The Ministry of Health in Gaza

So Hamas?

mightyfoolish ,

Gaza has other people besides Hamas, but then again you probably love the idea of mass burial graves made from children the Isrealis “harrased.”

Neon , (edited )

Russia also has other people than Putin and his supporters, yet the russian ministry of health is still in the Hands of Putin. That’s a very stupid Argument.

Anyways, your accusation there is absolutely ludicrous and just plain unacceptable

Tagger ,

Are you arguing that it’s a complete lie and hundreds of newborn children in Gaza haven’t died since October 7th?

mightyfoolish ,

No, didn’t even refute the mass “harassment” claim.

For what it’s worth, I hope the Russians can get rid of their government and find freedom.

Tagger ,

I’m confused why you felt it was necessary to point out that the ministry of health was run by Hamas then, and what bearing you felt that bright to the information?

KillingTimeItself ,

Are you arguing that it’s a complete lie and hundreds of newborn children in Gaza haven’t died since October 7th?

YOU DONT LIKE HAMAS YOU MUST BE A RACIST XENOPHOBIC BIGOT

“look bro it’s just war, idk what you want me to say about it, reporting numbers is hard, especially in war torn countries”

THAT’S AN UNREASONABLE OPINION.

Python is a general purpose language. Yes you can do ML stuff and some mathematics, but that doesn’t mean you need to do them.

I was doing a job interview and the manager asked me why I choose python over other languages like R, like if I tough that python was the best language or what? I answered that python is not the best language for anything, for any job you want there’s a better language, but python is the second best one for everything, so it offers a flexibility that no other language can. Like in my actuarial sciences MBA, all the professors use R, for 99% of they do I have an equivalent library in python, for the 1% that don’t I can use rpy2 and run R code directly in python. Guess they liked my answer because I was approved and I’m about to start there in October.

“python is the second best language for everything…”

I love that summation! Python has been key for me to learn programming concepts. I hope to move into other languages in the future, but for now, Python does everything I need it to.

It’s more than theocracy, yes, but fuck theocracy, it’s a significant piece of the long game on this.

tslnox , to linuxmemes in One big happy family.

I’ve been a Windows… Let’s say a power-user, no expert but I could install it, find a way to troubleshoot most problems. Then at high school a friend lent me a bit outdated Knoppix CD. I never managed to make ppp work on that so no internet, but I loved the old KDE. Somewhat later, when we had a normal DSL line with a proper router, I got Fedora. Then Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Debian for a while…

Finally I found Gentoo. And there I am, some 10 years later, still on that. After a bit of a bumpy road of the first install (no automation, but the handbook is very helpful if you know the basic Linux and HW terms) it was almost flawless. I remember two problems, and both of them were my own fault. The first one was some testing kernel version that had a bug where small files on ext3 filesystem would get randomly corrupted. The second was when I was trying to remove some hidden files, mangled the command and ran basically rm -rf /* (seriously, don’t do that, it will delete everything on your system). I reinstalled the system (I had data on a different drive that either wasn’t mounted atm or it didn’t reach them before I Ctrl-c’d that command.) and all was well.

Finally I did last clean install when I bought new (used) Ryzen build to replace my old i5-2500k, I would’ve had to recompile world anyway and I had pretty much dependency hell of my own making at that point (I was testing tons of unstable stuff, new Plasma 5 from testing repo and so on).

Now I’m running mostly stable system with only bunch of packages unmasked from testing and there are no problems with that. I never had that with any other distro. No matter if Deb based, rpm based, sooner or later I inevitably ran into some variant of “I need a package that’s not in basic repo, and the package I found requires a version of some library that’s not available as well” or something like that. In Gentoo, the packages either compile against the version you have installed, or if not possible, you can have more versions installed at the same time in different slots. Also if you need something that’s not available in repo, you can just write a text file that downloads and compiles the version you need and it integrates in the package manager automatically, no need to create whole Deb/rpm package.

eramseth , (edited ) to games in What are your favorite racing games?

So, no one has mentioned any of these as far as I can tell.

The Crew Motorfest - sort of a competitor to Forza Horizon (FH is PCand Xbox only… The Crew is also on PS)… it’s an open world ish always online style game. Some say it had better physics and closer to sim than simcade when compared to FH… it worked better out of the box with my peripherals (wheel, pedals, shifter)… bonus: the prequel, The Crew 2 (which is a bit older and has a different setup) is $0.99 on basically all the platforms right now.

Dakar Desert rally - kinda rocky launch and might still be buggy… not sure on that front… but it’s kind of an ambitious game that no one else was making. Basically driving offroad through the desert from GPS waypoint to GPS way point in a huge open environment (this is called “rally raid”) in a variety of vehicles - cars, “cars” (really super trucks), big trucks (imagine racing a dump truck across the desert at whatever 120mph), motorcycles, side by side, atv. More simcade than sim in terms of driving feel. They,re not developing it anymore (in terms of new content… game breaking bugs probably get fixed) but there’s a decent amount of content there… a little context that they kinda over promised to an extent and under delivered. Victim of the recent industry-wide layoffs for sure. So it got kinda panned. Definitely not the GOAT, but maybe worth it when on sale if it sounds at all interesting to you.

dejected_warp_core , to linuxmemes in One big happy family.

Put any distro in front of me and provided I don’t need to master it, I’m good. Ubuntu is fine. Debian is fine. RedHat is fine. Fedora is fine. I even have a tiny low-end system that is using Bohdi. Whatever. We’re all using mostly the same kernel anyway.

90% of what I do is in a container anyway so it almost doesn’t matter; half the time that means Alpine, but not really. That includes both consuming products from upstream as well as software development. I also practically live in the terminal, so I couldn’t care less what GUI subsystem is in play, even while I’m using it.

WTYP. The most famous CEOs don’t work. They just exploit the work of others.

Kruulos , to games in People seem to really dislike Destiny 2. Why haven't they ended it yet?

I have never played Destiny 2 and wanted to try it out one month ago. I asked on Reddit what to do as a free-to-play player to get a good insight of what the game has to offer.

The gatekeeping was unreal. They said unless I’m willing to dedicate hundreds of hours I should not even try and rather uninstall the game immediately. For sure they made it feel that new players are not welcome.

Playerbase toxicity was a harsh reality. The game story, even in the broadest sense, was hard to grasp. The new player experience in-game was miserable. I have no idea what their money making plan is. Live service games need new players to stay healthy.

Grangle1 ,

Sounds like the community of every competitive (or coop campaign) multiplayer game I’ve ever been in. I prefer just to not play online multiplayer, I don’t have the time (or disposable income) to “git gud” enough to be able to even stand a chance against all the obsessed people who pour hundreds of hours into it in the first month and drive everyone else out.

SkyezOpen ,

It’s not gatekeeping, they were trying to save you. I still play from time to time and it’s… Not awful. But for a new player? I can’t even imagine. I’ve introduced 2 people to it and it’s several hours of explaining shit that bungo can’t be bothered to do. Then to kit yourself out to do anything other than basic strikes, it takes a shitload of grinding.
