“Son, never trust a man who doesn’t drink because he’s probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They’re the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They’re usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they’re a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can’t trust a man who’s afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It’s damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he’s heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.“ - James Crumley

Son, never trust a man who doesn’t drink when he drives; he’s afraid he’ll crash, and a fearful driver is a dangerous driver.

Yeah but my favorite billionaire has a tax haven charity therefore he deserves to hoard more money than everyone I have ever known and their families going up 10 generations have ever seem in their lives.

IDK, they sure look like oligarchs to me

hemko , to lemmyshitpost in A rose by any other name

I mean the term oligarch has a clear definition that differs from billionaire, but to be honest pretty sure many billionaires meet the criteria…

Quickly from wikipedia

A business oligarch is generally a business magnate who controls sufficient resources to influence national politics.[1][2] A business leader can be considered an oligarch if the following conditions are satisfied:

uses monopolistic tactics to dominate an industry;
possesses sufficient political power to promote their own interests;
controls multiple businesses, which intensively coordinate their activities.

Edit: also this smells a bit like tankie propaganda pointed towards liberals and conservatives

Spiralvortexisalie ,

What purpose does the propaganda serve if it presumably hits across the board?

awwwyissss ,

You thought the murderous oligarchs that have stripped Russians of a chance for a democratic society are bad? What about Warren Buffet!!?!

hemko ,

Yep. It’s important to acknowledge the shit western billionaires do, but this kinda whataboutism is meh

More than just a bit.

Gates, Besos, Zuck and the foss hater msft boss whose name I can’t remember for sure. I honestly have no idea if Elon meets the 1st requirement - though simply being the richest man on planet highly hints towards it

If I had a nickel for every time Microsoft created an oligarch I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?

Who’s out there putting hands on the rim of toilet bowls? 'fess up.

jol ,

Depends how drunk and how violently I’m vomiting, really. At some point I just need all the support I can get… You’re not gonna die from touching some old pee.

HonoraryMancunian ,

If it’s my own toilet it’s probably one of the most sanitised places I can put my hands

(I’m very hygienic when it comes to my toilet, it gets sprayed with disinfectant several times a day)

explodicle ,

I clean the rim of the toilet bowl in case I need to vomit later. (Was in a frat)

ArmoredThirteen ,

I’m already leaving the situation needing to clean myself. There are other things taking priority over hand placement

Top Left – More or less the default position, sensible enough, if a bit naive. Nothing wrong with this.

Top Right – Having knowledge is a good thing, and so is making decisions based on sound risk-benefit analysis.

Bottom Right – Well, at least it’s an informed decision. Just don’t try to pass off the risk on someone else if it backfires.

Bottom Left – Oooouuuuh, you don’t want to be in this quadrant, trust me…

I think the show does a good job at showing how easy it is for Dale and Bill to swap too. Just recently watched the episode where they basically end up in a ditch because they didn’t really know how to use a digger - it’s hard to tell who is dragging down who.
