As a former professor, offer me twenty bucks and I'll laugh in your face and tell you to get the fuck out of my office. I say this as an honest educator, but the answer would probably be the same from a dishonest one.
Then, there was the Middle Eastern prince, who's father, the king, was funding chairs and paying for a major expansion of the college. We will leave it with his having a different set of relaxed rules guiding him. The king was generous when his son did well in his classes.
Something else is going on with your setup, I block graph.facebook.com via DNS too and Ally works fine, both app and browser.
Your screenshot looks like you’re also blocking ntp.org which could definitely screw with a banking app, and launchdarkly.com may also be the problem if they’re loading assets from that service.
LaunchDarkly essentially just serves up true/false values for services to grab. It can be useful to update code functionality without having to rebuild / recompile. However, any service that uses the launch darkly API should have a default state for their values to fall back on, so it shouldn’t cause any major issues if LaunchDarkly can’t be reached.
Or go create your own community and block any content you don’t want to see there. That’s kind of the beauty of Lemmy, don’t like the content you see? Block the users, unsubscribe from the community, go make your own, or bitch about it publicly in an unproductive post. 🤡
This is not due to subscriptions - the same thing can be seen logged out. Additionally, communities you are not subscribed to show up in the home feed - you would need to block such communities to not see content from them. You could make the argument that one should really just browse communities you’re interested in without viewing the home page, which is fair. However, take technology for example. There are many positive innovations that can be talked about. Instead - Right now, the posts in order, summarized in the same format as my post would be: 1. Corporation bad (ally bank). 2. global warming dystopia (Texas heat) 3. corporation bad (Netflix raising prices) 4. corporation bad (Elon Musk sued) 5. regular post 6. corporation bad (playstation store crap) 7. regular post 8 through 11 is corporation bad and AI dystopia news.
This. That way you’ll only see what you explicitly care about and have joined. You can select the “subscribed” button at the top or make it permanent by changing your profile settings, which means you won’t have to manually select “subscribed” when opening Lemmy.
The main problem I see is that news outlets, people, and link aggregators like Lemmy/Kbin, mainly focus on the negative side instead of the positive said.
For example, focusing on the negative side would be "Climate change is here and we are doomed". Focusing on the positve side would be "These are the things you can do to alleviate climate change". Climate change is the main topic in both information sources, but changing the focus means better discussions, less ragebait and doombait, and a healthier environment for all of us.
Linking to news outlets won't change that, because we all know how they work. But I agree with OP, ragebait doesn't benefit anyone and only harms our mental health.
Unsubscribing or blocking communities/magazines is something that we can do, but that also prevents us to read other kind of news that are posted on those communities/magazines.
"These are the things you can do to alleviate climate change" That's still negative. It's blaming climate change on people instead of corporations and governments, a trend started by bp
Have to agree with others that this looks like an episode of FanboysGoneWild, but there are reasons to question, if not outright ceasing to use Brave and they center around their CEO, Brendan Eich. nytimes.com/…/brave-brendan-eich-covid-19.html
Sure, I disagree with him regarding social issues, but how is questioning unscientific and inconsistent “health measures” and the proven liar who is their spokesperson right wing? To use the bird metaphor, is it flying upside down? Is that why things that are actually left wing (progressivism, skepticism, political accountability) called right wing and things that are actually right wing (authoritarianism, religious devotion to the state, feelings mattering more than reality) called left wing? Is it Opposite Day?
I’m trying to avoid such negativity in my life, becoming a new, better me and all that, so I’ll just say this and exit the conversation:
One of the very first things Fauci did in the pandemic was lie about masks. Which part of that was the lie, though: the original statement or the follow-up “admitting to the noble lie”? Which one would have made him and his friends more money and better saved face?
Sure, he made a statement based on incomplete information, like scientists literally always do, as the information is never complete. Especially not when you can’t wait for results of multi-year testing because millions of people are dropping dead.
My feed is mainly memes and porn. Maybe you should browse with different options.
It also seems you're confusing news you don't like with 'doombait', 'ragebait' and 'corporation bad'. Really, this post is the most distressing one i've seen on lemmy or kbin recently.
I've been here a month and have to agree. This feels like the most troll post I've seen, but is closely followed by similar ones asking the Fediverse to be more palatable to "normies."
