I dunno, I don’t like unnecessarily interacting with strangers. I’m gonna go sit in another room and tinker with something else for now.

I usually get that “this is fine” mantra going on repeat until it either touches me or I’m done and wig the fuck out of there. On the rare occasion I tell the spider we’re fine so long as we leave each other be and it’s all sunshine and rainbows. Brains are weird.

The second there’s more than 2 or it’s bigger than a toonie I’m bringing fire though.

We have many lakes and rivers, so dock spiders are common unfortunately. Wooded areas aplenty, so wolf spiders too. Then your common group of hanging out in the corners of your deck getting their full of mosquitos and black flies spiders. Those creeperass basement spiders with the long legs. I once also slammed my shed shut and fucked off back inside because of some furry palm sized bastard was chilling on the inside of said shed door.

They may not be poisonous or dinner plate sized, but some are pretty aggressive and others look like they should be.

It was my last summer at home before college too, but I did notice some aggressive webbing slowly overtaking the back shelf as the summer went. Only sign I knew I wasn’t crazy, because I also never saw it again.

Then the house sold while at college. Drove by a few weeks ago on my way through town and noticed the shed is now gone, guessing the buyer also saw the spider lol

I preemptively apologized for this a few weeks ago, but didn’t call it being the West’s fault. As stated before though, the states around and further south of Ontario and Quebec should brace themselves. It was a warm winter with nowhere near the proper amount of snow, so I expect a dry AF summer for us.

Not even bothering to get a fire permit this year, didn’t get to use it last year.

Even if it’s shit, there are options for internet so long as the sky is accessible.

Choose the recluse house! I bought a cheap house with neighbours and now the recluse houses are expensive. I made the bad choice.

That’s most of Canada really, outside of southern Ontario and Quebec. Sometime in the last 12 months Eastlink dropped their gigabit cable by $40 where I am so I’m hopeful for incoming competition finally. My 5 year goal is to move outside of town, so I’ll likely be going with skynet because I highly doubt I’ll have much choice.

Appreciation / shock at workplace IT systems

After self hosting several services for a few users, with SSO, backups, hardware issues etc, I really appreciate how good the IT was in my old company. iPhone SE - work phone provided by work. No idea why iPhone vs Android other than general uniformity and maybe security. I do have the choice of Android or iPhone for my next one, so who knows. Really tempted to go for Pixel Pro because I’m still not used to the differences in navigation a year and a half later. I fuckin hate my work phone. It doesn’t help that my personal is a Pixel 5 and I use the shit out of the back sensor, gonna miss that when this dies.

Apple AirPods Pro - these were a gift when I visited a sister site and they’re awesome. They were better before whatever firmware update happened that forced them to Adaptive Audio or Transparent though. Kind of annoying, but still awesome for being free.

Physically impossible as per our current understanding of physics, mathematics, and technology.

Is it normal to forget your own age?

I’m still in my 20s, but as of a few years ago I started forgetting what’s my exact age. I always have to stop and recalculate it each time someone asks me. I get asked fairly infrequently, but when I do it’s a bit weird/embarrassing that I have to say “wait, let me calculate”. (I know when I was born, of course.)...

I was actually just thinking today that when I get my new L desk at work and privacy screens, I’m gonna get a sun lamp and grow my own grass in a pot on my desk.

I work in IT and taken on a much more removed roll, so it makes sense because I get out even less now.

That’s awesome! Do it up! I’m so looking forward to the extra space. I’ve considered being impatient and taking over the spare desk next to me lol people just keep using it for storage and it’s making the big boss twitchy, so it would really be two birds one stone…

I’d wanna try and keep it a native type though, I’m in an industrial setting and our environmental people would probably flip my desk if they caught wind of non-native plant introduction on site… they’re super dire all the time.

All “we need this data for our month end and it hasn’t been populating for 3 weeks! The government regulator is going to fine us into oblivion blah blah blah”. One time they flipped out because it had been something like 3 months of no data but they didn’t tell us until a few days before the current month’s due date. Really hard to take them seriously on their issue priorities. But they totally flip my desk for bringing fancy grass lol

I have a workday routine setup to turn specific lights on for set stations. If my bathroom vanity and kitchen lights were capable of taking smart bulbs, I wouldn’t have to touch a light switch in the morning. It also means I don’t have to fumble in the dark, half asleep.

I also have another similar routine but for when my wife gets up with the kids for school.

Being able to let the kids keep a light on but at 1% brightness is glorious, because it’s a nightlight they can’t pull out of the wall.

Mood lightning in not just brightness levels but also colours.

Granted half of what I said is capable without a voice assistant.

Also I discovered that simulated grey light is a thing and it’s awful… But I learned that because of my voice assistant.

Collective? Pretty sure they’re not going to corale them all into one room, seal all the doors, reveal there’s a knife under the rug in the middle of the room and that the doors will only open again when there’s only one survivor.

Also the room is inside a faraday cage. And the only light is a single red bulb in the corner. And Norwegian Death Metal is blaring from in-wall speakers. Maybe spiders are dumped in through the ventilation ducts.

Sorry I just spent the last hour playing DnD with an LLM.

I’m about 50/50 on not wanting this happen to me because I want my kids to outlive me and because I’m legitimately scared of how I’d react being in that situation. I know how I’d want to react, which is cold calculating and devastatingly civilized. I fear it would be cold and devastatingly chaotically dangerous.

tooclose104 ,

I’d say obviously not but judging by the down votes it didn’t come across the way I intended. Definitely meant it as there are two reasons, split equally.

I’d fear my reaction because I’m scared I’d react in a way that would prevent me from caring for my surviving children and spouse.

Full moron is more than partial moron.

A partial moron might believe whatever he’s told but then have a “wait a minute, something’s not right here” moment. A full moron doesn’t have that moment and spreads the problem to others.

Another example would be a “leopards are my face” moment. A partial moron would be surprised that approaching a leopard caused them bodily harm but learn not to do it again. A full moron would sue the leopard but do it again with their child.

Another example: a partial moron gets directions, sees the distance, thinks a half tank of gas will get them there and back despite prior trips showing the opposite. But they have a Jerry can in the trunk. A full moron wouldn’t have the Jerry can and buys a bigger vehicle with a larger engine because it comes with a bigger gas tank and then blames the liberals when they still run out of gas.

Partial = recoverable, full = hopeless
