You know he can pack the courts if he really cared, right? Y’all think the lifetime catholic who is against abortion is really on your side for this one?
That only works if they don’t have the Internet to fall back on. Once someone loses their support group they tend to glom on to whatever will have them, and if only bad people will have you you will become a worse person.
This is part of the problem of our current political climate. I don’t know how you can constitute ‘not bullying’ as ‘accepting them’, but the complete lack of nuance in every conversation is what drives radicalization.
You can’t ‘bully’ transphobes into being an ally. That’s not how people work.
I get it. Transphobes are pieces of shit with the most punchable faces. But when you find yourself staring down into one, you need to ask yourself if you are going say what feels good and right to you, or what will make them just a little less transphobic to the next trans person they meet.
Deradicalization doesn’t happen overnight. It may take transphobes a hundred, ten, or even just one trans person to show them undeserved kindness before they realize they were wrong.
I’m not saying it’s anyone’s job to do this. I’m saying that sometimes, maybe a trans person or an ally may be having a good day and find it in themselves to deal with transphobic bullshit just to show transphobes that they are the better person. If they do, I’m saying that we shouldn’t ruin all the progress and emotional labor they’ve invested in by bullying the transphobe.
In one I’m sure very rare instance, I was able to get my dad to understand why the things he had said were hurtful. Though I guess his type might be less radicalized and more just plain ignorant. Doesn’t excuse transphobia of course but sometimes, maybe once in a blue moon, education does the trick.
(All copy-pasted from what I’ve written in the linux_gaming subreddit)
This is the same guy who compared Linux to moving to Canada once, had moved away from PC gaming because of “rampant piracy” only to return back to it because he wanted that sweet, sweet pie of the market Valve had ripened, built the shittiest store imaginable, that was initially literally spyware and took 3 years to get a fucking shopping cart feature, did all these shitty exclusives to keep the said store afloat, instead of you know, trying to improve it? The same guy who allowed shitty creepto games into his store only when Steam had banned them (btw does anyone remember that Epic Shit Store was supposed to be a “highly curated store”)?
And this is the same company who specifically makes sure Fortnite won’t run on Linux because they literally use several anti cheat software, apart from the one they’re literally developing themselves, deliberately to NOT make Linux run it (such confidence on their software amirite :V)? The same company who has (hopefully had) a dumbass developer complaining about Steam Deck .
And there is also the matter of Rocket League, Artstation, Bandcamp, and so many other things.
Epic and Tim Sweeney are the most two-faced scumbags I’ve ever witnessed in my life, and it still fucking hurts me because I’ve loved the Unreal series so goddamn much, man.
In fact, I’m more angry at Heroic and Lutris and co. for allowing games to be installed from that store. Epic shouldn’t get this amount of work done for them for free.
Of course theyll pull the first season, how else would the network drive people to go sign up for their separate shitty streaming site that barely works for an additional $9/mo?
Meanwhile your friendly neighborhood pirate has the first, second, third AND fourth seasons, as well as all the extras and the Christmas special, always available all the time…
Piped lets you view youtube videos without being tracked by google (and I guess without ads, though pretty sure uBlock Origin will do that anyway).
Peertube is like an alternative site to youtube. It’s a different place to post your video (you can’t use it to watch YouTube videos to my knowledge). The site is federated like Lemmy, and it uses bittorrent to download videos so people viewing the video at the same time will send part of the data to each other, reducing load on the server.

This is mostly right, I think I’d only clarify that it’s not a singular site, much like Lemmy isn’t, as instead it’s more site software to spin up a YouTube-like video hosting site. Also you’re right that you can’t use it to watch videos as you might via Piped/Invidious, unless the creator has also posted their video to a PeerTube site/instance.
Last little point that’s not super important to know for regular folks is that it’s not using bittorrent for helping distribute video loads, it’s WebRTC. Still peer to peer, just a different approach to it.
There is no Nordic model. The Nordics have substantially different economic histories and have developed in different ways at different times. Finland was poor until really very recently, Denmark was and still is a colonial exploiter, Norway got oil rich, Iceland was a haven for bankers and tax cheats, and Sweden only saw a recent blip of social progress from the 40s into the 70s and then destroyed the labor movement that built those gains over the previous 20 years with the impressive equality achieved in that period rapidly eroding back to the 1920s when you look at disparate investment in education and other ways of funneling public benefits to the already wealthy. And don’t forget that Sweden are colonial bastards towards the Sami as well, and still are looting their way through those spoils for resource wealth.
Anyone who tells you there even is a Nordic model is a fucking idiot.
reminds me of hulu in the early days. What’s the point, why would I ever trust your service if you’re just going to haphazardly throw episodes up there?
I remember when Hulu first came out and everyone kept telling me it was free. Then I’d try to watch something on it and it was only 15-30 second clips. Then I found out my friends were just stupid and didn’t realize they’re parents were paying for it
There was definitely a lot of free, full feature content on Hulu at the beginning though. I’m pretty sure it’s the only reason anyone ever signed up. Streaming ads during the Netflix golden era was an unfathomable regression back to cable, but we accepted it at that price.
