Huh, why would one make up a bird? A reference to the memespiracy theory that birds don’t exist?

tourist ,
@tourist@lemmy.world avatar

listen here bucko

don’t call it a conspiracy theory

it’s confirmed, just do your research

have you ever seen a bird? Like really see it up close?

yah dint think so

joelfromaus ,

I’ve only ever seen a bird up-close to replace its AAA battery.

AAA? Sheesh! How old is that bird? The ones I’ve dealt with all use 10150 lithium.

Back in the day I used to store a skeleton of one under my bed; twas quite funny when my parents found it. Also, a few of those flew into my face when I was retrieving it. Does that count?

This was my first thought. Or just referring to women as “birds”.

I have a windows VM to use Affinity (Photo, Publisher, and Designer), a Pro level suite that will be fine for most work, and is pay once, not subscription.

I use office online, as a PWA.

I very rarely have to boot into Windows.

hayk OP ,

What do you actually use as a VM backend? VirtualBox limits the VRam you can allocate, and other options (vmware) I’m not even sure work with linux.

MargotRobbie , to memes in The three faces of the fediverse

The beauty of the federated platform is that you get to choose the version of the person you want to follow: would you rather follow the President Biden on Threads, or the President Biden on Femboy Breeding College? It’s a multiple choice question.

Of course, it’s probably best if the US government setup their own domain like mastodon.whitehouse.gov if they really cared to have an official account that they have full control over.

True. The name does feel out of place tho

Telodzrum ,

Only until you scroll down to the ‘K’ section of the “All Applications” tab and suddenly everything makes a lot of frustrating sense.

MildlyArdvark ,

What do you mean “scroll down to K”?

backhdlp ,
@backhdlp@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

It’s sorted alphabetically

MildlyArdvark ,

Yes. Such ordered. Much K.

Telodzrum ,

The group “kde-applications” has over 100 entries that start with the letter ‘k’.

takeheart ,

Funny. Your observation made me think that for the purpose of finding stuff it’s most efficient to have a perfectly linear distribution across all letters. Ie if there is 26 letters and I type out a single one I’m precluding 25/26 applications.

Of course the application menu uses fuzzy search meaning it looks at the whole string not just the beginning and also crawls through meta data and tags.

Still for searching it seems most efficient if a language uses all letters evenly 🤔.

thisbenzingring ,

Kinda kinky, keeping kowtow kicking.

I know, the naming scheme is fairly obvious, but it’s the only regular program with a german name (that I know of)

Telodzrum ,

I didn’t even know it’s German. Was that deliberate or a happy coincidence because it’s a hard ‘c’ in English and they seem to turn all words that start with a hard ‘c’ into apps that start with a ‘k’?

ricdeh ,

Does it work flawlessly on Android, iOS, and desktop? I’m really asking, because I ditched Chrome when it was less shitty than it currently is…

Waffelson ,

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

All iOS browsers have to use Webkit (or did last time I checked). So there’s not much of a point of running Firefox on iOS. It’s basically the same browser no matter what browser it says it is.

RidderSport ,

Isn’t the EU in the process of killing that Webkit-necessity?

nudnyekscentryk ,
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

It is, but Apple being Apple, they are going all malicious compliance and will break evening else for non-Safari browsers lol

Also this only applies in EU. To use 3rd party apps stores you won’t be able to leave the EU for more than 30 days at a time as well

Gemini24601 ,
@Gemini24601@lemmy.world avatar

The Orion browser for iOS is capable of using Firefox and Chrome extensions, although support can be a little spotty. Ublock works quite well though.

maccentric ,

If it still works, I believe it has been neutered

nudnyekscentryk ,
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

It works 100% still as far as I can tell (my parents use Chrome with BO)

maccentric ,

Till June, when Google starts dropping support for manifest V2 and you’ll have to use uBO lite.

nudnyekscentryk ,
@nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info avatar

I still firmly believe there is at least one sane engineer there who’ll discourage this, knowing this will drive the last few tech-savvy users and their family members and close friends away and I will die on this hill

xe3 ,

Google is in the process of undermining the effectiveness of uBlock Origin and other adblockers on Chrome and other Chromium browsers. I believe that change comes into effect this year.

But even before those changes were announced, uBlock Origin’s creator and main dev has stated that uBO is most capable on Firefox.

@vort3@lemmy.ml avatar

Same for me. Arch is great and I’m happy with it, but I need MS Office (I know about Libre Office, but there are files that are made in MS Office and I have to work with them) and at least CorelDraw (at least until SVG spec allows tab characters in text objects) to fully work in Linux. Until then, I have to use Windows :-(

Quik ,

Have you tried OnlyOffice? Their main selling point is compatibility with all of the Microsoft Office formats, so maybe that would suit your use case.

vort3 ,
@vort3@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m not sure how it can be even remotely compatible without the fields support? It’s not even possible to have something as basic as current chapter name (heading) in page header/footer. This is essential. Also, LibreOffice has this.

Aatube ,

Isn't LibreOffice able to open and export to MS files?

All this photo would take is either a friend hanging back and snapping a pic with their phone, or a random person walking behind who thought it was funny taking a photo, the coats are noticeable enough that someone could have seen it coming far enough ahead of time to get their phone ready for the photo
