The fact that he’s an uninspiring and largely disappointing president is what makes dark Brandon funny. If we wanted to laugh about a president who really does act like a demonic entity, we’d just vote for the other guy.

Kusimulkku ,

To me it just feels forced, which totally ruins it. I’ve seen similar memes about turbo boring politicians and that’s funny, but I guess with Trump being a legit case of this sorta nonsense makes it feel different.

SatansMaggotyCumFart ,

I know, it should be Bernie Sanders.

Because America will totally vote in a self-described socialist.

Cowbee ,

Unironically yes, increasingly. I know Lemmy is very leftist, and thus doesn’t reflect America in general, but the more time goes on the more left each generation becomes, and Gen Z is by far the most leftist generation in America currently. Gen Alpha will have to wait and see, but for now America is more likely than ever before to vote for Bernie.

Cowbee ,

That’s blatantly bad-faith, Biden got more votes in 2020 than Hillary did as well. Voter participation was far higher.

SatansMaggotyCumFart ,

Hillary didn’t run in 2020.

You’re telling me voter attitude is changing, I’m showing you the concrete proof it isn’t.

Back up your feelings with some facts.

Cowbee ,

I didn’t say she did. Biden got more votes in 2020 than Hillary did in 2016, because voter turnout was far larger in 2020. Increasingly, Gen Z is more okay with Socialism and actually prefers it over Capitalism, something unthinkable for Boomers and Gen X.

SatansMaggotyCumFart ,

Those aren’t facts.

Facts are that Trump got 10 million more votes in 2020 then 2016 which disproves what are you arguing.

Cowbee ,

They are facts. And, facts are additionally that more people voted in 2020 than 2016, and Trump lost both the popular and electoral vote in 2020.

Are you a bot?

SatansMaggotyCumFart ,

Trump did lose but he had the strongest support he ever has.

Interesting question about me being a bot. Are you?

Yep, and his support is and always has been a minority.

I get the intent here, but it’s a really bad comparison. It’s certainly easy to get confused about without base level awareness of finance and accounting things.

The DoD is a government cost center. It doesn’t generate revenue. Therefore nothing to tax. Meaning nothing for the IRS to audit.

That’s why the federal government has other audit authorities and often contracts independent auditors to help. Those people are auditing department spending and assets related though. This type of audit is not to check if taxes are owed. It’s more like making sure the department bank account is correct to keep this simple.

Gonna add a comment to my upvote: I agree with this so fucking much. I look back at the joyous days when I had… fuck if I know how many websites, each dedicated to its own thing, most with its own userbase, so unique and so defined. The only good thing about Reddit for me was gaming communities that, unfortunately, replaced actual forums that once allowed me to engage with passionate people and look for relevant info, even if it’s been years since its creation.

It’s probably just me being unaware, but gaming communities these days feel dead outside their respective subreddits and some Discord servers - and the latter is an even worse experience because the form factor of an endless IRC-clone that actually seems to save chat history is pretty fucking dumb more than it is convenient. If anyone has any suggestions there, shoot.

(Edit: what I’m about to say is a good bit wrong, but I’m not going to try and hide my mistakes. This article has a more complete history: independent.co.uk/…/why-israel-and-palestine-conf…)

I don’t support the violence at all, but this isn’t a (direct) result of imperialism.

After WW2, the Allies were like, “what do we do with all these Jews? We don’t want them in our countries.” Then they thought, “why not Jerusalem?” But a bunch of Arabs were living there, but the Allies really didn’t want more Jews, so they just dumped them all in modern Israel, told the Arabs this is Jews’ land now, and recognized Israel as a state. Palestine has a right to be pissed. So this isn’t so much an imperialism problem as much as a racism problem.

But still, Hamas are evil fuckers that take shit too far. Israel definitely is not the good guy and is not helping the situation at all, but this kind of escalation just makes shit worse for everyone.

So… People who are hungry will vote for whatever brings food to their table today, so they don’t really have a choice, because those policies or politicians are not actually on their side, they are just benefiting from the misery of others.

I’m brown indigenous, he’s Indian and I live in a mostly white area so I thought I’d take an extra step to be nice to someone who is different because I know what that feels like.

Last time I saw him, he answered me back with ‘Why?’ Every time I asked something about his life

I asked how good his family was … has he been traveling anywhere special lately … what have you been up to?

I don’t know him and I just wanted to chat about something, anything and at one point I felt strange.

But he was good about it … I told him I was just wanted to chat … he laughed and said it was alright and we talked for a while.

The world is getting weird I find and it’s getting harder to just talk to anyone without some form of suspicion between people.

You’re not imagining things, the world is not just “getting weird” but division is sown our way from a multitude of places for their own profits and agendas.

Yet, we must be silenced. The people can not be allowed to speak. Even as dystopia gives the diseased members of the species ever more powerful and abstract tools to divide us, they still fear us talking.

That’s because what you’re doing is literally all it takes to begin eroding the artificial pen walls. We’re made to communicate and tell each other stories, that’s deeply ingrained.

What we’re losing slowly and globally is our sense of cohesion. Neighbor to neighborhood, resident to city, citizen to country, human to human.

All of our innate mental structures that trend towards “making it all work, no matter who is helped because it helps me too” are constantly being twisted and attacked. But we are what we are, so keep fighting the good fight.

This sort of stuff is part of upbringing that should be instilled in our children so that they don’t grow up and make those mistakes.

Even more importantly, we should all lead by example and show them, by example, by being more active in the causes we care about enough to pursue so that life is more meaningful than mere existence.

This is how I was raised, and that’s how I intend to raise my children instead of cowering away from it and choosing not to have children which seems like the easy way out and really, is pretty pathetic.
