriver, but it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Grabbed some adjustable dumbbells from amazon, have been hitting up marketplace for plates people aren’t using ever since, and I’ve now got a full-body 5x/week workout routine that is 100% the key to my mental and physical health. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself, and getting every piece of equipment that I use today cost about $100 total.
Recently? A cordless stick vacuum. My wife has wanted one because it was too heavy and she figured she would vacuum more often if she had a lighter one. Of course that turned out to not be the case but it is a heck of a lot easier to maneuver around and bring it to other areas of the house.
Previously? Wireless ear buds. Loved those. Unfortunately my dog ate my first pair and I left the second pair on a plane. My next pair will be cheap ones.
I vacuumed so much more when I got a shark, then more recently I got a roomba and now I just carry her from room to room and go watch TV, amazing life improvement.
I also have a Roomba. But I also have young children and there is roughly a 0% chance that it will make it through a cycle without getting stuck while chomping on something. I also have a corgi-husky and few Roomba is pretty useless for getting up her hair in the carpet. It was good at sweeping though.
I bought a Dyson upright ball which was an expensive purchase at the time. I thought it would cover everything needed. What a pain in the ass to use the hose and attachments.
Great if trying to reach the ceiling but tedious to use and put away. Not easy to use near the vacuum either.
I have a ryobi cordless vacuum that I found was being used more often as it was a easy pickup and vacuum on the go especially for small jobs. I bought an adapter to allow it to use the Dyson attachments so now it looks like a stick vacuum without the fuss of the Dyson ball. Game changer now I’m told.
With rain gear. But I live in an incredibly dry area and work from home; I’ve been commuting places I need to go exclusively via motorcycle for 2 years and I’ve been caught in the rain twice. I’ve had to Uber instead of ride once.
I don’t bother with a two piece rain suit, I just throw a bright yellow poncho on over my usual jacket and secure it around my waist. My pants are a lost cause though.
Don’t you have to be in an almost pitch black room for it to look decent though? I also heard there can be pretty bad input lag?
It was quite a few years ago that I last looked into a projector so maybe they’ve gotten better, but these days massive TVs are so cheap I don’t know if it would even be worth it.
One UPC = one item. For the purposes of inventory reconciliation you are requested to treat all paired, grouped, bundled, etc, items as a unit or group of units where the quantity thereof is to match the number of uniquely scannable UPC codes, or where multiple codes are affixed to a single saleable unit the saleable unit itself may be considered to be the saleable unit.
Yeah, just the standard ones. Yeah I think that’s a great idea. In fact just yesterday I bought some new slippers from the supermarket which turned out to be badly designed chinesium prototype slippers and thought about just having a second pair of crocs for indoors. I just checked and you can even get fluffy lined ones!!
64 ounce Stanley water jug. I throw ice in it and I have something cold to drink all day. It’s beautiful.
Bidet has been good though now it feels gross to shit at work and my politics demand I shit at work.
Contact grill, ie a GE brand George Foreman. I can’t fuck up flippimg shit if I’m frying both sides simultaneously. And a food thermometer so my colorblind ass isn’t relying on mom’s shit advice to just cook it until it’s brown.
This battery car starter / tire infator / phone charger. I have used it with some frequency, but more often I can just roll up and fix someone’s car problem super quick. I even get out of work with it a lot when a customer needs someone to jump their car or fix a flat (also keep a tire patch kit obv).
All of this is bought from thrift stores. I can only assume most of my shit was originally shoplifted, it’s fantastic. There is just so much good shit being sold for almost nothing, I am the KING of expired Chips Ahoy.
A Comma 3 to run Openpilot on my Honda Civic. It’s lane keep / adaptive cruise control on steroids. I drive about 40 thousand miles each year for work, 46 miles round trip on “local” days. Having that level of driver assist on the highway makes a life changing difference. I arrive less fatigued and feel more capable of reacting to hazards. Their tagline is making driving chill, and it really has delivered. I don’t know how I did this mileage before Openpilot.
It’s considered a “level 2” driver assist, enhancing the existing adaptive cruise or lane keep assist built into the vehicle (which are also considered level 2 and perfectly legal) The driver is still completely responsible for anything the vehicle does.
That said IANAL, but I feel comfortable with this level of vehicle modification and any liability involved.
Was going to say my sleep mask. My partner needs a TV show on when she goes to sleep, I need pitch black. The sleep mask has made it possible to sleep in the same bed.
Yes, sleep mask for the win. I recommend the kind that is just a wide soft bit of cloth that wraps around your head. Like this. The ones with elastic straps or eye cups, gel, foam, whatever, have not been nearly as comfortable IMHO. I just want a pillowcase for my face.
I’ve also recently started wearing earplugs since my wife is up before me and the kitchen sounds always cause me to stir well before my alarm.
Oh wow, thanks for the recommendation! That looks a lot more comfortable than the normal sleep masks I get. It also looks like it might last longer, because often the elastic on my normal sleep masks stretch over time and start falling off my face. I should save this comment, maybe this whole thread lol.
Over the counter sleep aids didn’t work for me. I did a sleep study and it turned out I have sleep apnea. I use a CPAP for the sleep apnea and was prescribed Trazodone for insomnia and it’s helped significantly. Trazodone is technically an antidepressant but it works better for treating sleep disorders so that’s its most common use case now.
As I understand it melatonin doesn’t necessarily help you to stay asleep, so I found it to be a game changer when I switched to a time release melatonin. Now if I wake in he middle of the night I find it much easier to fall back asleep.
My doctor researched it with me during a checkup and it seems that there is no real overdose for it. Rather, extra just doesn’t have an effect on you. This is to say that you could probably play around with doses to see what works–somewhere between 3mg and 12mg or so.
Blundstones. I live in a coastal city that’s wet (but rarely snowy) the vast majority of the year. Having rain-resistant shoes that are comfortable AND durable has been a game changer.
And if I can mention a second: A proper, long raincoat. Combined with good shoes, I’m able to tolerate the weather here much better than when I’d first moved to this city and relied on sneakers + regular jackets.
A private jet, it’s amazing being able to just show up at the airport whenever you feel like it, not have to go through any security, step on the plane and just take off and be wherever you want a few hours later.
Slip-on shoes, these specific ones are so well designed I can put them on in a few seconds while standing. They basically have loops for fingers on the tongue and pull/heel tab, I wish there were better quality shoes with the same design though as these have very specific cleaning instructions.
Keen Newports have the finger loops on tongue and heel. I think Blundstone boots do, too? I’m sure someone with Blundstones can confirm or refute that.
Not the person you responded to but you can turn any shoe into this. Lock laces. Instead of tying my shoes daily you can slip them on and off and they always stay exactly perfect. I adjust them mayyybe once a year. They’re like 10 bucks and make my shoes feel amazing.
