Giving up on selfhosted email / Any sane email setups?

So I’ve been running self-hosted email using Mailu for a couple of months (after migrating out of Google Workspace). Today it turned that although my server seems to be capable of sending and receiving emails, it also seems to be used by spammers. I’ve stumbled upon this accidentally by looking through logs. This seems to...

Why Do Companies Not Use Existing 2FA Standards?

This is something I am seeing more and more of. As companies start to either offer or require 2FA for accounts, they don’t follow the common standards or even offer any sort of options. One thing that drives me nuts is when they don’t offer TOTP as an option. It seems like many companies either use text messages to send a...

TIL the history behind the "space melody".

You may know it as Space Melody by Luna Park or as ResuRection by ППК (English: PPK), but the original melody was composed by Eduard Artemyev for the 1979 Soviet film Siberiade. The original name of the song, as titled in the movie’s soundtrack release, is la mort du héroes (the death of heroes, if my French is correct)....

Films and shows which tell the story of how they themselves were produced

In The Office (US version) it is revealed that the mockumentary the viewer watches does in fact exist inside the universe. Dunder-Mifflin crew is even interviewed as stars of the show and Pam has a thing for the boom mic operator who worked on the set....

proxmox: Do you use a headless Linux OS as a VM or one with a GUI?

Hi. Since yesterday i selfhosted all my stuff with a raspberry pi and two odroids. Everything works ok, but after i read about a few apps that are not supported by the arm-architecture of the SBCs and about the advantages of the backup-solution in proxmox, i bought a little server (6500T/8GB/250GB) to try proxmox....

Questions about Rooting

I use my phone a lot, and a huge thing that bugs me about it is Moto’s airtight grip on everything I do. So many apps I never use are flat out necessary, every update comes with 2 or 3 shitty mobile games I never play, and I am just sick of it. So I am looking at rooting and would like some advice from my comrades on lemdroid....

Why is cooking a food item method called different things by what the item is, or what is the criteria?

On the Food network they boil potatoes, but they poach carrots. They poach turkey, but they boil eggs. They sauté’ onions, but they fry eggs in the same pan. Likewise, they fry hash browns, but they sauté’ onions in the same pan before adding the potatoes....

Do you guys use realdebrid (and similar services) to download stuff, or to set it up to be able to stream directly without having to download anything?

On the one hand, it’s really fun to be able to stream 60gb 4k content through stremio/plex debrid, but on the other hand, if i choose to end my subscription, I don’t have anything to show for the money I spent till that time.

[Help] Dropped connections to VM with multiple interfaces.

I’m not sure where to start with to troubleshoot this. I segregated my network into a few different VLANs (servers, workstations, wifi, etc…). I have VMs and LxC containers running in Proxmox, routing is handled by Opnsense, and I have a couple tplink managed switches. All of this is working fine except for 1 problem....

How do you daily drive an Android 5 device in 2023?

About to move out from my parents and found the old Remix mini lying around collecting dust. Thought it might be possible to use it as a backup PC for light web surfing and YouTube when I’m back at home. Is that concept possible in 2023? If it is, what should I be prepared for and what to expect?

What to do with a beefy server?

Alright, this may be a bit of a loaded question. But I figured it may provide good insight to both myself and to others. I just came into a pretty beefy server - dual Xeon E5 2699 v3’s (18 cores each), 768 gigs of RAM. Ten front drive bays, 6 of which have 7.68T NVMes and 4 of which have 15.36T SAS drives. I’m thinking the...
