ADB via USB for speed, rsync via WiFi for everything else

renzev OP ,

Is ADB faster than MTP (the thing that android does by default when connecting over USB)?

QRCP is also pretty neat. It boots up a local http server to send/receive files and shows a QR code pointing to it. Works on android via termux as well!

HakFoo ,

MTP is awfully slow on my Nokia G20 at least. OTOH, it has a uSD slot so I could just pop it out and transfer that way.

$150 phones are better than $1500 ones.

renzev OP ,

$150 phones are better than $1500 ones.

Couldn’t agree more lol. fLaGsHiP phones are such a scam. I got my current phone for like 300 euro: It’s built like a tank, has a headphone jack, a microsd slot, unlockable bootloader, no camera bump, and if the usb port becomes damaged, I can just order a new one from the manufacturer and replace it using a single screwdriver. Meanwhile mainstream phones focus on bullshit gimmicks that nobody cares about like 5g, more cameras, glass back, “AI”, thinness to inflate the price tag.

lud ,

The biggest reason for flashghip phones is the camera quality and performance.

Thinness is also appreciated by most even if I don’t know if flagships target that anymore.

AceSLS ,

Is ADB faster than MTP

Yes, at least for every device I had in the past 6 years. By a lot actually

Kde connect all day erry day

Jumuta ,

kde connect and syncthing both just work, and it’s amazing

Duamerthrax ,

I haven’t been able to get Syncthing permissions to work. The frustrating thing for me with Android has always been inconsistencies between vendors and weird permissions issues.

ogeist ,

Localsend is also a thing

ChilledPeppers ,

Came here to say this

MHanak ,

I personally find localsend more reliable and easyer when it comes to sending files

TheFonz ,

It times out for me every time. After ten or so files just gives up.

OfficerBribe ,

It is alright, but SFTP transfer broke for me some time ago. I think it is related to changes in Android, but surprisingly there were not a lot of posts about this issue last I searched. Using Android 13 / Samsung One UI 5.1 with Windows 11.

Ghoelian ,

I use Material Files (from f-droid) as my default file manager, which includes support for mounting FTP, SFTP, SMB, and webdav shares. It doesn’t handle the connection getting interrupted very well, so if that happens i have to restart the app. Other than that it’s been working great for my SMB share.

I’ve been in the mood to play Skyrim the past few days so i downloaded it and painstakingly installed a nexus Modpack with a ton of QOL changes. It took forever but I am pleased with the results because the game looks gorgeous and has a ton of neat new mechanics that makes it feel immersive

cyberpunk007 , (edited ) to games in Day 7 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Only gave Skyrim a try a few times, the combats a bit clunky and the game feels repetitive. It can look very good though, especially with mods. The world is interesting.

morphballganon ,

the combats a bit clunky

Compared to what?

cyberpunk007 ,

Compared to nothing, it’s clunky

morphballganon ,

You can’t think of a game with non-clunky combat, and you still mark Skyrim down for it?

cyberpunk007 ,

Your argument is just weird. Ok how about elden ring. Doom eternal. Cyberpunk 2077. The Witcher 3. Stardew valley. I dunno what you want from me but the combat in Skyrim is clunky.

morphballganon ,

Asking you to clarify your argument is not me making my own. That’s a straw man fallacy.

Also Skyrim’s combat is much better than Stardew Valley’s…

cyberpunk007 ,

You’re entitled to your view and that’s ok.

Rai ,

I’m hella on your side, “compared to what” is a fucking stupid question. I love Skyrim and it’s clunkier than old style Monster Hunter games. Mods help but dang… it clunky. It’s only NOT clunky when doing archery the whole time, which is why everyone does that. The arching is good… also with mods… and in VR.

Even Fallout 4’s combat is less clunky and it’s CLUNK AS HELL

Rai ,

cringe

morphballganon ,

Stardew has no dual wielding… only one type of attack per weapon. There are bombs, sure.

Compared to Skyrim though?

Rai ,

THAT’s your response?

That’s very funny.

morphballganon ,

… are we playing different games, or are you a troll?

kronarbob ,

It’s the combat part of the game that made it hard to me to play Skyrim. I use some mod and play a mage to avoid playing with weapons, because I find the combat system slow and boring.

I’m replaying Dark Messiah. The game aged, but its combat style is still as dynamic as I remembered. Back then, It’s because I compared it to the Oblivion one that I didn’t played Oblivion more than a couple of minutes.

Koen967 ,

The combat is honestly my problem with most Bethesda games. I enjoy the environment and story, but the combat feels lackluster to me. Hits with any kind of weapon feel like they miss impact on the enemy. Other than that, great games.

MyNameIsAtticus OP ,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I have a mod in here called Valhalla Combat irc. Idk if it fixes your issue with the combat but it adds things like a lock on to make it much easier to keep a flow

cyberpunk007 ,

I’ll keep this in mind thanks!

I use a private room in my Matrix instance

umbraroze , to lemmyshitpost in Damn it Salmo

Salmo has two AI packages commanding him to take five loaves of bread to the Two Sisters Lodge at 10am and to the West Weald Inn at midday, but the packages never execute as he has no bread in his inventory and the packages are of “escort” type, meaning he doesn’t actively seek any out. It’s possible this bug was introduced to avoid another, more serious one: if bread is given to Salmo using the console or CS, he will walk to one of the inns as commanded, take a bite of bread, and the game will crash. (UESP)

Right, this is classic Bethesda stuff right here.

leisesprecher ,

This is what’s happening in highly complex software over time. Every larger system has corners like this.

I’ve worked on a system that required that you send invalid XML, because some bloke 10 years ago didn’t know what he’s doing and hardcoded a certain structure.

Easy fix, but our clients relied in the old behavior, and nobody bothered fixing it.

Prunebutt ,

and nobody bothered fixing it.

As they said: “Classic Bethesda behavior”

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

The real solution is to make Salmo not have a need to eat.

_stranger_ ,

Bethesda implemented a train in fallout 3 as a person wearing a train for a hat.

I don’t think they’re capable of solving things in normal straightforward ways.

FiniteBanjo ,

TBF the train worked really well and they managed to avoid programming vehicles from scratch.

roguetrick ,

And the terrain that train is passing? Also a hat. The skybox the terrain is floating in? You guessed it. It’s hats all the way down.
