Interacting with people. As teen i sucked at social interaction but as an adult I started getting the hang of it. Now I look at other people and I think I can do it better than most. A smile and tidy clothes go a long way.

087008001234 ,

I would say I agree with this, but also just navigating social interactions at work. As I’ve got my life together in the last few years, I’ve grown increasingly shocked at how many of my coworkers just… can’t get over simple adult challenges like avoiding hanger by eating normally timed meals/keeping their tempers in check, recognizing and isolating insecurities. These are things that take time to overcome, certainly, but the bare minimum is the bottom of the pyramid of needs, and I see well-paid people failing at them constantly.

I think that I learned a lot about basic work courtesy as a younger person but didn’t actually understand how to practice it and communicate healthily and positively with others until just recently. Probably because I had my own insecurities and issues holding me back.

Great. Thanks

Tying shoe laces. One day I could just do it without looking. Before then I couldn’t do it at all, way behind the class by about a year, an embarrassment to my parents.

Job… applications and interviews? The combination of constant rejection, fawning, self aggrandisement, and constantly changing arbitrary standards for all stages just does not gel at all with my combination of rejection sensitivity, slightly different fawning, self deprecation, and bucking against arbitrary social standards etc. I’ve only gotten one job ever from cold calling since I started applying in 2004. Every other time I’ve known someone, and it’s usually a few years between jobs

Life. Still trying to grasp the concept.

Xantar ,

It’s a pay to play opt-out sandbox.

BreadOven , (edited )

Oof. True. At least it’s open world.

Edit: also pay-to-win.

Xantar ,

Depends on what you consider winning. But for most people owning everything they can want is winning. For some it’s personal fulfillment, still money helps in that sense. So it’s a easy mode I guess.

BreadOven ,

Yeah. Just more or less saying what you said. I don’t agree with it, but it seems like a sad reality.

It’s an insane commitment to the bit

I’m a sideshow performer, have trained a variety of bizarre skills, but still can’t whistle.

So whistling

Godric ,

Wait, you can learn whistling? I only can do a high pitched gym-teacher sounding whistle, which was very entertaining in gym class, but has since fallen off hard

One day a couple years ago I decided to just learn it. I then tried to whistle for three months whenever I was alone and suddenly one day, it was whistling and not just wind-sounds.

Xantar ,

Compassion. I used to be a terribly selfish person. Still mostly am.

TubularTittyFrog ,

so you’re a normal person then?

Xantar ,

Relatively

Reading an analogue clock face. I could do digital though.

The small hands tell the hour, the large hands the minutes.

I’m also just spit balling but many skills are needing an account if muscle memory.

So with that I’m mine i wonder if you spent 10-20 minutes a day just tracing styles or things you want to be able to draw to develop that muscle memory would be helpful

Tying a tie for meetings, interviews etc.

I’ve always had issues trying to do myself from “my angle” if you know what I mean, I’ve always worn light blue or grayish dress shirts without the tie to interviews, or I’d just leave the tie spaced out so I can shrink it again when I got around my neck.

Still trying to get the hang of it!

CHOPSTEEQ ,

Forget those complex “classic” knots and try the “Van Wijk” knot. It couldn’t be easier, you only move the fat end of the tie and wrap it around the skinny end 2-4 times before pulling the fat end through the wraps. So fast, impossible to forget, and looks classy while being distinct.

maculata ,

Not being a fucking ADHD retard. … and I still haven’t learned it properly.

TubularTittyFrog ,

keep trying little smurf.

maculata ,

Every day.
