Foreigner in France here. Couldn’t be more wrong Beautiful country, amazing food. People are… People. Good and bad, as with every other place. Plenty of places I didn’t feel welcome. France wasn’t one of it. Except Marseille. Yeah, avoid Marseille. (Altho it has its good parts)

nyctre ,

Nothing happens to them because all the bad parts of Romania aren’t in places where backpackers would go. Only “bad” part of visiting Romania is that tourism isn’t as developed as in other countries. So not as many signs/information/buses to and from places. That also makes lots of places harder to find and reach but also a lot more pristine. Romania’s countryside is one of the best, hands down.

nyctre ,

I mean the actual city, not the stuff around it. Mostly because there’s a lot of gangs and thieves and such. There’s actually a few streets that ste fully controlled by gangs afaik. Like barricades made out of couches and shit and ambulances need an escort to get in and such.

Otherwise yeah, Aix, Cassis, and most of Provence are awesome.

nyctre ,

Can’t find the original anymore as it’s been a few years, but there was this post on reddit about a street view car in Marseille. This is an article covering the thing. Nobody claimed it was fake at the time. Showed it to people that used to live in Marseille and they didn’t seem surprised either.

nyctre ,

What makes you say that about nice? Been there many times and I’m not a fan of the city, but for other reasons. I’d have imagined a far right shithole to be…whiter, if nothing else.

nyctre ,

He’s literally using the wrong pronouns and name for his transgender daughter. He’s literally said he agrees with JK Rowling’s transphobic comments.

You know how after a certain time has passed it’s no longer a spoiler to talk about how Vader is Luke’s father? Well, there’s certain stuff that’s so obvious and widely known that people will stop believing that you don’t know about it and will assume you’re trolling. The fact that you keep insisting that you haven’t seen evidence of him being queerphobe is on you at this point, imo.

nyctre ,
nyctre ,

No, you don’t understand. The problem is that those people haven’t had enough time to bring upon real communism. Real communism hasn’t been reached yet. They want to let the Maos and Stalins of the world have enough time to reach communism. Things will surely be different with the next guy.

nyctre ,

Rural US most likely. Place is too big, too few people to be worth for comoanies to invest. So many places only have 1-2 providers at best, afaik.

nyctre ,

Funny thing is, the person you’re replying to also called the uyghur genocide a us psyop, so… I don’t think they see the problems you’re seeing

nyctre ,

Go to a place where it’s sunny all the time. Then go to somewhere where it’s cloudy all the time. You’ll notice the difference when looking at older people’s skins. So hydration and sunscreen are for sure helpful. All the other aging stuff… Dunno, but I think at least some of them are.

nyctre ,

The funny part is how obvious your lies are. Unless you think all the death and destruction in Ukraine is not actually that but just western propaganda… Which you probably do, based on your post history.

Tldr: lol, tankie!

nyctre ,

Because you claimed that russia can wage brutal wars but they haven’t so far, that they have showed restraint. And all the videos of hospitals and schools and residential buildings and Bucha, etc. Prove otherwise.

And no need to ask questions because I already know all the answers, I’ve read putin’s version of the history, I don’t need to hear it from you as well.

nyctre ,

Yeah, but what about what the US did somewhere else?! Yeah, that’s also bad, never said it wasn’t. Two wrong don’t make a right. And you saying it could’ve been worse is disgusting. Doesn’t change the facts. Also, ofc the infrastructure was less affected in a pretty much defenseless town raped and slaughtered by russians than in other places where there was actual combat. At least try and think for yourself, c’mon.

nyctre ,

Well, yeah, if you’re the sort of person that thinks bucha was not that big of a deal because there’s people living there now, then you also believe that the us decides what happens in ukraine and it’s why those people are fighting. They’re us slaves dying for western imperialism. Ofc if we were arguing that, yeah I’d want the us to let the ukranians surrender and allow russia to regroup so they can find another reason a few years later to come back as they’ve been doing for the past 30 years.

nyctre ,

Sorry I’m off work now so won’t waste my free time to reply to that. Bottom line is: I believe you’re repeating russian propaganda and since I’ve actually spoken to other Russians and even Ukranians affected by the war, and since I believe actions speak louder than words (Georgia, Transnistria, Chechnya, Ukraine, etc), I don’t believe a word you’re saying.

