Common misconception, but the towel dipped in mayonaise (often paired with a well aged Trapist) is very typical for a Belgian breakfast, not the Germans.
nvidia has always been hostile to open source, as far back as i can remember.
back when nvidia bought 3dfx they took down the source code for the open 3dfx drivers within days, if not on the same day. i remember because i had just gotten myself a sweet voodoo 5 some weeks before that, and the great linux support was the reason i chose it… of course the driver code survived elsewhere, but it told me all i needed to know about that company.
also: linus’ rant wasn’t just a fun stunt, it was necessary to get nvidia to properly cooperate with the open source community if they want to keep making money running linux on their hardware.
I was just thinking about all the websites that have the Facebook logo, the Instagram logo, and the Twitter logo on their pages. That’s just supposed to be an X now?
The King James Tiberius Kirk Version is a better translation than most. Even keeps the line about beating bat’leths into ploughshares with the original context to show it as a shameful act.
It’s not that you misquoted a line or something like that. The dictionary quote is an extremely well known saying that originated in the Bible. Zapp’s line in futurama is literally parodying that saying. By thinking the dictionary is in any way referencing the Futurama scene, you have revealed that you didn’t even get the joke in the first place.
Those devs have also pointed out that the Fediverse and Lemmy make it possible for you to have an instance with the exact opposite position. And there’s nothing they can do about it.
This really isn’t the scandal people want it to be. Except maybe reddit employees?
I get that of course, but a lot of people are going to be put off that the main dev is a genocide denier, there’s no way around that. I’ve seen mastodon posts of activists specifically telling people to not use Lemmy for that reason. In fact it’s equivalent to the attitude I see around here of people saying we need to silence fascists at all costs. They just see it as a scarlet mark on the whole endeavor.
We need a way to answer that while making people aware Lemmy is designed so that it doesn’t matter.
I recognize my post didn’t really convey that. I dunno, I’m not terribly charismatic.
Might seem a little far-fetched, but i’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the community that basically worships conspicuous consumption of electronics with complete disregard for e-waste and electrical consumption in support of being a better gamer, a consumer identity fabricated by marketing companies, and have thus turned it into an implicit contest might not be interested in practicality, liberty, nor freely available goods unless they’re the most visually appealing
Beards are where the Communism is stored. As the ruling class become richer and more obscene, class consciousness grows amongst the working class. Hence, beards.
I hate windows as much as the next linux user but I have to admit windows has been very stable for me despite having uptimes in the months with my work laptop.
No Linux user is gonna go “perhaps your right, I should switch to windows for its stability”
You’ve had your work laptop run well for a few months with your on off daily usage. I’m sure there’s many ppl here with various distros running for years without a single reboot.
Personally I have one running as a mediaserver that hasn’t been offline in two years, and I’m sure that that’s young in this forum.
I don’t expect anyone to switch to windows, I’m just saying this myth about windows being unstable does not align with my experiences at all. I haven’t even seen a blue screen since windows 7. All the weird behavior I encountered was fixed by replacing hardware, and without reinstalling windows. Sure, linux might run even longer without rebooting, but saying windows can’t go past 2 days is just a gross exaggeration.
I literally turned on my work laptop yesterday and it blue screened on boot. (Win10). Didn’t even get an uptime of 5 minutes. Its not a myth that windows is unstable (in comparison with Linux and macOS).
And B. Take a joke, clearly my initial post is taking the piss. Windows is less stable than Linux, simply a fact. Hence the comment so people can have a laugh.
There’s a key difference: One is based on just your financial history, only on the numbers. The other is based on everything you do all the time, which is way way way more privacy invasive.
But does the corporate data collection factor into your FICO score? Unless there’s some new scary development I’m not aware of, the FICO score is only based on the following: length and number of accounts, revolving utilization, if payments are on time, and the loans you have made (based on the size and frequency of them).
You and your friends’ social media activity, among numerous other things, can absolutely affect your ability to get a loan, a job, a rental contract, etc.
When you’re rejected for a loan by a bank in the USA you’re entitled by law to know the reason. If your credit is good, your job is stable, and you’ve got no history of finance-related crime then you won’t be denied a loan. If you’re denied a loan because of the type of porn you browsed or some shit you said on Twitter, then that’s grounds for a discrimination lawsuit.
When you get your credit report, there is a statistical breakdown of your score and all of the sources on the report. So, if there is something as stupid as a social media adjustment, you can contest that.
If I clicked every link sent to me by some CCP cuck on lemmy I’d be reading for the next 87 years straight and none of my questions would be answered.
If you can argue my point then do so, if you can’t then stfu. I made a pretty simple statement, now you have the opportunity to retort. Everything impacting your credit score is listed directly on your credit report, and you can contest these entries.
Edit: I can’t respond to replies from the deeply unserious users of the cowardly instances that have defederated from HB, nor those instances so filled with liberalism and foolishness (but I repeat myself) that we had no choice but to defederate from them. Go read a book.
It is real, it was first put into use in 2014 with a six year plan to make it fully operational, but it’s never reached that point. It not being as big as the CCP intended doesn’t make it not real, it’s still in use right now.
