Why would people do this? We want the hughest amount of users we can, and for most people to believe in FOSS or even copyleft philosophy, but this just pushes people away. Just use whatever app you like best and maybe donate to incentivize the app you believe in. But to just relenlessly mock non-FOSS apps only hurts the community and doesn’t foster growth.
While I totally agree with you, this meme isn’t referring to college text books. It’s referring to school supplies and clothes for elementary school children.
The vast majority of public schools in the US are severely underfunded and don’t have enough supplies like markers, disinfectant, crayons, pencils, etc to provide kids and teachers don’t make very much money, yet they often come out of pocket to buy supplies. What has happened as a result, is parents have to purchase many of these supplies to send to school with their kids for the whole classroom to have the items they need. I have three kids in kindergarten and second grade. Their school supply lists were about $150 each. With creative shopping for sales, we managed to get everything about $150 cheaper than listed. We are waiting for the tax-free weekend to buy clothes for all of them.

This infuriates me every year. I always vote for education budget increases and allocations and shit and nothing ever changes. Almost everythhing passes the buck to the individual citizen and its insane.

Battery manufacturers don’t want to have to deal with creating a bunch of custom battery runs, so they end up standardizing and higher level manufacturers buy from there. This is especially true in situations where space isn’t at an absolute premium (like it is in a phone). Open up the battery pack for your cordless drill and you’ll find very standard batteries inside there, probably hooked up in series to get to the desired voltage.
When I first played Morrowind, I was quite surprised when people took offense to me robbing them of all they owned. Now when I play games I’m never sure if theft is a crime or not.
And Morrowind still makes it far too easy to empty complete rooms in NPCs’ homes. They just can’t be in the same room as you.

Like you know something about the world and by saying, “I am not mainstream I am alternative,” you are making yourselves inclusive in some way. You don’t know anything the rest of the world doesn’t already have some idea about. Some sort of secret knowledge. I think my favorite thing I have seen on here is people thinking they are private and secure on the Fediverse. Despite the fact you are on a self hosted instance of someone’s hardware and handing your privacy and security to someone random or an entity at random.
Being inclusive is not how you educate people. It’s how you isolate your knowledge and make people think you are a jerk.

You can do that, but if you don’t want 20 different accounts, I would recommend signing up to just one. Lemmy and any other federated social media system should push posts from other servers to your feed depending on what servers are in region.
Nah. As long as your instance is federating with all the ones that you want to interact with, there isn’t much of a reason to have multiple accounts. However, if you want to see and interact with content that your main instance has blocked, you might then make another account.
I actively avoid buying things with a built in battery. Long ago I spend a pretty good amount on a rechargeable Braun electric razor. A few years later I had to throw it away because the battery stopped taking a charge and I had no way to replace it. I had a drill with the same fate. There was plenty of life left in these devices but not in their custom batteries.
I refuse to buy cordless powertools. I know it's not exactly the same as built-in batteries, but In their short existence, I have already seen proprietary rechargeable batteries become discontinued (My mom wanted to get an extra battery for a handheld vacuum, couldn't find the battery by itself, so bought what she thought was the same model; nope, they changed the battery design, even though the rest of the new vacuum was the same as the old one)
Cordless power tools are absolutely worth it, if you use them even infrequently, and every single contactor I know uses them. The battery packs are ridiculously priced but they wouldn’t be used so ubiquitously (especially by professionals) if they weren’t worth the drawbacks. Having to string out extension cords for every tool would be a nightmare.
I dunno, if you use them infrequently, having to string out a cord shouldn’t be any more of a hassle than for a vacuum, no?
And if you’re buying a cheap, probably-won’t-use-this much tool, I think you can get better power out of a corded tool for the price, which seems like a god tradeoff to me.
It’s be way harder for me to go back to corded tools. Li-Po tools are incredibly convenient. I’ve been able to buy adapters for dewalt batteries that make them work with all kinds of tools and devices (including an adapter for a Dyson handheld vacuum).
Lightweight, powerful, and the batteries can be swapped (as well as a decent amount of aftermarket batteries and adapters).
I have a few, select cordless tools. Drill is the first that comes to mind. I also have a corded drill because it was cheap to buy and has much more torque than the cordless.
Hmmm. Drill might be the only one. Most of my use is around the house so not a lot of need for cordless.
If you're in the US, Ryobi has changed chemistries once or twice, but they haven't changed the voltage or physical format of their batteries for 20+ years.
I use a Logitech Marathon M705 mouse that lasts 3 years on two AA batteries, according to Logitech. I’ve got Eneloops in it that I’ve been using for around 10 years now, and I’ve had to charge them maybe 4 times in total?