You believe your history, I’ll believe mine.

nyctre ,

Big words just to say “no, you!”. Nice try.

nyctre ,

I’m good, thanks. I’m not gonna change your mind and other people aren’t gonna bother to read all this anyway, so there’s really no point.

nyctre ,

The employees are already making 500k and the raise would be to 600k, in this example. You misread the op.

nyctre ,

Yeah, but… What can you do? Medicine is not a science!

nyctre ,

Denmark has not introduced the euro, following a rejection by referendum in 2000, but the Danish krone is pegged closely to the euro (with the rate 7.46038±2.25%) in ERM II, the EU’s exchange rate mechanism.

So if euro gets stronger, so does the krone. If euro drops, so does the krone.

nyctre ,

Who decides what’s bad and what’s ok?

nyctre ,

You mean the system that makes it illegal to have an abortion or to marry the person you love if they happen to be the same sex as you? Sign me up then cause, yeah, only bad people suffer in that system

In response to the lemmy.ml moderation polemic: beware of bad faith agents!

One of the biggest topics of these days is that of mods in lemmy.ml banning and censoring people because they’re Tankies. This has had a rather sizeable discussion of people agreeing and even arguing for defederating ml. I’m sure a lot of people are arguing from good intentions, but there’s also bad faith actors among...

Hehe, you reminded me of this amazing song. Thanks. And no, I didn’t reply to the wrong thread. But at the end of the song she says “beware of me”, which is quite fitting for this thread, I feel.

nyctre ,

Dunno about best, but This is the most recent one, I think

nyctre ,

I’m sorry but wasn’t Marxism-Leninism developed by Stalin? You’re agreeing with Stalin, not Lenin, aren’t you? Partly with Lenin as well, sure, but you’re forgetting Stalin here. Or is that a marketing thing?

nyctre ,

I thought Lenin used his interpretation of the communist manifesto to develop Leninism (even if he didn’t call it that). Then Stalin “improved” on that and developed Marxism-Leninism and then Mao “improved” it further and made Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. They’re all Marxism, but like… Super Saiyan 1,2,3 etc versions of them.

nyctre ,

For the same reason young Germans should care. For the same reason everyone should care. Because fascism is bad and everyone should listen to these people and vote against it. Op simply pointed out that there’s a pretty fascistic government in power right now in Israel and hopefully the youth(and everyone else for that matter) will take some inspiration and vote against it.

At least that’s what I take from that.

nyctre ,

My bad. You’re right. Then yeah, no, they wouldn’t. Cause the message won’t reach the most of them. They would care if they understood that these people are survivors of a different fascist government. They’re what Palestinians might be 80 years from now. It’s history. Except they can learn it from living people instead of books.

nyctre ,

Of course. But the more people(and different people too, not just journalists and politicians) tell them, the more likely it is for the message to finally go through

nyctre ,

How do you know what the limits of this technology is? How do you know that they couldn’t be able to reach that point in 5-10-20-50-100-1000 years?

Unless you’re thinking of the current iteration of the technology and not its future evolutions.

nyctre ,

Holy crap… Did you guys read the bottom bit about Georgia voters?

"Another man Bob, playing with his bluegrass band outside a café, was more sure. He wanted a positive outcome for Donald Trump and said a conviction would not change his mind. What would?

“If he was convicted of murder, I’d be like that’s not a guy I want to go for!” "

Not surprised, tbh, but I still find it ridiculous to read.

nyctre ,

Except if you’d read the article you’d see that’s bullshit and doesn’t support your claim at all.

Quotes from the text: “And the Russians knew these provisions would make it more difficult for the Ukrainians to accept the rest of the treaty. They might, therefore, be seen as poison pills.”

“Still, the claim that the West forced Ukraine to back out of the talks with Russia is baseless.”

