I have a ship that is also perma on fire.

I also somehow managed to get a ship externally normal and internally an alien ship. Unsure how, but it was just after the custom ship update (I didn’t customise the ship, it just spawned like it)

It’s really cool. I hope my ship never gets fixed because it’s cool having a Ship that’s 24/7 on fire. it’s been about a year but I think mine happened after it crashed. I fixed all the rusted parts and damaged systems. And now it’s just stuck like this

Gifting someone a news article feels so dystopian

Microw ,

It’s like back in the day gifting rout bought newspaper copy to someone else to read

Theharpyeagle ,

I have some issues with WaPo’s reporting at times, but honestly, how do we expect to fund quality journalism if we never pay for news?

Flax_vert ,

We just read free fearmongering content on right wing extremist websites instead, duh

Canadian_Cabinet ,

The right answer is through memes and 4chan

SkyeStarfall ,

I don’t disagree, but ideally quality journalism should be treated as a public good, as it’s, well, a source of information about the world, an extention of education, you could say

A lot of European countries have tax-supported independent news organizations

lone_faerie ,

As much as I hate them, ads. The same newspapers have always made money. Along with the Wikipedia route of asking for donations

Revan343 ,

Publicly funded news corporations with journalistic freedom would be nice

This article is reposted. Or mirrored or whatever.

www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/…/ar-BB1qJ72W

I’d rather fund quality original news none-for-profit. But all major news articles are in it for the money. How do you expect me to pay for something that has a vested interest in making money off the stuff they report?

Frog ,

I am fine paying for news. My main problem is these newspapers use manipulation to spread their news. They use cookies to limit the number of articles you can read. This allows people that can see the article thinking everyone else can. Also the entire article can be read by search engines. So when people are searching for certain info, the find the article and they are paywalled. It’s a major waste of time. Just don’t allow those articles to be searched then.

On top of all that the offers the give are introductory. They will have a signifcant jump afterwards. They will hound you to resubscribe and sell your information for as much as they legally (usually) can.

I don’t get “Number of ratings” on the y scale. I tjought it’s an average number?

BananaTrifleViolin , to linux in I got average monthly ratings for games on Wine AppDB, and seems like something happened in 2016.

The left axis is average number of ratings per app. As all rating except the 3 month, 6 month etc lines have dropped then to me this suggests there has been an explosion in the number of apps in the database.

The more apps, means more smaller apps with frwer user ratings so the lower the average number of ratings per app overall would be?

akash_rawal OP ,

The left axis is total number of ratings of each type (Garbage, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) in a given month (not per app). For example for month 2016-07 there were

<span style="color:#323232;">  "Garbage" => 22
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Bronze" => 14
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Silver" => 13
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Gold" => 55
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Platinum" => 61
</span>

On right side is the average rating. So if I assign values to each rating:

<span style="color:#323232;">  "Garbage" => 1
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Bronze" => 2
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Silver" => 3
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Gold" => 4
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  "Platinum" => 5
</span>

I can get an average rating, which will be between 1 to 5.

<span style="color:#323232;">((22*1) + (14*2) + (13*3) + (55*4) + (61*5)) / (22 + 14 + 13 + 55 + 61)
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> ~=  3.721
</span>
