This is why I come here. Fact checking without hysterics. @Skua, thank you for your diligence in providing facts that support jones being everso wrong, again, (still?) without punching down on @Flying Squid.
My take-away: jones is a dipshit of the highest order. And owes US$1,500,000,000.00 that inexorable fact will keep him in penury for life. FAFO meatbag.
To add context: The British period for Malta is 1814 - 1964. Most sources agree these things were made about 100 - 150 years ago, but the exact date is unsure.
This is a graph of the sea rise in the past 140 years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_level_rise#/media/File:1880-_Global_average_sea_level_rise_(SLR)_-_annually.svg
Local sea rise due to global warming is around 30cm, local tides are also around 30cm.
Another issue is that chucklefucks like Jones think that sea level rise is the most pressing problem when it comes to climate change and not things we’re seeing now like much more frequent intense storms, massive wildfires and a spike in heat exhaustion deaths.
You have to be a special kind of dipshit to live in Texas all your life and not notice the hurricanes are getting worse. And Alex Jones is a special kind of dipshit.
You just have to file the forms in the correct order, spin around 6 times while while whistling, and cover yourself in yellow tassels. This will make you immune to maritime (read: all) laws.
Yeah, “big-box-banknote bankers” or even “big-box-bank-ers” makes a little more sense and has the right kind of contempt for this rant. And to be fair, with the consolidation of small banks into major players these days, a tad relatable.
Just because you don’t remember it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. You had to learn it at some point. You weren’t born with a lexicon of slang that revealed itself when it suddenly became modern/relevant lol
Don’t forget how casual the r word was. Every comedy of the 90s and 2000s called somebody that. It’s still too commonly used but nothing like it was back then.
We had a couple weeks calling people “F.A.G.s’ and “M.A.G.s” for 'female ass grabber” and “male ass grabber”. As in someone how grabd a females ass or or a male ass. I have no idea how the teachers were able to do anything about that with a straight face.
I think this is true, but I also grew up without Internet or social media so maybe things were more regional as opposed to this larger shared culture those things have enabled. So that may be part of it?
You have a point, but when I was a kid we at least made sure the slang came from black people first. I don’t think anything good can come from white kids out there making up words.
This bit is slightly less removed from reality than the average SovCit rant. The collateral is the house, but the piece of paper (deed/lien) says who legally owns the house. Without that documentation, the bank wouldn’t accept the fact that a house merely exists, as collateral for the loan.
But like any good SovCit, they take the grain of truth and try to fill a canyon with it.
It’s even a bit more esoteric than that. Depending on the jurisdiction even the deed is worthless unless you registered it and/or gave adequate notice to anyone with a current or future interest in the property (newspaper announcement is a classic example). This is one of the many reasons that a County Register of Deeds is so important.
Offtopic: I had to laugh at my dentist’s text reminder of my time and date, with a line saying that late attendance would incur a £1 per minute fee.
I know it’s supposed to be a deterrent, but if the terms worked both ways and the patient charged the business £1 a minute late, they’d be bankrupt within the month!
I do understand that it’s the minority that ruin it for the rest of folk though, especially in a model like the UK’s NHS provision.
They will if it’s more than 45 days late, when that starts is usually going to be ‘from tax day’, that can vary, but it’s usually for reasons that would typically be your fault (filed late, etc). They even use the same rates they would charge you if you were late to pay them. This has never happened to me, but I’m told that the interest accrual is automatic, supposedly don’t even have to ask.
I’m normally critical of Biden but this is one of the few times I’ll say it. Biden staying in the race is the best thing he can do.
It doesn’t matter when he drops out at this point, the time to do that was 8 months ago. If he drops out now and there’s an open convention, democrats lose in November. If he drops out after the convention, and the DNC chooses a different candidate to replace him, Democrats lose in November.
The last time anything similar happened, there were riots outside the DNC in Chicago and Hubert Humphrey safely handed the office to Richard Nixon.