And calls it “putin’s manipulative spin”

nyctre ,

First of all, that’s your source, not mine. Also, if they wanted to keep their warmongering interests hidden why even publish that article? You make no sense

Secondly, really? Your argument is “you’re supposed to believe putin, not the ones that conducted interviews, did research and wrote the article”? That’s biblethumping-level of weak, c’mon… “Nooooo, you’re interpreting the holy texts wrong”

nyctre ,

The only thing the article shows is that putin is a lying sack of shit and that they’ve been negotiating a peace since february 2022. The fact that they couldn’t agree on terms and you blaming it on western support is purely your interpretation, has nothing to do with facts. It literally said in the article that russia’s first first peace proposal was capitulation. And negotiations brought it down to “neutral” russian puppet, at which point negotiations crumbled. There’s no bias there, that’s what happened. Even the last version of the draft was something that was unacceptable to Ukraine. Anyway, I’m done. You’ll keep blaming Zelensky, because that’s all you’re capable of doing, I’ll keep blaming putin, because he’s the one that started this and the one that can stop it. There’s no point in arguing further.

nyctre ,

How cheap is weed where you are? Or how expensive is alcohol? Cause that doesn’t sound like my experience

nyctre ,

If there’s bars with weed, yeah, I imagine a pre rolled joint will be about the same.

nyctre ,

Last week an idiot driving on the 3rd lane. Leftmost lane. Fastest lane. However you wanna call it. Realized last second that she was gonna miss her exit from the highway.

Decides fuck spending 5-10 minutes taking the next exit. From her lane, while only like 1-2 meters past me, decides to pull in front of me and starts braking. Then does the same to the guy on my right and again to the guy trying to exit. Thankfully I was paying attention and I started braking as soon as I saw her pulling in front of me. And thankfully the guy behind me was far enough and all. Nobody hit anybody, but it was fucking scary.

People are fucking idiots.

nyctre ,

Look, at this point it’s just an agree to disagree thing. You think it’s ok for companies to do irreversible operations as long as subjects are desperate enough to consent. Others think that’s abusive. There’s obviously no changing your mind. That’s ok, just move on.

And no. If you’ve spent any amount of time here then you know that a ton of people here are also against bezos and pretty much every other billionaires out there.

And for what it’s worth, I do see your point. And I’d probably be inclined to agree. But at the same time, I do see the fact that it’s morally questionable

nyctre ,

You’d need to invest 1mil in a 3000% return stock in order to make 30 mil like the gold option. If you bought fb when it was lowest and sold when it was highest, you’d get 2158% return. There’s stuff like Amazon, coca cola, etc. That had much higher % gain but you’ll need for that company to exist and then wait for it to explode.

If you already have a lot of money to invest, sure, your strategy might be worth. Otherwise, double gold sounds better.

nyctre , (edited )

No, they’re all bullshit stats. Finland is #1 /capita with Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark also super high but not quite as high. If we’re talking total, then Norway isn’t even in top 20. Too few people. Top is something like USA, Brazil, then other big countries like Germany, France, etc.

Also France is 2nd biggest manga consumer. Googled that a few months ago when I noticed a bunch of manga stores on the street and went into one and it had lots of people.

nyctre ,

There’s usually a long explanation for these types of things which most of the time boils down to “because that’s how people have been saying it and it’s become the norm.”

Many linguistical mistakes have been overused to the point of them changing their meaning. Take “decimation”. It used to mean to kill 1 in every 10. Because it sounds cool and has been used in a lot of media, it now mainly means to kill or destroy a large part of something.

nyctre ,

You’re the only one arguing that it’s not. It’s in the name that everyone agrees with. “assisted suicide”. Yes, it’s suicide, we’re all agreeing on that. And ofc having a legal alternative is preferable because as we’ve established, it’s better for everyone if it’s done this way.

nyctre ,

Ok, sure.

“Suicide isn’t “awesome,” and “good on her for sticking it out” in the context of suicide would pass as ironic edgelord humor 20 years ago on 4chan.

It’s terrifying that the exact same action, when done in a way that’s “clean” and legal makes people say things like that that presumably nobody would say otherwise. Setting up a legal pathway for suicide doesn’t change what it is.”

Yeah, the admitting it’s suicide is the only thing you have an issue with. Nah, you have an issue with all of it, you just wanna argue your way around it. Anyway, have a nice day.

nyctre , (edited )

What would cause it to do that? Only thing I can think of is gravity, no? That would imply there’s something in the middle that keeps everything from straying too far?

Or do you simply mean that our perception of space is limited and we simply can’t perceive it properly and thus we’d go in one direction and end up back where we started? But if that’s the case, it means we’ve also misunderstood light? Doesn’t it go infinitely? So shouldn’t there be a light source that reaches us from different directions?
